Video Boards: Gymnasium and Pool The Orillia Recreation Centre is equipped with leading-edge video score boards in both the gymnasium and aquatic centre. Both screens offer unique opportunities to enhance the programs, events and rentals the centre can accommodate. Gymnasium Video Score Board: A Legacy Brought to Life The gymnasium video score board is a direct result of the Orillia 2018 Ontario Winter Games $100,000 legacy fund. The design, which was conceived by City recreation staff, is completely unique to the Orillia Recreation Centre to meet the needs of the facility. The full size video score board, which measures 5.76 metres by 3.6 metres, can split into two screens to accommodate the two separate FIBA-size gyms when the divider wall is in use. This will allow one large screen for scoring and video capabilities when the divider wall is open and two separate score boards with individual scoring capabilities when the divider wall is closed. - JASON MCNEILL, OES SCOREBOARDS
There was genuine excitement for this project; the OES engineering team was thrilled to have the opportunity to push the boundaries of a typical gymnasium video display. Score Board

The aquatic centre video scoreboard is a joint venture between the City of Orillia and the Orillia Channel Cats competitive swimming club. The Channel Cats have been working closely with the City for approximately five years on the design of the new aquatic centre. The Channel Cats secured the grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for the electronic timing equipment and video display scoreboard for the new recreation centre. In 2018, a $150,000 Ontario Trillium Foundation grant was secured. As the total cost of the electronic timing equipment and video scoreboard is $225,000, the Channel CATS are contributing an additional $75,000 towards the cost of this equipment.
The video scoreboard is an enormous 3 metre high by 5 metre wide screen that can display almost anything. For swim competitions, the scoreboard is able to display the name and time of the swimmer in each lane, not just the lane number and time. This capability enables the Channel Cats to host high-quality swim competitions and supports ongoing training activities. The scoreboard also enables the scoring of water polo, diving, and artistic swimming. “It’s going to be a great facility and we can’t wait for it to open,” said Michael Gordon, Treasurer for the Orillia Channel Cats.
Chris Milne, Mechanical Engineer Technologist with OES Scoreboards, tests the gymnasium digital scoreboard. The board which measures 5.76 metres by 3.6 metres can divide in two which allows scoring of separate sporting events in the two FIBA size gyms at the same time.
