ENTHUSIAST REPORT - PUBLISHERS NOTE

PRINCIPLES FOR BEING A REAL AUTHENTIC MAN

In a world obsessed with image, influence, and instant gratification, the essence of what it means to be a real, authentic man is slowly fading, but not lost. At Enthusiast Report Magazine, where luxury intersects with substance, and lifestyle is defined by intentional living, we believe it's time to revisit the values that never go out of style.

True luxury is more than the finest cigars, rarest spirits, or five-star travel, it’s knowing who you are and standing firm in your purpose. It's about strength without ego, power without arrogance, and success without compromise. The ten principles that follow are not trends—they are timeless truths. They are the foundation of a life well-lived, the architecture of character, and the unseen fabric that elevates a man beyond wealth, fame, or status.

This guide is not about perfection. It’s about pursuit, the pursuit of excellence, integrity, and legacy. Whether you're leading a company, raising a family, or building your empire, let these principles be your compass.

Because in the end, the most refined expression of masculinity is not just in what you wear or drive… but in how you live.

Welcome to the standard.

A MAN MUST PROVIDE

He gives gracefully and selflessly—but always with wisdom and discernment.

A MAN MUST KEEP HIS WORD

Your word is your bond. Let it be stronger than any contract.

A MAN MUST PROTECT

Whether it’s his family, friends, man or woman, his business, his home—his duty is to shield and defend.

A MAN MUST LEAD WITH HONOR

It is not his role to do what is popular, but to do what is right—always in service of the greater good.

A MAN MUST SHOW RESPECT TO ALL YOU MUST KNOW WHEN TO LEAD AND WHEN TO FOLLOW

He takes the higher road, never compromising his character to match the weakness of others.

A MAN NEVER TAKES ADVANTAGE OF THOSE WEAKER THAN HIMSELF

True strength is measured by restraint, not domination.

A MAN DOES NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT HIS RESPONSIBILITIES

He bears them with quiet resolve—because duty is not a burden, it is a privilege.

A MAN DOES NOT WASTE TIME

He earns his rest. He does not oversleep or indulge idleness without merit.

A MAN REMAINS HUMBLE

He does not seek validation or recognition. His humility is a quiet strength, allowing his actions and achievements to speak louder than praise. He knows his worth—and never needs applause to prove it.

A MAN’S PURPOSE IS BUILT ON TRUTH AND LOGIC, NOT EMOTION

His feelings may inform him—but they do not command him. His emotions are not valid above purpose.

CULLINAN THE ASCENDANT

INSIDE THE 2025 ROLLS-ROYCE CULLINAN SERIES II: ULTRA-LUXURY, REIMAGINED BY

In a segment where excellence is expected and extravagance is the baseline, the 2025 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II dares to elevate the standard once more. This isn’t just a refinement — it’s a renaissance. The world’s most prestigious SUV returns with a heightened sense of occasion, blending regal design with future-facing innovation in ways only RollsRoyce can achieve.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT REDESIGN. THIS IS ABOUT REDEFINITION.
— Anders Warming, Design Director, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars "

AN ILLUMINATED LEGACY

Since its debut, the Cullinan has defined what it means to travel in uncompromising luxury. The Series II builds upon that legacy with a bold yet sophisticated new visual identity. Most striking is the debut of the illuminated Pantheon grille, the first in Rolls-Royce history — a glowing beacon of prestige that radiates both day and night. Slimmer LED headlamps and redesigned daytime running lights sharpen the Cullinan’s gaze, while a refined front apron and vertical air intakes introduce a more athletic silhouette.

The Black Badge variant further enhances the design language, introducing high-gloss dark finishes, carbon fiber accents, and a more aggressive stance — engineered to appeal to an emerging generation of confident, performance-minded clientele.

CABIN OF INFINITE IMAGINATION

Step into the Cullinan Series II and discover a cocoon of serenity and craftsmanship. The new interior philosophy celebrates the art of personalization through an expanded palette of materials and textures. Most notably, Rolls-Royce introduces “Duality Twill,” a sustainable weave made from bamboo fibers — a modern statement that seamlessly merges luxury with environmental consciousness. With over 2.2 million precision stitches across a single dashboard, the cabin becomes a canvas for bespoke artistry.

From the now-iconic starlight headliner that mimics a clear night sky, to Serenity Lounge seating with massaging and reclining capabilities, the interior of the Series II is nothing short of a private retreat in motion.

LUXURY ISN’T ABOUT SHOWING OFF. IT’S ABOUT FEELING IN TOTAL CONTROL, WITHOUT EFFORT.

INTRODUCING COHIBA RIVIERA

TAKE IT ALL IN

The newest addition to our collection represents new territory for Cohiba. It’s the only box-pressed offering in our portfolio, as well as the only Cohiba to feature an exquisite Mexican San Andrés wrapper.

Bask in luxury with the all-new Cohiba Riviera.

SPIRIT MEETS SPIRIT

Where other luxury automakers use technology as spectacle, Rolls-Royce uses it to disappear into the background of a flawless experience. The all-new SPIRIT infotainment system delivers refined intelligence with intuitive simplicity. Borrowing inspiration from haute horology and contemporary architecture, the interface is beautifully restrained — featuring edge-to-edge glass panels, subtle animations, and haptic feedback.

Behind the scenes, SPIRIT adapts in real time to your preferences: AI-powered navigation, mood-based ambient lighting, and biometric seat adjustments make each drive feel uniquely yours. Rear-seat passengers are also treated to tablet-based controls, enabling individualized comfort, entertainment, and climate with ease.

UNMATCHED POISE ON THE ROAD

Powering this elevated experience is the marque’s revered 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine — a mechanical masterpiece that delivers effortless acceleration with near-silent composure. The ride remains whisper-smooth thanks to an air suspension system that reads the road ahead and adjusts on the fly, absorbing imperfections before they ever reach the cabin.

In the Black Badge version, engineers have subtly recalibrated throttle response, steering weight, and braking dynamics to offer a sharper, more involved driving experience — proving that poise and power can, in fact, coexist.

A FUTURE FRAMED IN HERITAGE

With the Cullinan Series II, Rolls-Royce delivers more than just an SUV. It offers a vision of modern luxury built upon a century of heritage. Every detail — from the subtle animation of the Spirit of Ecstasy at ignition, to the quiet closing of its coach doors — is a performance in restraint, intention, and elegance.

For those who believe true luxury is defined not by what’s added, but by what’s perfected, the 2025 Cullinan Series II is not just a choice — it’s a declaration.

Deep Blue Obsession

BRABUS X PANERAI REDEFINES LAND, SEA, AND TIME

WORDS BY LOGAN SMITH

When elegance meets adrenaline, you get the BRABUS Deep Blue Signature Series—a power-packed lifestyle trio crafted for those who command attention on land, sea, and wrist. This exclusive collaboration between BRABUS and Panerai goes beyond bespoke craftsmanship; it’s a lifestyle ensemble that fuses precision engineering, stealth aesthetics, and elite performance across every environment.

At the heart of the collection lies the BRABUS Shadow 900 Deep Blue, a high-performance luxury superboat developed in collaboration with Axopar. Sleek, muscular, and masterfully engineered, this 38-foot powerhouse is fitted with dual 450R Mercury Marine racing engines, delivering a combined 900 horsepower. With a top speed of over 60 knots, the Shadow 900 doesn’t just glide over water- it commands it. Designed for open-sea thrill-seekers who expect comfort without compromise, the boat features advanced tech, a luxurious wet bar, expansive sunbed, and a cabin outfitted in dark blue tones and carbon fiber accents that echo the BRABUS DNA. With pricing starting at around $485,000, the Shadow 900 Deep Blue is as exclusive as it is exhilarating.

From open water to autobahn, the Deep Blue Series is engineered to dominate every environment. "

For those who move between cities, coasts, and continents with ease, the Deep Blue collection is the ultimate emblem of precision-luxury lifestyle. "

Matching the marine beast on land is the BRABUS 900 Deep Blue G-Class, a reimagined Mercedes-AMG G63 transformed into a 900-horsepower luxury brute. Handcrafted in Germany and powered by a 4.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, it rockets from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds- unheard of for a vehicle of its stature. But speed isn’t the only statement. Widebody carbon styling, monoblock Z wheels, and deep blue marine-inspired upholstery elevate the G-Wagon into a rolling sculpture. With a limited production run and a price tag of approximately $500,000, it’s the ultimate land vessel for the discerning few.

Completing the trinity is the Panerai Submersible S BRABUS Blue Shadow Edition, a 47mm timepiece that reflects the same attention to detail and toughness found in its larger siblings. Limited to just 200 pieces worldwide, this skeletonized dive watch is forged from titanium using Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) and features a unidirectional Carbotech™ bezel. It’s powered by Panerai’s P.4001/S caliber, boasting a 3-day power reserve and GMT functionality. Deep blue Super-LumiNova® indices and a matching rubber strap give it a nautical flair, while the transparent dial showcases the movement in motion. Retailing at approximately $50,000, the Blue Shadow is more than a watch—it’s wearable engineering.

Limited production. Maximum presence. "

What makes the Deep Blue collection especially compelling is its cohesive design language. Each piece is finished in a curated shade of rich blue, paired with exposed carbon fiber, brushed metal, and matte textures. The consistency across all three mediums—automotive, marine, and horology—demonstrates BRABUS’ and Panerai’s shared vision: a unified expression of performance and exclusivity.

While each item can certainly stand alone as a masterpiece, their combined statement is unmatched. Picture this: pulling into Monaco’s harbor in the Shadow 900, stepping off in style with the G-Wagon awaiting, and checking your Blue Shadow for the perfect dinner reservation. It’s not just opulence—it’s orchestration.

This trio isn't about excess; it's about execution. It speaks to the individual who doesn't ask for attention, but draws it naturally. For those who move between cities, coasts, and continents with ease, the Deep Blue collection is the ultimate emblem of precision-luxury lifestyle.

Whether you’re navigating open waters, carving through alpine roads, or attending exclusive watch unveilings, BRABUS x Panerai's Deep Blue series ensures one thing: you're never out of your element.

MEN'S LUXURY LINEN WEAR FOR YOUR ISLAND VACATION

When the itinerary includes white sand beaches, rooftop cocktails, and five-star villas, your wardrobe needs to deliver effortless elegance and cooling comfort. Enter: linen—the king of warmweather dressing. Lightweight, breathable, and always stylish, luxury linen is the fabric of choice for the modern gentleman navigating sun-soaked escapes with sophistication. Whether you’re jetting off to St. Barths or sailing the Amalfi Coast, here’s how to master island style with the best in men’s luxury linen wear.

THE LINEN SHIRT: THE VACATION ESSENTIAL

The foundation of any upscale island ensemble is a premium linen button-down. Opt for a tailored fit that skims the torso without clinging, providing a silhouette that says "relaxed," not "wrinkled mess." Brands like Orlebar Brown, 100Hands, and Brunello Cucinelli offer exceptional options in hues ranging from classic white to earthy olives and pastel pinks.

Pair with tailored swim trunks during the day or unbuttoned over a tee for an effortless dinner look. Want to level up? Choose a camp-collar linen shirt with mother-of-pearl buttons—it’s retro, refined, and ideal for sipping Negronis on the terrace.

LINEN TROUSERS AND SHORTS: FROM POOLSIDE TO PENTHOUSE

Skip the denim and embrace linen trousers with drawstring waists or side-tab adjusters. They offer a cleaner silhouette and maximum airflow—perfect for humid climes. Loro Piana's summer-weight trousers in linen-cotton blends are luxuriously soft and tailored for relaxed elegance.

For daytime excursions, opt for knee-length linen shorts in neutral tones like sand, stone, or slate. Frescobol Carioca and Theory produce pairs with the perfect balance of structure and casual appeal. Finish the look with espadrilles or leather sandals for Riviera-ready vibes.

ACCESSORIES: THE FINISHING TOUCH

Luxury is in the details, and the right accessories elevate your linen game to the next level. A Panama hat from Borsalino offers sun protection with old-world elegance. Polarized shades from Persol or Oliver Peoples complete the island-casual aesthetic.

A linen-blend scarf is another underrated essential—perfect for breezy ferry rides or unexpected evening chills. And don’t forget a high-end weekender bag, preferably canvas or leather, from Want Les Essentiels or Valextra to carry all your island gear in style.

LINEN SUITS AND BLAZERS: FORMALWEAR, LIGHTENED UP

Who says you can’t wear a blazer by the beach? Linen blazers are the ideal solution for island weddings, yacht parties, or upscale dinners. Canali and Isaia create beautifully unstructured linen jackets that drape effortlessly and keep you cool without sacrificing style.

Pair a cream linen blazer with crisp trousers and a pocket square for a look that’s more Bond than beach bum. For those daring enough, a full linen suit in dusty rose or sky blue makes a bold statement that still feels breezy. Add suede loafers and a relaxed attitude.

COLOR PALETTE: CHANNEL NATURE’S NEUTRALS

This season, draw from the hues of the tropics: ivory, sage, sand, coral, and ocean blue. These tones not only complement sun-kissed skin but also pair well across multiple outfits, offering versatility in a carry-on wardrobe.

Linen wrinkles—embrace it. It’s part of the fabric’s charm, signaling nonchalance and refinement without trying too hard. The key is quality; well-made linen will wrinkle with grace, not collapse into a crumpled mess.

FINAL WORD: RELAXED SOPHISTICATION, REDEFINED

Island dressing is about balance. You want to feel like you belong—whether at a barefoot beach bar or an exclusive cliffside villa—without sacrificing style or comfort. With the right linen pieces, you’re not just vacationing, you’re making a statement.

So skip the synthetic blends and pack smart. Choose quality over quantity, structure over slouch, and natural over forced. Linen isn’t just for summer— it’s a lifestyle. One that says: I travel well, I dress well, and I know how to enjoy the good life.

Now go forth and breeze into your island escape in luxury linen made to move with the rhythm of the ocean.

BROTHERHOOD

HOW IAN SOMERHALDER AND PAUL WESLEY WENT FROM CULT TV ICONS TO CRAFT BOURBON POWERHOUSES

We’re not just the faces... This isn’t some label-slap. We live it. “ ”

IN A BOTTLE

When you sit across from Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, you immediately get it. This isn’t a vanity project—it’s a passion project. Brother’s Bond Bourbon, the breakout spirit brand from the duo best known as the Salvatore brothers on The Vampire Diaries, has gone from cult-favorite to category disruptor.

With Double Golds, 96+ ratings, and accolades pouring in from coast to coast, the brand has proven it’s not just riding on name recognition. From mash bills and bottle design to regenerative farming and custom corks flown in from Portugal, these guys are in the trenches.

“We’re not just the faces,” says Wesley. “This isn’t some label-slap. We live it.”

And that authenticity is exactly why the whiskey world is taking notice.

You’re literally sipping a bourbon that’s helping the planet.

— Paul Wesley ”

It started, like most good things, with a bond—one forged not just in fame, but in friendship, long nights on set, and conversations that wandered from scripts and storylines to dreams and distillation. Today, that bond has become something more: Brother’s Bond Bourbon, one of the most celebrated spirits to hit the American whiskey scene in recent years.

When I sat down with Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, the energy was easy. These aren’t actors simply promoting a product. They’re founders. Builders. Makers. They’re the guys obsessing over mash bills, label designs, cork sourcing, and carbon sequestration—yes, carbon sequestration. But let’s back up.

The brand is barely four years old, yet Brother’s Bond has already racked up accolades that would make heritage distillers raise an eyebrow: multiple Double Golds, 96+ ratings, a finalist for Best in Class in San Francisco. It’s no surprise to those of us who’ve followed the journey since day one. But to the average whiskey drinker, it might be a bit of a revelation.

"We had a jumping-off point from our careers in TV," Ian admits with a grin. "But now whiskey drinkers—real ones—know we’re serious. This is our passion."

That passion is on full display as they introduce their latest releases. First up: a regenerative grain bourbon. It's a term that might raise eyebrows among casual sippers, but for Paul and Ian, it’s a core part of their mission.

"Since day one, we knew we wanted to give back through regenerative agriculture," Paul explains. "This isn’t political—it’s science. Healthy soil, healthier plants, stronger farms."

“You’re literally sipping a bourbon that’s helping the planet.” — Paul Wesley

The result? A bourbon made from grains grown without pesticides or chemicals, in soil that captures more carbon than it emits. It’s a whiskey that, in their words, “does good for the world.” But even beyond the environmental impact, there’s the taste—cleaner, purer, more nuanced.

"You can actually taste the difference," Ian says, citing a conversation with spirits authority Fred Minnick. "There’s terroir. Seasonality. It's like wine in that way. We know the field our corn came from. We know who grew it. And we know what the season was like that year."

It’s that obsessive attention to detail that separates Brother’s Bond from the flood of celebrity spirits saturating the market. This isn’t a name-on-a-label play. These guys are in the trenches— literally down to the corks.

"We almost flew to Portugal with duffel bags to pick up 250,000 sustainable corks ourselves," Ian laughs. "We couldn’t get the exact ones we needed, and we weren’t going to compromise."

“We almost flew to Portugal with duffel bags to pick up corks.” — Ian Somerhalder

Paul shakes his head with a grin. "We still might. We’re that involved."

That kind of commitment shows up in every sip. Take their seven-year Bottled in Bond release— Paul’s personal favorite. Aged in oak for nearly a decade, it’s 100 proof, thick with oak character and layered complexity. It also earned a jaw-dropping 98 points in San Francisco and, yes, another Double Gold.

"Bottled in Bond is not just about whiskey," Ian says. "It’s about the bond—between us, and with the people who drink it."

“Bottled in Bond is not just about whiskey—it’s about the bond.” — Ian Somerhalder

It’s also a nod to history. The Bottled in Bond Act of 1897 was America’s first consumer protection law, passed in response to an epidemic of counterfeit whiskey that was making people sick—or worse. The law required that bourbon be made by one distiller, in one season, aged a minimum of four years, and bottled under government supervision. It’s a tradition they honor with reverence.

When I ask about their wheated bourbon, Ian’s answer is telling: "It wasn’t where we wanted it at four years. So we let it rest. We’re not just going to bottle something to hit a timeline."

There’s humor here, too—natural, unforced, and genuine. These guys rib each other like brothers. At one point, Ian casually mentions drinking bourbon straight from the bottle with Paul’s mom on a California hillside.

"Just the two of them," Paul deadpans.

"It was a photo shoot!" Ian laughs. "There were other people!" Yet for all the jokes and charisma, it’s clear they take their work seriously. With more than 24,000 points of distribution across the U.S., Canada, and Europe—and a team of just six people— they’re building something with real legs. What’s next? A transition from foundational to refined. They're dialing in their 80 proof flagship to a bolder 85 proof, launching a bespoke barrel program for restaurants and retailers, and introducing micro-batching techniques based on a meticulous record of flavor profiles from individual barrels.

"We know which barrels from which seasons give us what flavors," Ian says. "We’ve got a giant book full of that data. It’s time to put it to use."

“We’ve got a giant book of barrels. It’s time to put it to use.”

— Ian Somerhalder

— Ian Somerhalder “ ”
Bottled in Bond is not just about whiskey—it’s about the bond.

They’re also quietly working on finishing experiments—Cabernet barrels, Port, Caribbean rum casks—all stored in what they call their “digital library of innovation.”

But it’s never just about the whiskey. It’s about connection. They light up when talking about their vision for the Brother’s Bond Bourbon Society—a community built not around status, but stories.

"It doesn’t matter who you are," Paul says. "C-suite exec, bartender, dad unwinding after work. You sit down with a glass of bourbon and a cigar, and you share. That’s what it’s about."

And that, in essence, is Brother’s Bond. It’s more than a celebrity brand. It’s a well-crafted, purpose-driven spirit, born from friendship, built on transparency, and delivered with a wink and a clink.

So yes, they’re not “just vampire guys” anymore.

They’re whiskey men—true to the grain.

HOW NICK MELILLO LIT THE FIRE BEHIND FOUNDATION CIGARS
INTERVIEW BY LINCOLN SALAZAR

In an industry built on heritage, flavor, and fierce devotion, few names command the kind of reverence that Nick Melillo does. The founder and creative force behind Foundation Cigar Company has spent nearly three decades carving out a space that’s both deeply personal and globally respected—where ancient tradition meets bold storytelling, and the soul of the leaf is honored with every draw.

In this exclusive conversation with Enthusiast Report Magazine Publisher and CEO Lincoln Salazar, Nick opens up about his roots in Connecticut’s Broadleaf country, his transformative years at Drew Estate, and the fearless leap that led to the creation of Foundation. As the company nears its 10-year milestone, Nick reflects on the passion, perseverance, and cultural legacy that have shaped his journey—and hints at what’s still to come for one of the most respected brands in premium cigars.

Lincoln Salazar: Nick, take us back to the beginning—what first drew you to the world of premium cigars, and when did you know this would become your life’s passion?

Nick Mallilo: My journey began in 1996, that summer I graduated high school. My father gave me a Diamond Crown humidor as a graduation gift, and I walked the ceremony line smoking a Puros Indios #2 Torpedo. That was the spark. Growing up in Connecticut, I was surrounded by the aroma of Broadleaf—my grandfathers and uncles all smoked cigars made locally. The cultural and historical roots of tobacco, especially in my home state, pulled me in. Once I started smoking cigars with my grandfather and brother, it became more than a product—it became a meaningful ceremony and a way of life. I knew early on this wasn’t just a hobby—it was my calling.

LS: Before launching Foundation Cigars, you spent years at Drew Estate. How did your experience there shape your philosophy and approach when founding your own company?

NM: Drew Estate was truly a masterclass in the cigar business. I moved to Nicaragua in 2003 at the age of 24, fully committed to immersing myself in every facet of the craft—from tobacco purchasing and fermentation to blending, logistics, quality control, and production planning. I began this chapter of my life by living on a tobacco farm just outside of Estelí called La Soledad—a farm that’s now cultivated by AJ Fernandez and provides the tobacco used in my Tabernacle blend.

My initial role at Drew Estate was as Director of Tobaccos and Production, and over time, I grew into the position of Vice President of International Operations. Back then, Drew Estate was a fraction of what it is today—focused almost exclusively on infused cigars. Over the next 12 years, I was proud to play a central role in building the company into the largest handmade cigar factory in Nicaragua. It was an incredible time of growth and transformation, and I was fortunate to have a visionary mentor in Jonathan Drew and a dedicated team in Nicaragua who felt more like family than colleagues.

Those years didn’t just shape my skills—they shaped who I am. They taught me what it means to live and breathe this craft with passion, patience, and precision. When I launched Foundation Cigar Company, I brought all of that experience with me—but infused it with my own vision: one deeply rooted in history, culture, storytelling, and an unwavering respect for the leaf and the people who bring it to life. Foundation is more than a cigar company; it’s the continuation of a journey that began on a farm, fueled by a dream and a love for tradition, authenticity, and innovation.

LS: Foundation Cigars is coming up on its 10-year anniversary—a major milestone. What emotions does that stir in you when you reflect on the journey so far?

NM: It’s a deeply humbling experience. Foundation started as a dream—born from my desire to build something meaningful and personal. I launched the company in 2015 with a small team, a ton of passion, and a mission to create cigars that tell stories rooted in history and culture. We were working around the clock, wearing multiple hats, and doing everything from blend to brand development, production planning, logistics, accounting, legal, and of course sales. We were building from the ground up, one box at a time.

To see how far we’ve come, and to know we’ve earned the respect of retailers, aficionados, and the global community—it’s overwhelming in the best way. I carry immense gratitude for everyone who’s been part of this journey, from the farmers and factory to our sales reps and retailers. The 10-year mark is more than a milestone—it’s a reminder of what’s possible when passion meets purpose.

Foundation is more than a cigar company; it’s the continuation of a journey that began on a farm, fueled by a dream and a love for tradition, authenticity, and innovation. "

Tobacco isn’t just an ingredient—it’s a living, breathing extension of the earth. "

LS: The early days of Foundation were lean and intense. What was the biggest challenge you faced when starting out—and how did you push through?

NM: The biggest challenge was stepping into the unknown. After more than a decade with Drew Estate, I had stability, strong industry relationships, and a deep-rooted connection to Nicaragua. Leaving all of that behind to start from scratch meant rebuilding everything— establishing infrastructure, sourcing the right tobaccos, assembling a team that shared my vision, and doing it all under the looming uncertainty of new FDA regulations. At the time, there was serious concern that federal legislation would halt the introduction of any new brands after 2016, which created an immense amount of pressure. Starting a business is never easy—but starting one in a highly regulated industry where your ability to operate could be cut off at any moment was a massive risk.

What got me through was clarity of purpose. I knew I’d regret it for the rest of my life if I didn’t take the leap. I believed in the vision, and I believed in the value of telling stories through cigars—stories rooted in culture, history, and personal experience. And while I knew failure was always a possibility, I also knew that with my background and experience, I could always contribute to the industry in another way if things didn’t work out.

Fortunately, I wasn’t alone. I had a strong network of growers, artisans, and collaborators who believed in what I was trying to build. But at the end of the day, it came down to perseverance, patience, and staying true to my values. Success doesn’t happen overnight—especially in this business. But when you build something with intention and authenticity, people recognize that.

LS: Your cigars are known not only for quality but for storytelling. How important is cultural heritage and symbolism in your branding and blend creation?

NM: It’s absolutely essential. Cigars are more than tobacco—they’re vessels of history and culture. Whether it’s Charter Oak, honoring my home state of Connecticut and its deep tobacco legacy; Olmec, which pays tribute to one of the oldest Mesoamerican civilizations; or The Tabernacle, rooted in ancient Ethiopian traditions and the sacred legacy of the Ark of the Covenant—these aren’t just names, they’re narratives.

My blends reflect the sacred nature of tobacco as used by indigenous peoples and its historic role throughout civilization. The symbols, names, and artwork are never an afterthought— they’re woven into the DNA of each cigar. For me The packaging and band design are a visual language that reflects the soul of the blend—but it all begins with the tobacco. That’s where my passion and expertise lie. Crafting a cigar always starts with selecting the finest leaf, and from there, the story unfolds in every detail.

LS: The Tabernacle, The Wise Man, and Highclere Castle have all developed cult followings. What goes into the creation of a blend that resonates that deeply with aficionados?

NM: It starts with reverence for the leaf. Tobacco isn’t just an ingredient—it’s a living, breathing extension of the earth. I spend years working with farmers, fermenters, and rollers to understand the nuances of each crop. I blend slowly, with intention, constantly testing and refining until it hits the right emotional and sensory note.

But beyond the technical side, I believe a great cigar tells a story—visually, emotionally, and culturally. The bands, the box, the name—all of it should align with the experience you have when smoking it. That’s why so many of our blends resonate deeply—they’re grounded in authenticity and built to evoke a sense of time, place, and purpose.

LS: You’ve worked closely with some of Nicaragua’s finest farms and factories. What makes Nicaragua such a special place for tobacco—and for you personally?

NM: Nicaragua completely transformed my life. I immersed myself in the culture—living on farms, working shoulder to shoulder with boncheros, rollers, fermenters, and some of the most respected tobacco families in the world. The country’s rich volcanic soil, shaped by millions of years of geological activity, combined with the microclimates of regions like Jalapa and Estelí, produces some of the most dynamic and flavorful tobacco on earth.

What makes Nicaraguan tobacco truly unique is the extraordinary range of flavor and strength that can be found within a single plant—from the low-priming leaves to the top. This versatility allows for incredible depth and complexity in blending, and it’s why Nicaraguan fillers have become the backbone of so many renowned cigars.

But beyond the tobacco, it was the people of Nicaragua who made it home for me. Their warmth, generosity, and passion for the craft embraced me from the beginning. Without their knowledge and heart, I wouldn’t be where I am today. They didn’t just teach me tobacco—they welcomed me as one of their own.

LS: Looking ahead to Foundation’s 10-year anniversary, are there any special releases or surprises fans should be watching for?

NM: Absolutely—Foundation’s 10-year anniversary marks a major milestone, and we’re celebrating it with a very special release: the Foundation 10-Year Aniversario cigar. This limited-edition blend is a culmination of a decade’s worth of passion, craftsmanship, and dedication to tradition.

The cigar is a 7 x 58 Salomon vitola, a shape chosen for its elegance and complexity. It features a hybrid wrapper made from both Connecticut Broadleaf and Connecticut Havana Seed, paying tribute to my roots in the Connecticut River Valley. The binder is a rich Brazilian Mata Fina, and the filler is composed of premium Nicaraguan tobaccos from EstelĂ, Jalapa, and Condega, offering a layered and refined smoking experience.

The imagery behind the cigar also tells a story—St. George slaying the dragon, a symbol of resilience and perseverance, which reflects the challenges we’ve faced and overcome in this industry over the past decade. We hope to begin shipping this summer/fall. This release is more than just a cigar—it’s a statement of gratitude, a tribute to our journey, and a testament to what’s possible when you follow your passion.

LS: How do you balance staying true to your roots while also innovating to keep Foundation Cigars evolving and relevant in a fast-moving industry?

NM: Balancing tradition with innovation is at the heart of what we do at Foundation. Staying true to your roots isn’t about standing still—it’s about growing with purpose. I always ask myself, “Does this idea reflect our values and deepen the story we’re telling?” If it strengthens our commitment to quality, culture, and craftsmanship, then it’s worth exploring.

Innovation can take many forms—refining fermentation methods, experimenting with heirloom seed varietals, designing packaging that speaks to heritage in a modern way, or partnering with artists and institutions to expand the narrative. But it’s never about chasing trends. Everything we do circles back to authenticity.

LS: Finally, if you could go back and give one piece of advice to yourself in year one of Foundation, what would it be?

NM: Trust the process and be patient with yourself—because real craftsmanship and lasting success aren’t built overnight. In the beginning, I was so focused on proving myself and getting the company off the ground that I often pushed too hard, too fast. I’d tell myself to slow down, enjoy the journey, and not stress over every detail that’s out of your control.

I’d also reconsider hiring friends and family. While it can seem like a natural fit early on, personal relationships can quickly get complicated when mixed with the pressures of a startup. Make sure roles are clearly defined and that loyalty doesn’t override accountability.

And just as importantly, don’t neglect your personal life. It’s easy to get consumed by the mission, especially when you care so deeply—but maintaining balance is key to long-term success. The foundation of any great company is a founder who’s not just driven, but also grounded.

Cigars are more than tobacco—they’re vessels of history and culture. "

JOURNEYS MEET

THE STORY BEHIND TRIBUTARY CIGARS

INTERVIEW BY LINCOLN SALAZAR

In the world of premium cigars, there are brands that produce cigars, and there are brands that craft experiences. Tributary Cigars belongs proudly to the latter. Born from the friendship and shared vision of Dr. Rubin Cockrell and Vincent Ontiveros, Tributary Cigars is a tribute to the journeys, relationships, and memories that shape who we are. With a powerful partnership with the esteemed Tabacalera El Hoyito, they are setting a new standard—not just for quality, but for meaning. Every cigar carries a deeper story, inviting smokers to slow down, reflect, and celebrate the connections that make life extraordinary.

Lincoln Salazar: Let’s start with the name — “The Tributary Cigars.” What’s the story behind it?

Dr. Rubin Cockrell & Vincent Ontiveros: The name “The Tributary Cigars” represents the convergence of personal journeys, stories, and legacies. For us, it is a symbol of how the influences, relationships, and experiences of our founders, Dr. Rubin Cockrell and Vincent Ontiveros, flow together—much like tributaries joining to create something greater. Vincent came up with the name while on a trip in Texas when he saw it on a sign, and ever since then the name resonated with him, especially after he researched the meaning of "tributary." From then on, the name stuck with him until his partnership with Dr. Rubin Cockrell was formed and ultimately used the name for this new passion. Every cigar pays homage to the people who have inspired us, and every gathering becomes a way to connect lives and memories, forming a legacy that goes beyond a single person or moment.

LS: Aurelius is being introduced as your crown jewel. What makes this release so special, and how long was it in development?

DRC & VO: Aurelius is more than a cigar; it’s a manifestation of our dedication to excellence and heritage. Developed over two years, it was a labor of love, involving collaboration with master blenders at Tabacalera El Hoyito. The name was chosen to evoke wisdom, strength, and legacy—values that are personal to us both. The day we knew Aurelius was ready was a powerful moment; sharing the final blend with friends and family, we felt that rare sense of harmony and satisfaction, knowing we’d crafted something worthy of those we seek to honor.

LS: You’ve partnered with Tabacalera El Hoyito, one of the most respected artisanal factories in the Dominican Republic. How did that relationship come about?

DRC & VO: Our partnership with Tabacalera El Hoyito is built on shared values—family, craftsmanship, and respect for tradition. We searched for a partner who could not only deliver unmatched quality but also share our passion for meaningful storytelling through cigars. Meeting their team, we saw the pride and artistry in every step of their process, reflecting the same commitment we bring to honoring our loved ones and to building a brand that truly stands for something greater than ourselves.

Every cigar pays homage to the people who have inspired us, and every gathering becomes a way to connect lives and memories, forming a legacy that goes beyond a single person or moment. "

...we hope others will find their own meaning, making every Tributary cigar a vessel for love, memory, and belonging. "

LS: Walk us through a day at the factory. What’s something behind the scenes that most cigar lovers would be surprised to learn?

DRC & VO: At the factory, you sense immediately that this is more than a workplace—it’s a family. The tobacco selection is meticulous, and every roller’s hands carry years of training and tradition. What surprises many is the reverence for rituals—whether it’s a shared meal at noon, the stories exchanged, or the blessing of new blends to honor loved ones. That sense of unity and purpose infuses every cigar with meaning, and we carry those traditions with us in every product we share.

LS: How would you describe the flavor profile and experience of smoking the Aurelius?

DRC & VO: Aurelius offers a complex, elegant profile—starting with toasted almond and cocoa, evolving into cedar and gentle spice. But beyond flavor, it’s about the emotion and reflection each cigar invites. We picture it savored at life’s milestones, intimate gatherings, or in quiet solitude—moments where you pause, remember, and connect with legacy. For us, smoking Aurelius means honoring those who came before and those who walk beside us now.

LS: Cigars are about connection, storytelling, and culture. How do you see The Tributary Cigars contributing to or elevating that experience?

DRC & VO: We created The Tributary Cigars to foster genuine connection and to pay tribute to stories that matter—our own and those of our customers. We see the brand as both a lifestyle and a movement: each cigar is an invitation to celebrate, remember, and pass down tradition. In honoring our own stories, such as Rubin’s tribute to his son and Vincent’s to Jennifer, we hope others will find their own meaning, making every Tributary cigar a vessel for love, memory, and belonging.

LS: There’s a beautiful emphasis on legacy in your partnership with El Hoyito. How do you balance tradition with innovation?

DRC & VO: Honoring legacy is central to our mission, but so is evolution. We respect time-honored techniques, but we also embrace innovation— whether it’s in the blend, packaging, or in how we tell our story. We’re proud to share our journey openly and to invite customers into the creative process. That balance allows us to keep the tradition alive while leaving room for growth and new ways to honor those we cherish.

LS: Every great cigar tells a story. Can you share a moment — maybe personal or unexpected — where one of your cigars created a lasting memory for someone?

DRC & VO: For us, the heart of Tributary Cigars is about honoring those we’ve loved and lost. Dr. Rubin Cockrell’s journey is forever marked by the memory of his son, Lorenzo Michael Cockrell, who was stillborn. Each time Rubin lights a Tributary cigar, it’s a moment of remembrance—a way to carry Lorenzo’s legacy forward, ensuring that his impact endures through every story, every celebration, and every quiet reflection.

Similarly, for Vincent, one of our cigars is dedicated to the memory of Jennifer Dawn, a beloved girlfriend of his whose life was tragically lost this past December. Jennifer and Vincent loved to travel, especially to tropical locations. Since then, Vincent always takes one of the Jenn Dawn Cigars and lights up on the beach in her memory. Both Lorenzo and Jennifer's spirits continue to inspire us. Through The Tributary Cigars, both Lorenzo and Jennifer are honored and remembered for us. Legacy is about keeping their stories alive into a living tribute and inviting others to do the same with those they hold dear.

LS: What has been the most challenging part of building The Tributary Cigars? And what has been the most rewarding?

DRC & VO: Our biggest challenge has been holding true to our mission—never compromising on quality, authenticity, or the values that inspired us to begin. The journey has brought obstacles, but also immense fulfillment. The most rewarding moments come from seeing our cigars bring people together, foster new traditions, and offer comfort and joy in moments of remembrance and celebration. That’s when we know our legacy— and the legacy of those we honor—continues to grow.

LS: Finally, what can we expect next from The Tributary Cigars?

DRC & VO: Our vision is to expand our legacy with new blends and limited releases, each crafted with the same care and intentionality that defines us. We look forward to hosting events that celebrate the stories and people behind every cigar, and to inviting more of our community to share their own tributes. With every step, our commitment remains: to honor the past, enrich the present, and inspire the future of cigar tradition.

WHERE THE RIVER WINDS, THE VINES THRIVE

HIGH ABOVE THE DOURO RIVER, WHERE SUN-DRENCHED TERRACES CLING TO STEEP CLIFFS AND ANCIENT VINES PRODUCE LIQUID GOLD, PORTUGAL’S MOST BREATHTAKING WINE REGION INVITES YOU TO SIP, EXPLORE, AND SURRENDER TO THE THRILL OF DISCOVERY.

Rising through steep schist hillsides carved by the snaking River Douro, the vineyards of northern Portugal’s Douro Valley offer one of the world’s most striking landscapes and richest wine traditions. A UNESCO World Heritage site and the cradle of Port wine, the Douro is a place where time-honored viticulture meets breathtaking natural beauty. But beyond its fortified fame, the valley has quietly become one of Europe’s most exciting regions for worldclass still wines—red, white, and rosé.

The Douro is not just a place—it’s an experience. Small, terraced plots, some centuries old, cling to rugged slopes that drop sharply to the river below. Grapes are still harvested by hand, and in some places, foot-treading remains part of the winemaking ritual. This is a region of resilience and reverence—for nature, for tradition, and increasingly, for innovation.

A WINE REGION OF DUAL IDENTITY

Though Port wine put the Douro on the map centuries ago, the last few decades have seen a renaissance in dry table wines. Winemakers are now embracing native grape varieties like Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), and Rabigato to produce elegant reds and fresh, mineral-driven whites. The valley’s climate—hot, dry summers and harsh winters—is demanding, but it rewards perseverance with deeply expressive wines.

From century-old quintas (estates) to cutting-edge boutique producers, the Douro's transformation into a multifaceted wine destination is reshaping its global reputation. While Port remains its crown jewel, the diversity and complexity of its still wines are increasingly earning international acclaim.

FIVE MUST-TRY WINES

1.

MARIA TERESA

3. 2. from the Douro Valley

QUINTA DO NOVAL NACIONAL VINTAGE PORT

Type: Port (Vintage)

Grape Varieties: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto CĂŁo, and others

Notes: Legendary, complex, and rare. Lush layers of plum, chocolate, spice, and graphite.

Why It Stands Out: From ungrafted vines— one of the world’s most collectible Ports.

4. 5.

WINE & SOUL PINTAS

Type: Red

Grape Varieties: Over 30 traditional varietals from a single old vineyard

Notes: Rich, expressive dark fruit, crushed herbs, and earthy minerality. Bold but balanced.

Why It Stands Out: A cult wine that exemplifies the Douro’s terroir-driven potential.

QUINTA VALE D. MARIA DOURO TINTO

Type: Red

Grape Varieties: Traditional Douro field blend

Notes: Full-bodied with ripe red berries, spice, and a touch of vanilla from French oak.

Why It Stands Out: A flagship dry red that consistently earns high scores and accolades.

THE FUTURE OF THE DOURO

As climate change impacts global wine regions, the Douro’s deep-rooted vines and rugged terrain may offer a distinct advantage. Producers here are increasingly focused on sustainability, organic practices, and preserving the biodiversity that defines their unique microclimates.

Whether you're drawn by the allure of a vintage Port or intrigued by the rising tide of Douro’s dry wines, the valley invites discovery. Each glass is a reflection of the landscape—a place of extremes and elegance, where ancient stone walls hold the stories of generations, and every harvest is a testament to human dedication.

From river to ridge, the Douro offers not just a wine—but a journey.

TOP 5 LUXURY PARTY DESTINATIONS

FOR 2025 WHERE EVERY SUNSET TURNS INTO A CELEBRATION

As the days grow longer and golden hour stretches into velvet nights, the global glitterati begin their annual migration to the world’s most intoxicating party destinations. From Mediterranean islands pulsing with music to Hamptons estates humming with exclusivity, summer 2025 promises a season of unforgettable soirées, sea-sprayed toasts, and stories best whispered over Champagne.

If you crave the kind of summer that unfolds like a movie—one starring DJs, diamonds, and the distant hum of a superyacht engine—these five destinations deserve your boarding pass.

1. IBIZA, SPAIN

The Eternal Epicenter of Hedonistic Glamour

There’s no party like an Ibiza party—because Ibiza isn’t just a destination; it’s a state of mind. The Balearic queen of nightlife continues to reign supreme with sun-drenched beach clubs, cliffside villas, and after-hours legends in the making.

By day, elite travelers lounge at Blue Marlin or sip magnums of rosé at Cotton Beach Club. By night, the energy shifts: Ushuaïa erupts with electrifying open-air sets, while Hï Ibiza sets a new standard in immersive nightlife. But the real VIP move? Private villa fêtes with infinity pools, world-class chefs, and guest lists tighter than a Birkin clasp. In Ibiza, the party never ends—it just changes elevation.

2. MYKONOS, GREECE

Bohemian Decadence on the Aegean

Mykonos is where mythology meets martinis. This dazzling Cycladic island, once a fishing village, is now a mecca for jetsetters who crave authenticity with a side of champagne.

At Scorpios, the ritual begins with soul-stirring sunset ceremonies before morphing into tribal beats and barefoot dancing in designer kaftans. Nammos turns sand into a runway, while JackieO’ brings old-school elegance with drag shows and champagne showers.

But Mykonos seduces in the details: late-night yacht escapades to Delos, secret speakeasies tucked behind blue-shuttered doors, and cliffside dinners where the view is as intoxicating as the wine.

3. ST. TROPEZ, FRANCE

Riviera Royalty in Full Bloom

The French Riviera's crown jewel, St. Tropez, remains synonymous with luxury and allure. Think bronzed bodies aboard gleaming yachts, vintage convertibles curling through the hills of Ramatuelle, and beach clubs where fashion week never ends.

Club 55 continues its reign with effortless chic, while Nikki Beach delivers sun-drenched spectacle. But beyond the velvet ropes and rosé-soaked afternoons lies an intimate St. Tropez: candlelit jazz bars in the old town, midnight swims off private docks, and intimate garden parties where your neighbor might just be a rock icon.

It’s not about being seen. It’s about being remembered.

4. MARBELLA, SPAIN

Old World Charm, New World Energy

Marbella is Spain’s best-kept not-so-secret—where the Andalusian spirit meets unapologetic opulence. The Golden Mile is lined with palatial resorts, where the likes of royalty, billionaires, and top-tier influencers escape the ordinary.

By day, Ocean Club Marbella pulses with Champagne sprays and Balearic beats. Come nightfall, Olivia Valère and Mamzel become catwalks of extravagance under a canopy of stars. But the true magic lies in the contrast: flamenco performances in ancient courtyards, tapas tours through cobblestone alleys, and rooftop lounges with panoramic views of the glittering Mediterranean.

Marbella doesn’t ask for attention—it commands it.

5. THE HAMPTONS, USA

East Coast Privilege, Polished to Perfection

A summer in the Hamptons is not an escape—it’s a rite of passage. For those fluent in discreet luxury, this stretch of Atlantic coastline offers a social calendar worthy of a screenplay.

Start with an impossibly chic brunch at Topping Rose, continue with curated shopping in East Hampton, and end with an estate party where the guest list is tighter than a Hermès vault. In Montauk, The Surf Lodge delivers a more bohemian beat— surfboard racks by day, music legends by night.

From rosé-drenched polo matches to unannounced concerts in candlelit barns, the Hamptons is where the 1% come to unwind— and occasionally, to misbehave.

THIS SUMMER, YOU’RE THE GUEST OF HONOR

From the glistening shores of the Aegean to the velvet ropes of the Riviera, these five destinations define what it means to party in style. So dust off your passport, pack the silk and sequins, and lean into a summer where every night is legendary—and every morning begins with stories worth telling.

Because in 2025, luxury isn’t just a place. It’s a lifestyle.
