The Los Angeles Conservancy was established in 1978 out of a community-based effort to prevent demolition of the Los Angeles Central Library Today, that journey has evolved as the organization strives to make preservation part of public policy, urban planning, and public consciousness The organization boasts a membership of 7,000 households, the largest membership of any local preservation organization in the U S , reflecting an unprecedented level of support for L A 's historic resources

The Los Angeles Conservancy seeks to hire a President & Chief Executive Officer to succeed Linda Dishman, President and CEO for over 31 years This new leader will honor the magnitude of previous accomplishments and continue to build upon the organization's legacy with a deep passion for preservation and a determination for equity for all Angelinos
The President & CEO reports directly to the Board of Directors, leads a staff of 16 individuals as well as hundreds of volunteers, and manages an annual budget of approximately $3 million President & CEO responsibilities include: Working with the Board of Directors to determine vision and overall strategy for the organization; leading and developing staff; establishing mutually beneficial community partnerships; cultivating individual and institutional donors; overseeing financial management and budgeting; ensuring the overall quality of programs and events; promoting an organizational culture of diversity, equity and inclusion, and serving as the spokesperson for the organization The President & CEO position also works on historic preservation laws, incentives, and programs and has a strong relationship with City Hall
The Los Angeles Conservancy is in search of a President & CEO who is an outstanding communicator and builder, leveraging the Conservancy's shared history to unite its staff, supporters, and constituency around its dynamic programs, preservation, and advocacy work This leader thrives on interpersonal connection and is at their best when leveraging both fundraising and advocacy partnerships that inspire staff and catalyze the Los Angeles community
The ideal candidate is gifted at leadership and diplomacy, demonstrated through their strong expertise in fundraising and governance Experientially, they will have a unifying demeanor that can effortlessly bring together the Board, staff, and external communities through their strong advocacy, passion, and understanding of the historic preservation landscape An impassioned thought leader and creative problem solver, the ideal professional will skillfully engage with diverse communities from grassroots groups to council chambers and corporate boardrooms This experienced professional is well-rounded, blending nonprofit expertise in budgeting, financial management, and communications, with their strength in strategy and organizational management, supporting and unifying staff under a shared mission The ideal candidate also has experience leading diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and is as committed to equity within the organization as they are to historic preservation
Since 1980, the Los Angeles Conservancy's walking tours and other special events have brought countless Los Angeles residents and visitors closer to the beautiful buildings and unique spaces that make Los Angeles County so special The organization is continuously working on a vast range of preservation issues throughout Los Angeles County, both proactively and in response to specific threats to historic cultural and architectural resources Through advocacy efforts, the organization responds to specific threats, ensures stronger preservation policies and incentives, and most importantly empowers people to take action
