scent is an inspired triple bill featuring the reprise of Antony Hamilton‘s Helpmann Award-winning Forever & Ever and two new works – I Am-ness by Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela and The Shell, A Ghost, The Host & The Lyrebird by renowned international choreographer Marina Mascarell.

Brimming with physicality, Ascent tempers contemporary classical with futuristic experimentation. I Am-ness calls for the convergence of the moving body and creative mind, as four dancers canvass the nature of existence with euphoric tenderness. Mascarell’s ethereal new work, The Shell, A Ghost, The Host & The Lyrebird, poses many questions as the dancers move through a constantly transforming space. To conclude the triple bill, Forever & Ever fuses dance, techno, high fashion and vivid lighting to hypnotic effect. Brought to life by Sydney Dance Company's superb ensemble, this is a creative union at once forceful, sumptuous and dizzying. We are thrilled to welcome back Sydney Dance Company to Tamworth!

sobel Lomax and Dolly Biddle are two 'mature' cable-tv cooking show hostesses who have hated each other for 30 years, ever since Larry Biddle dated one and married the other. When circumstances put them together on a TV show called The Kitchen Witches, the insults are flung harder than the food! Dolly's long-suffering TV-producer son Stephen tries to keep them on track, but as long as Dolly's dressing room is one inch closer to the set than Isobel's, it's a losing battle, and the show becomes a rating smash as Dolly and Isobel top both Martha Stewart and Jerry Springer! Directed by Jenny Sullivan and presented by Tamworth Dramatic Society, this ‘made in Tamworth’ production is sure to be a fun night out full of laughter and cooking mayhem!

uldea awakens the earth and sky worlds to tell the story of the Anangu people of the Great Victorian Desert.

This major new work by Bangarra Dance Theatre explores the moment traditional life collided with the industrial ambition of a growing nation. In 1917, the two halves of the Transcontinental Railway met at the precious water soak on the edge of the Nullarbor, Yuldi Kapi.

Great metal serpents scarred the landscape, draining all water from the sacred soak. Then came the black mist of the atomic testing at Maralinga, forcing the Anangu people to leave their desert homelands where they had lived for millennia. Now memories lay scattered, like the Anangu people, displaced from their home. Remnants of colonial progress are swallowed by sand. But the Anangu endure, determined to keep strong their knowledge systems of land and sky, honouring their eternal bonds of kinship between people and place.

oris and George meet in 1951, a chance encounter in a Californian hotel that leads to a passionate one-night stand. Both are married to other people but they soon become aware that this might be the start of something special and they promise to meet 12 months later. So begins a lasting 25-year romantic love affair, filled with laughs, loss and change. The play charts their lives through the ups and downs of parenthood, career highs and lows as well as the shifting fashions and morals of the passing decades. One of the most popular romantic comedies of the century, Same Time, Next Year ran four years on Broadway, winning a Tony Award for Ellen Burstyn, who later recreated her role in the successful motion picture opposite Alan Alda. It remains one of the world's most widely produced comedy plays.

A puppet musical of hope

andicoot, Koala and a very fun-loving Frilled Neck Lizard regale their story, part truth, part myth but mostly inspiration, of a woman who transforms her world to bring about hope and happiness for herself and the world around her. Do you ever wonder how much just one person out of 7.8 billion can really accomplish? Inspired by Jean Giono’s The Man Who Planted Trees, The One Who Planted Trees is an inspirational story that proves just how much one person can do and will have you humming out of the theatre, pulling out the spade and watering plants into the ground. In the face of a global climate emergency, how can we find hope? What good can one person do? This is a fun and joyous springboard for serious discussion about our world and the environment we all value.

e swept away as the Sydney Symphony Orchestra presents the music of beloved Australian composer Nigel Westlake, including the award-winning song cycle Compassion featuring singer-songwriter Lior. Based on ancient texts, Compassion unites singer-songwriter Lior’s energising vocal range with acclaimed composer Nigel Westlake’s (Babe, Paper Planes, Miss Potter) orchestral writings. Moments of ethereal beauty and lyricism give way to harmonic innovations and dazzling percussion, as we’re swept up into that rare realm of artistry and collaboration that crosses cultural and emotional divides. Commissioned by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and winner of an ARIA Award for Best Classical Album, Compassion is an ‘astonishing piece of Australian music’ (Russell Torrance, ABC Classic) and a luminous deep-dive into the power of human compassion. Westlake’s Trumpet Concerto was written especially for the Orchestra’s Associate Principal Trumpet Brent Grapes. hakespeare’s classic comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, is reawakened in this breathless production brimming with magic, mirth and mayhem.

Love is in the air in Athens – and it’s contagious. Besides the royal wedding, which is just days away, there are young lovers dreaming of enchanted futures together. Hermia and Lysander are besotted with one another, while Helena adores Demetrius. The only snag is that Demetrius loves Hermia – and he’s got Hermia’s father on his side. So nobody is happy. (Shakespeare wasn’t kidding when he said the course of true love never did run smooth.) Determined to be together, Hermia and Lysander meet in a moonlit forest with plans to elope. Following hot on their heels is Demetrius, who in turn is pursued by a lovelorn Helena. But the young lovers are not alone in the forest. Nick Bottom and his hapless bunch of tradies have gathered to rehearse a play to be performed at the royal wedding. And, hidden from human eyes, a mischievous sprinkling of fairies are also in the forest that night. The three worlds collide in an explosion of comic confusion that throws the future of all the lovers into jeopardy. This pared-back production is quick as a shadow. Fast, funny and family-friendly, this is A Midsummer Night’s Dream reimagined.

hen Mimì meets Rodolfo, it’s love at first touch. They head out to bustling Café Momus, where the feisty Musetta and Marcello rekindle their relationship. But even the deepest love can’t warm a freezing winter.

For our bohemians, everything is possible and the future can't come quickly enough. Rodolfo and his friends are determined to make their mark on the world and experience everything it has to offer – but right now they'd settle for something warm to eat. Some emotions are too big for words alone, and for that, we have music. La Bohème exposes your soul to the feelings that only music can express. The music soars with the ecstasy of love, crackles with the pain of jealousy and cries with the agony of loss.

With the innocence and clear-sighted wisdom of children, Clint and his friends show how with a little tolerance and understanding, we can all get along in our multicultural society, and that who you are matters so much more than what you are. Auguste Rodin and 19th Century Sculpture

Rodin is one of the heroic figures of 19th century art history and was internationally celebrated during his lifetime. But after his death his reputation slipped and there were questions about his use of the female image. His work is very much being reassessed and he is seen as having in one career taken sculpture on a revolutionary path equivalent to what the Realists, Impressionists and Post Impressionists did with many careers. This lecture surveys his work showing why he is one of the greatest sculptors of all time and his continuing relevance.

19 April – Adrian Dickens

The Possessions of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor ….. Art or Obsession?

This lecture provides an insight into the story of the Abdication of England’s King Edward VIII, and the purpose of the legendary jewellery & art collection of the Duchess of Windsor. You will learn why a man who didn’t want the British throne spent the rest of his life trying to replicate it. Hear the stories behind the Duchess’ obsession with fashion and displays of jewels. Understand how the Windsors used their collections and possessions to undermine the occupants of Buckingham Palace. You will discover who ‘Cookie’ and ‘Shirley Temple’ are and why the Windsors loathed them.

10 May – Andy McConnell

The Genius of René Lalique

René Lalique was the 20th century's greatest glass designer/entrepreneur. Lalique's extraordinary work was unrivalled, combining his unique visual sense with a perfect understanding of glassmaking technologies and revolutionary approach to marketing. This talk is a visual feast, covers Lalique's early work in jewels and furniture before he dedicated the remainder of his life, c1905-45, to glass. His output spanned simple, pressed cosmetic pots through car mascots and stemware to the unique cire perdu [lost wax] vases that today can command tens and even millions of pounds.

15 June – Kendrah Morgan

Sidney Nolan at Heide: The man behind the mask

Sidney Nolan is perhaps the most famous member of the 'Heide circle', the group of young artists whose formative careers were championed and shaped by Melbourne art patrons John and Sunday Reed. This lectures charts Nolan's early, experimental years as a young painter, from his days as a commercial artist and the enfant terrible of the Melbourne art world to the completion of his acclaimed Ned Kelly paintings in 1947. It also explores his complex relationship with the Reeds, who supported Nolan unreservedly from the time of their first meeting in 1938 until his abrupt departure from Heide a decade later, after which they never saw him again.

The Architecture of Mughal India: Palaces, Mosques, Gardens and Mausoleums

Prior to British rule, India was governed by the Mughal Emperors. The stunning buildings and gardens they constructed from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries left an indelible stamp on India’s cultural landscape. Mughal architecture fused elements from Islamic, Persian, Turkish and Indian traditions, giving rise to some of the most beautiful, iconic buildings in the world. From the Jama Masjid in Delhi, to the Taj Mahal in Agra, to Shalimar Gardens in Lahore, this lecture will take you on a tour of some of India’s greatest buildings, examining their historical contexts and the colourful personalities involved in their construction.

9 August – Vivienne Lawes

What have the Huguenots ever done for us? Mass migration and the arts in Britain

The mass migration of the French Protestant Huguenots in the 16th and 17th centuries impacted the arts, the military and finance sectors of the countries to which they fled following Catholic persecution in their homeland. This lecture focuses on three areas of the arts impacted by the migration: the silk weaving industry; the silversmiths and ceramicists introducing Rococo style into Britain; and the Baroque style of the great Huguenot designer, Daniel Marot, who worked for William and Mary at Hampton Court. We see how the artistic works of the Huguenots changed material culture and became integrated into British national identity.

13 September – Rosalind Whyte

A Highland Thing: 18th to 20th Century Scottish Art

For many years Scottish artists found it necessary to travel south to make their names and careers in art, but with the growth of Edinburgh and Glasgow from the end of the 18th Century, an independent Scottish art scene became possible. Individuals such as Sir Henry Raeburn enjoyed success whilst remaining in their native Scotland, while Sir David Wilkie became one of the first to truly export Scottish art. This lecture will also look at parallels between Scottish and European art, as well as periods of divergence, touching on art movements such as the Glasgow Boys and the Scottish Colourists.

18 October – Paul Chapman

Toulouse Lautrec: The Painter of Montmartre

This talk will look at the life and work of the Post-Impressionist painter Henri Toulouse-Lautrec. For two decades of Lautrec's short life the artist lived and worked in the Parisian district of the Montmartre. Lautrec led a colourful and theatrical life and through his paintings and graphics recorded a time of decadence in what was Paris's entertainment district. Nightclubs, cafe concerts, cabarets, and brothels, Lautrec experienced and painted them all.

8 November – Lecturer to be confirmed
