Postion Overview
Venice Community Housing (VCH), a communitybased, nonprofit organization, supports and builds equitable and inclusive communities by providing affordable housing with supportive services, education, employment programs, and public policy advocacy With housing development as its core service, VCH believes that we must challenge the root causes of housing injustice and homelessness, and actively confront all forms of racism, in order to ensure equitable communities with access to healthy, safe, and affordable homes for all Just as it is important for low-income and unhoused people to have access to stable housing, it is also important that our Westside communities be inclusive and restore access for communities of color that have been forcibly removed We unite our community with passion and commitment to equity
Currently, VCH is engaged in a variety of housing and community development programs, owning and managing 252 units of affordable and supportive housing, and an additional 28 units of short-term housing, with a $5 6m annual operating budget As part of a nationwide focus on the crisis of homelessness and housing affordability, VCH is in a growth phase with an additional 500 units in the pre development/construction stages Our vision is that our compassionate approach to these solutions will serve as a model to other communities across the country
IDEAL CANDIDATE
VCH seeks an experienced nonprofit fundraising professional who is gifted at communications, donor cultivation, and relationship building With a passion for and connection to the VCH mission, the incoming director is an exceptional storyteller, inspiring and motivating constituents from all segments of the community This person can tactfully tailor messages to audiences public and private, utilizing multiple messaging platforms, including the transformation of VCH staff into advocates They are familiar with the communities where projects are based, have experience working with local leaders and neighborhood councils, and understand how to skillfully interact with those opposed to VCH's housing developments to bring our community together
The ideal candidate is creative in strategy, inclusive in leadership, and innovative in execution They are diligent in their management of government contracts and possess a strong track record in foundation relations and grant procurement, successfully securing five-figure major gifts and grants This individual can design thoughtful, informed, and effective digital campaigns, utilizing their strong project management skills to turn big-picture ideas into achievable, actionable goals for the organization, staff, and volunteers

Position Overview
The Director of Development and Communications (DODC) works to build and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors, government funders, key partners and collaborators, and the general public Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the DODC develops and implements comprehensive short-term and long-term fundraising plans, including solicitations and management of government and foundation grants, annual appeals, corporate donations, and special events
The Director will lead the organization’s dynamic fundraising vehicles and find ways to innovate, expand, and connect with new donors With the support of a development team, including an Associate Director of Development, Community and Donor Engagement Manager, Special Events Coordinator, and our vital volunteers, this position is responsible for government and private grant solicitation and management, with an annual private revenue goal of $1 5 million, additional government grant solicitation and management, and plays a critical role in building community support for VCH’s housing, programs, and community vision
As an effective spokesperson for the organization, the DODC is strategic in its ability to interweave stories, news, and advocacy pillars into all forms of communication, creating and sharing materials that reflect the VCH mission and principles Working closely with the Board of Directors on fund development projects, the director will ensure mission and brand alignment on all activities, empowering others to serve as spokespeople, too

VCH currently owns, manages and operates 252 units of affordable and supportive housing and an additional 28 units of short-term housing for families and transition aged youth experiencing homelessness Seventy-five percent (75%) of our housing is affordable to households with incomes less than 50% of the median income Our housing includes high-quality services for individuals having experienced chronic homelessness
