Al visitar este sitio uno se encuentra con adorables y muy estudiados niños que sirven de guías y cuentan las historias del lugar. Civilizaciones indígenas antiguas que habitaron la región de El Valle dejaron varios legados como lo es La Piedra Pintada. Se trata de una piedra gigante tallada y pintada; las ilustraciones que muestra son mapas de la región. En la ilustración se pueden ubicar el Cerro Campana, Cerro de La India Dormida, Cerro Gaital y otros símbolos y lugares significativos para la etnia en aquella época. La gran piedra está partida por la mitad, y cuenta la leyenda que fue por la acción de un rayo que cayó sobre ella. Hay muchas otras piedras en los senderos que muestran este tipo de ilustraciones, sin embargo, esta es la más famosa por su gran tamaño.
If you stop at this site you will be met by adorable and vey knowledgeable children who work as guides and tell the stories of this interesting area. Ancient indigenous civilizations left their legacies recorded in places such as the Piedra Pintada. They carved and painted a map of the region on this enormous rock. You can make out Cerro Campana, Cerro de la India Dormida, Cerro Gaital, and other pertinent places and significant symbols of the ancients. Legend has it that a lightening strike left the great rock split in half. There are many rocks along the trails that have similar illustrations, but because of its size, this is the most famous.

At its colorful public market you can find anything and everything from plants, fresh flowers, vegetables, used clothing, jewelry and folk art, as well as the authentic “Panama hats”, baskets, and delicately woven birds and animals. Soapstone and tagua (vegetable ivory) are artistically carved into every imaginable figure from nature. Hand hewn “bateas,” wooden trays, are painted with tropical woodland scenes including birds and butterflies, flora and fauna. Their creativity is infinite, and they make art of all that surrounds them.
