THE SERIES * Friday will be the 168th meeting between The College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon. * It is the longest continuous rivalry for both schools at 67 years in a row. * It is also the longest continuous rivalry in the Cascade Conference. Southern Oregon and EOU have played 66 years in a row, and Oregon Tech and SOU have met 63 years in a row. * The Yotes have a 103-64 all-time advantage over EOU. * The rivalry dates back to 1934 between the Mountaineers and C of I. * Eastern Oregon has won eight of the last 10. ABOUT THE YOTES The College of Idaho comes into the game with a 9-17 overall record and a 4-11 conference mark. The Yotes were picked third in the Cascade Collegiate Conference preseason poll, but have struggled so far this season. C of I had lost seven of its last eight games after its lost at EOU last month, but the Yotes are 3-3 in their six. College of Idaho’s defense has been its strong point this season. The Yotes are sixth in NAIA Div. 2 in field goal percentage defense (.403). C of I gives up an average of 65.6 points per outing. Their 207 total steals is 33rd in the nation, behind Matt Ballenger’s 2.3 steals per game, which is eighth in the country. The Yotes defense is giving up an average of 63.6 points per game, seventh in the country. Rodney Delgardo is averaging 9.62 points per outing. BATTLE FOR THE I-84 CUP The Mountaineers and The College of Idaho meet for the 168th time Friday. It will be the 67th straight year the programs meet. The matchup is the longest running in the Cascade Conference. The I-84 Cup trophy is given to the winner of the basketball series with EOU and The College of Idaho. The Mountaineers currently hold possession of the trophy. C of I must sweep the men’s and women’s games Friday to take the Cup. A split or sweep by Eastern keeps the Cup in the Mountaineers possession. THE LAST TIME OUT The Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team grabbed an 84-72 road win at Northwest Christian University Saturday. The Mountaineers remain in the hunt for a home postseason game with the victory. The win also clinched a spot in the conference tournament for EOU. Trent Roos scored 21 points to lead Eastern. The junior made six of his eight three-pointers. Travares Peterson added 16 points and Jamar Johnson had 12 points. Kyllian Wood grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and Cody Thurmond threw eight assists. Eastern Oregon was 53 percent from the field in the victory. The Mountaineers made 11 of their 19 three-point attempts, and 17-of-27 from the free-throw line. EOU outrebounded the Beacons, 36-30. Eastern threw 23 assists, compared to NCU’s 13. The Mountaineers committed 23 turnovers, while Northwest Christian had 16. The Beacons were 46 percent from the field, 7-of-22 from three-point range, and 7-for-14 from the free-throw line. FREE ADMISSION WITH CAN DONATION The Eastern Oregon University Sports Information and Marketing Department have announced a chance for free admission to the rest of the regular season basketball games in Quinn Coliseum. Mountaineer fans can attend the final four EOU regular season doubleheaders by bringing at least two non-perishable food items before halftime of the women’s games. In return for the donation, fans will receive a complimentary general admission ticket. The Mountaineers will be a part of the seventh annual EOU Food Drive from Jan. 31 to Feb. 28. Eastern Oregon Athletics is trying to reach its goal of 2,000 pounds of goods to donate to the Union County Food Bank.

WEEK FIFTEEN: COLLEGE OF IDAHO LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARIES Eastern Oregon is one of four teams to have made it to the past four second rounds at the NAIA Div. 2 National Tournament. Two programs in those four, Oregon Tech and EOU, are from the Cascade Collegiate Conference. There are only 10 teams that have made the national tournament in each of the past four seasons, including Eastern Oregon. BASKETBALL HAS WEEKLY SHOW The Eastern Oregon University basketball programs will have their own radio talk show on Monday’s 12-1 p.m. on KUBQ 98.7 FM. Mountaineer fans can tune into 98.7 FM and listen to EOU basketball analysis, game recaps, game previews, and interviews with coaches and players. The whole hour is devoted to Eastern Oregon women’s and men’s basketball.
