Weathering Supply Chain Storms Amid Global Uncertainty

SESSION

Geopolitical tensions, climate change, and rising protectionism threaten free trade and supply chain security. The Ukraine war has increased energy prices and costs for British consumers and businesses. Cooperation with allies, especially the EU, is crucial for supply chain resilience. The OBR forecast predicts slower growth in UK export markets due to weaker eurozone and US import growth. Internal resilience weaknesses, illustrated by the impact of Heathrow’s closure, also threaten supply chain security. Championing free, fair international trade is essential in this environment. The UK plays a role in rebuilding trade relationships, including a potential deal with the US. The upcoming TCA review will also set the direction of the EU-UK trading partnership. Strategic government-industry initiatives can help UK businesses build resilient supply chains and diversify trade routes and this session will explore how those engaging in international trade can best be supported.

Expanding Your Business Internationally: Challenges and Opportunities

SESSION

Shabir Djakiodine

Chartered Accountant & Partner, Euro Accounting

Expanding internationally offers businesses access to new markets, diversified revenue, and global visibility. However, it also presents challenges such as legal complexity, cultural adaptation, talent acquisition, and regulatory compliance. This session explores the core opportunities and risks of global expansion, providing strategic insights for companies ready to grow beyond borders. Using France as a study case, we’ll examine the steps involved in establishing a business abroad--from company formation and employment regulations to taxation and cultural integration. France, as one of Europe’s largest economies, offers a skilled workforce, strong infrastructure, and government-backed incentives for foreign investors. Yet success requires understanding local expectations, navigating bureaucracy, and building trust with partners. Through this session, attendees will gain a practical roadmap to internationalisation, supported by real-world lessons from the French market. Whether you’re taking your first global step or refining your expansion strategy, this session will equip you to scale with confidence.

Understanding Diplomatic Negotiations

“Recent discussions over Ukraine have bought into sharp focus the differences between diplomatic negotiation and the transactional deal-based approach favoured by President Trump. Although von Clausewitz may have been right to suggest that ‘war is a continuation of politics by other means”, that does not mean those most willing to coerce using military and economic power will necessarily win the day. Strength and weakness in negotiation are relative terms and can change as a negotiation proceeds. Negotiators’ personal skills can be highly relevant in diplomatic activity.”
