Page 1

e l c o m e

WJuly marks the end of another half year of continued success and achievement All our businesses are making excellent progress towards their business plan objectives for 2025 and order books for 2026 are already starting to take shape and grow in strength There is plenty for us to feel proud of and the business continues to show its strength in often challenging times

Since the last update, our Construction team have continued to progress some significant projects across our region In particular, the topping out on our project at Seashell Trust marks a significant milestone on the road towards delivering some state of the art facilities which will support them in the amazing work they do improving the lives of people with complex learning difficulties.

Elsewhere in the Group, Civil Engineering moved closer to the completion of a project to bring back a historic monument at the entrance of Liverpool’s Queensway Tunnel. We are very pleased to have been able to play a part in the long awaited return of this significant part of Liverpool’s heritage.

The period also saw the appointment of Gavin Hulme as the new MD of our Civils business. Gavin brings over 30 years experience to the role (25 of these being with Eric Wright!) and he takes the reins at a time when the future prospects for his business have never looked stronger. I’m sure you will join me in wishing him every success in this new role. At the same time, I would like to share my appreciation and thanks to Diane Bourne for her dedication and support over the years.

Across in Maple Grove, our team were delighted to see its project at Hattersley start on site. There have been numerous challenges along the way but the teams determination over quite some time will now result in a 57,000 sq ft multi use scheme with an Aldi food store at its centre

Turning to our Water division, our team has built up some excellent reputations with key clients across multiple regions such as UU and Welsh Water and as a consequence is extremely well placed to play a significant part in the improvement of both dirty and clean water infrastructure Our updates will continue to spotlight key projects being delivered by the teams and our work at Huntington which is a great example of this, is detailed further in this update

Alongside all the great work we do, we must remember that none of this could be possible without the dedication and commitment of all the talented people that work across the Group. Later on in the update you will see where the Group has continued to receive awards for many types of achievements. Within these, the individual successes are something special that we can all be very proud of. A notable one this month is the Kings Award for Voluntary Service received by Catherine Ashcroft. Catherine plays a pivotal part in the operation of our Learning Foundation and we are delighted to see her passion and commitment for young people receiving some very well deserved recognition.

Lastly, and certainly not least, the Group has also announced the successful nominations for the 2025 charities of the year. These were selected by people from across all our businesses which are: Derian House Children’s Hospice, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Lancashire Teaching Hospital Charity (Baby Beat Appeal), Scotty’s Little Soldiers, St Catherine’s Hospice (Lancashire) Ltd, Muscular Dystrophy UK, British Heart Foundation and Bone Cancer Research Trust (Fitzy’s Fund). We look forward to better understanding the great work they all do and supporting them in any way we can over the coming 12 months.

Thank you

CatherineAshcroftreceivestheKing’s AwardforVoluntaryService

I’ve been involved in Scouting for my whole life. Having spent almost 30 years as an adult volunteer, supporting young people and creating opportunities to enable them to shine.

Someone outside of our scouting organisation nominated my team for the work we do in our community Receiving The King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) s special because everything we work towards in Scouting is about teamwork and eadership so to be recognised as one of the best groups in the UK is the best nyone could dream of

he King’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to local olunteer groups across the UK It is the MBE for volunteer groups and is awarded or life KAVS are only awarded to the very best of nominations each year - this is a uge achievement for our group and for me personally

t is awarded to groups of volunteers whose level of initiative and impact are truly xceptional Our group was assessed and highly commended on the following riteria:

Volunteer-led: The volunteers are in the driving seat, setting the direction for the group’s work and spotting opportunities to develop it further each year. Exceptional compared with comparable groups: This group is likely to be one of the best of its kind in the country. Making a considerable difference locally: The initiative of this group and the efforts of its volunteers have changed the situation dramatically for its beneficiaries.

Well-run: There are high standards of governance, financial management and safeguarding. Outstanding reputation locally: The group has a high standing in the community and has an excellent reputation with beneficiaries, service providers and others.

Successful groups are presented with a crystal award and a certificate bearing His Majesty’s signature, as well as an invitation to attend the Kings Garden Party in May, and whilst there we were selected for a meet and greet with the Royal Party. We were delighted to meet HRH Catherine, Princess of Wales, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh and Princess Eugene.

As well as the exciting and rewarding impact that Scouting has for our young people aged 4-18, Scouting is great for adults too. There are endless ways which you could help to really make a difference; an hour of your time as a finance expert, could help to train a group of adult volunteers who will continue to have a positive impact for young people in their community. If you can drive a minibus or maintain one, if you could provide a van to help transport gear to and from camp; could you help to manage our group social media or teach our young people to create a newsletter

You could help us to maintain our community garden or allotment and teach the Squirrels Scouts to plant seeds Volunteering doesn’t have to be 2 hours every week of fixed commitment, but by working together using the skills of everyone, we can really help to create the best opportunities for all of our young people and the adults have a great time too If you think you can help, let me know and I’ll link you up with your local group and maybe we can change the world one step at a time
