The Mortgage Broker Advantage The lack of transparency in banking creates an illusion that there are more advantages to the consumer by applying to a commercial bank or mortgage bank to obtain a home loan. This is false.

In fact, borrowers have far more advantages working with a mortgage broker because mortgage brokers have access to unlimited lenders, programs and interest rates. They have many more programs than any one bank or even a group of banks combined could ever have.

Banks are also very selective on who they will lend to. The bigger they become the less risk they need to take to be profitable.

Banks add credit overlays to further limit their risk and they are eliminating program that serve low to moderate borrowers, credit impaired borrowers, or self employed borrowers who need alternative ways to document their income.

These discriminatory practices and strategies are all done with goal of reducing or illuminating risk which is understandable given the recent Great Financial Crises between 2007 and 2009.
