AMF provides educational resources to raise awareness about migraine as a disabling brain disease. AMF offers free, clinically-verified information to patients, promotes early diagnosis and treatment, and educates the public and healthcare professionals to reduce stigma and improve care for those affected by migraine.
The Foundation drives impactful research to advance migraine treatment. By funding and supporting studies, AMF aims to improve understanding of migraine, develop better treatments and more accurate diagnoses.
AMF trains patients, professionals, and caregivers to advocate for migraine awareness at the grassroots level. Through education and support, AMF empowers individuals to reduce stigma, and improve care, fostering a community dedicated to raising awareness about the impact of migraine.
The organization fosters community by hosting the largest online support group for those impacted by migraine, moderated by dedicated volunteers. This platform provides a safe space for sharing experiences, offering support, and building connections, ensuring that individuals never feel alone in their journey.
The American Migraine Foundation is seeking an experienced Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead and manage the organization, fulfilling its mission as directed by the Board of Directors. Reporting to the Chair and Executive Committee of the Board, the CEO will take the organization to the next level of growth and foster a community of patients, patient advocates, and medical professionals, promoting education, awareness, and support for those impacted by migraine and other disabling headache disorders. The ideal candidate will have proven fundraising success, excellent communication and relational skills, and strong leadership abilities. They will develop and manage donor relationships, oversee fundraising campaigns, and manage the foundation's finances. Essential skills include donor management, CRM systems, grant writing, public speaking, and social media. This role is a remote position, but the CEO will attend key meetings and events in person, including the American Headache Society Annual Conferences in June and November.

Conduct a listening tour with Board of Directors, Editorial Board, and other stakeholders
Develop a strategic plan and financial strategy for the organization
Foster relationships with new and existing donors and community members

Collaborate with the Board to create and implement a strategic plan that prioritizes opportunities for outreach and growth, while maintaining effective operations and finances and supporting the founding principles of the organization.
Lead innovative, community-building initiatives to increase the visibility of the American Migraine Foundation, affirming its position as the leading global authority and premier hub for education, information, and community.
Lead, manage and develop employees, volunteers, and organizational culture.
Assist the Board to identify, recruit, and develop engaged and active board members to promote the organization’s vision and strategy. Develop, inform, and support the board and the Board Committees to effectively conduct governance functions, including orientation. Prepare board reports and package for Executive Committee meetings, Board meetings, and partnership meetings; conduct orientations for new Board members.
Develop, implement, monitor, and assess fundraising practices and campaigns.
Collaborate with the Chair and Fundraising Committee to prospect and cultivate major gifts, mid-level giving, and foundation grants. Foster beneficial relationships with new and existing donors, funders, supporters, collaborators, allies, vendors, and other stakeholders.
With the support of the treasurer and accounting firm, oversee all financial matters, including maintaining budgets, approving and reviewing expenditures, and developing financial plans and procedures.
In collaboration with the Board, develop an annual organizational budget, as well as longer-term organizational development goals and costs to be funded and implemented.
Engage potential and current sponsors to support strategic programs and projects.
Participate in ongoing discussions and meetings to develop and secure sponsorship.
Work with Executive Committee to ensure support is received for strategic goals of AMF.
Ensure effective external communications about the organization and its mission, priorities, importance, programs, and activities, serving as a spokesperson for AMF with the media and at public events.
Develop and implement outreach strategies that expand the AMF community, building relationships with key organizations and stakeholders.
Create and implement a strategic social media plan for AMF and manage the organization’s web presence.
Keep informed, and update leadership, of significant developments and changes in the internal and external environment.
Partner with the Chair and Executive Committee to help ensure the Board’s directives, policies and resolutions are carried out. Ensure legal compliance (including all required filings) and sound risk management practices.
Plan and implement the organization’s annual calendar of activities including board, committees, fundraising initiatives, special events, and all official activities.
Identify and onboard vendors as needed, under the directives of the Executive Committee and / or Board.
Oversee and assess the organization’s programs and impact, including research initiatives.
A minimum of 5 years of senior or executive level experience in nonprofit organizational leadership.
Experience in building community and fostering relationships in a virtual setting.
Skilled in planning, facilitating, and leading professional events.
Proven success in fundraising with understanding of cultivating and making asks to mid-level donors, major donors, foundations, and corporations. Experience with pharmaceutical corporate donors is an advantage.
Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, public speaking, and emotional intelligence. A personal connection to individuals experiencing migraine or other chronic illness is a plus.
Ability to self-direct without the need for day-to-day supervision.
Skilled in managing budgets and organizational finances.
Experience with guiding an organization through growth is desired.
Experience with managing a board, ensuring compliant board governance, and volunteer engagement.
The salary range for the AMF CEO role is $165,000 - $185,000. Relocation is not required and the CEO may work remotely from anywhere in the United States. Benefits include but are not limited to medical insurance, 20 days of paid vacation, and 10 paid holidays.
