The stages of grief were first developed by Elizabeth Kubler-Ross's during the (1960’s), which were initially identified for people going through a “Terminal Illness.”

The 5 Stages of Grief are: Denial, Bargaining, Anger, Depression, and Acceptance.

There are many dimensions of grief such as: grieving the loss of a relationship, loss of a job, loss of an addiction, loss of a lifestyle, and/or loss of a loved one.

Everyone grieves differently and the journey for closure is not a neat, step-by-step process that is not “a one size fits all”. Sometimes a person may experience all 5 stages in a day. However with support, multiple interventions, and courage is when acceptance and closure is achievable.

Starting April 2, 2024, the Wellness department will be hosting a “Grief and Loss Group” on Tuesday and Thursday Evenings from 5pm to 7pm at the Wellness Center.

The group is open to the community and all are welcome to come participate. The group will be talking feather format, as well as providing education on grief, and offering traditional/spiritual approaches such as the sweat lodge ceremony.
