Nine volunteers from Eric Wright Facilities Management recently came together at Spencer House, part of Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, to take part in a social value day transforming an outdoor courtyard into a dedicated remembrance space
Volunteers cleared weeds and debris before creating a gravelled seating area and refurbishing memorial benches Supporting our commitment to sustainability and the circular economy, the block paving stones used in the courtyard were donated and repurposed from the Queensway Tunnel monument project which was delivered by Eric Wright Civil Engineering Ryan Pearce, managing director of Eric Wright Facilities Management, commented:
“This project is a great example of how our teams can come together with our supply chain and wider Eric Wright Group to deliver real social value. I’m really proud of our team members for the effort and care they put into making this a reality”.
The completed Remembrance Courtyard will now provide a peaceful and accessible space for reflection, while highlighting the positive outcomes that can be achieved through collaboration, sustainability and strong client partnerships
A sincere thank you to everyone who participated in our recent Employee Engagement & Culture Survey. Your feedback is invaluable and it helps us shape a workplace where people feel proud, supported and inspired every day.
We’re pleased to share that we achieved a 67% overall response rate, with some teams reaching 80% and more
While we didn’t quite hit our ambitious 90% target overall, the results speak volumes about the strength of our culture:
97% of you said you're proud to work at Eric Wright Group
94% would recommend working here to friends and family
96% believe in our vision, mission and values
99% feel motivated to do a good job each day
£2,680 donated to your nominated charities
These are truly outstanding results and a testament to the shared purpose and values that unite us across the organisation and while we didn’t reach the ambitious target of 90%, we have agreed to donate 67% of the incentive amount
Of course nothing is perfect, alongside the positives, you’ve told us there are areas where we can do better. These include:
Communication Gaps: As an example, we need to progress the roll out of the revised values across our business, so they are more accessible and better understood This would be supported by consistent and visible messaging
Career Development: Improvements could be made in the conversations we have supporting people’s development, feedback on performance, training opportunities and career pathways
Regional Disconnects: We need to recognise that our business has grown significantly in recent times and we need to work harder to ensure our sites and remote locations feel included and connected to our company culture, receiving company news and our Charitable initiatives
Business
We’re grateful for your honesty and will be using this feedback to guide our next steps
We also asked for your feedback on benefits We asked which benefits you valued most and which ones you felt could be improved or reconsidered Your responses gave us a clear picture of what matters most to you
71% of respondents cited holidays as the most valued benefit, followed closely by hybrid working and company sick pay.
On the other end of the scale, the least valued benefits were, cycle to work scheme (56%) closely followed by our onsite gym, which isn’t surprising given the growing number of colleagues now working at various locations across the country.
This really helps us better understand how to tailor our offerings to suit a more flexible and distributed workforce in the future
You also shared ideas for new benefits you'd like to see introduced. There were lots of great ideas which we will work our way through.
The most common suggestions were themed around time off, particularly buying/selling holidays, birthdays off, mental health days or improving our current holiday service day accruals. Another popular theme focused on health and wellbeing, suggesting enhanced company sick pay (some areas don’t get it), access to discounted gym membership for all locations, private medical cover and broader wellness support.
While we can’t make any promises today, we are listening, and we’re committed to exploring how we can evolve our benefits offer to better support you all… watch this space!
So, what’s next?
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be diving deeper into the survey results to identify areas for improvement and explore how we can take meaningful action together. Once this analysis is complete, and mirrored at the divisional level, we’ll share the findings with leadership teams who will work with you and communicate outcomes and actions We’ll also give further updates in the next business update
This survey has given us vital insights that will help guide the future of Eric Wright Group. Your voice matters and we’re deeply grateful for your time, your honesty and your continued commitment.
Thank you, once again, for your contributions and helping us build a better place to work, for everyone.

Newartificial intelligencepolicy released
We have launched our new Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy, designed to guide responsible and secure use of AI across our organisation
As AI tools become more integrated into our workflows, it’s vital we uphold the highest standards Our policy is built on three golden rules:
1) Data Protection First – Always safeguard personal and sensitive data.
2) Verify AI Outputs – Review and validate AI-generated content before use.
3) Use Approved Systems Only – Stick to authorised platforms to ensure compliance and security.
Let’s embrace AI responsibly and confidently.
Read the full policy here including the currently approved systems.
The IT team is renewing its Cyber Essentials certification and this year, we’re going further by pursuing Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation.
This enhanced standard involves a rigorous external audit of our infrastructure to validate our cyber posture and ensure we’re effectively mitigating the risks of cyber attack.
Achieving this level of assurance strengthens our organisation’s resilience and supports our divisions as they tender for new projects. It’s especially vital for government and defence contracts, where demonstrating robust protection is critical. SimpleAutumnDrivingTips
Throughout autumn, the changing weather, reduced daylight and hidden hazards require extra caution. Whether you’re commuting to work, heading out for a weekend trip or simply running errands, understanding the unique conditions of autumn driving can help keep you, and others safe. Be aware of the risks that can increase driving hazards.
Wet leaves can be dangerous and slippery - Fallen leaves that collect on roadways may appear harmless, but when wet, they become slick and can drastically reduce traction. They may also hide potholes, road markings or other hazards. The safest approach is to slow down and avoid sudden braking when driving over leaves.
Early morning frost and black ice - As nights get cooler, frost can form on windshields and shaded road surfaces. Bridges and overpasses freeze first, often creating black ice patches invisible to the eye. Drive carefully in early mornings and evenings, especially when the temperature dips close to freezing. Ice under trees and bridges takes the longest to melt, often taking much longer than in open areas.
Unpredictable weather - Autumn is a transitional season. One day may be warm and sunny, the next cold and rainy. Wet roads demand longer stopping distances, so increase your following distance to allow time to react.
Shorter days mean more night driving - With the arrival of sunset earlier, many drivers find themselves on the road in darkness more frequently. Ensure all vehicle lights, headlights, brake lights and turn signals are functioning properly.
Sun glare at low angles - The autumn sun sits lower in the sky causing intense glare during morning and evening commutes. A clean windshield and a good pair of polarised sunglasses can reduce the risk of temporary blindness caused by glare.
Foggy conditions - Autumn mornings often bring mist or fog, especially over open fields or near rivers/ streams. Always use low beam headlights (not high beams, which reflect off the fog and worsen visibility) and slow down to maintain control. Be aware, it's much harder to judge speed and distance.
Vehicle Preparation - Autumn is the perfect time to prepare your car for the colder months ahead
Tyres - Check tread depth and ensure correct tyre pressure Cold weather can lower tyre pressure, affecting grip and fuel economy
Windshield wipers - Replace worn blades - autumn storms demand maximum visibility Use washer fluid rated for colder temperatures
Heating, A/C and defrost systems - Test them early so you’re not caught off guard by the first frosty morning.
Battery health - Colder weather can strain weak batteries. A quick test now can save you from being stranded later.
Wildlife Hazards - Autumn is peak season for wildlife activity, particularly deer Their movement increases during mating season and they’re more likely to cross roads at dawn and dusk Stay alert in rural or wooded areas, watch for deer crossing signs and use high beams when safe to spot animals ahead. If a collision is unavoidable, it’s generally safer to brake firmly and stay in your lane than to swerve, which could cause a more serious collision.
