Saturday, September 30th, 2023 National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

This is the third year that Gladys McDonald and the Elders organized this walk for children that attended Residential School. This is for those that didn’t make it home and healing for those that survived. This is also dedication to the MMIWGs.

Global News Edmonton Slav Kornik and camera man came to interview Elder Glady and leadership about “Walking Together” to honour “Every Child Matters and MMIWGs. Chief Cody Thomas, Councilman Rocky Morin and Councilman Lyle Morin were able to participated this year.

'A monumental day': Enoch Cree Nation, Alberta agree on new surgical facility west of Edmonton.

A new "culturally safe facility" offering roughly 3,000 publicly funded orthopedic surgeries will be built on Enoch Cree Nation land just west of Edmonton, the Alberta government and the Enoch Cree Nation announced Wednesday.

The chartered surgical centre will be open to Indigenous and non-Indigenous patients starting in June 2025 and

will help to reduce wait times, Health Minister Adriana LaGrange promised calling it an "innovative partnership."

"Today is a significant moment in our ongoing journey to reconciliation in Alberta," added Indigenous Relations Minister Rick Wilson.

"This will be a testament to our commitment to working hand-in-hand. "The facility will be operated by the First Nation in partnership with Alberta Health Services and is one of the first of its kind in the country.

"This isn't tokenism, this is reconcili-action," Chief Cody Thomas said during the media announcement.

"The intent of our treaty was to share and I'm always going to stress that…This is a monumental day for us as a First Nation."

Chief Thomas said Enoch will pay for and own the building, which will include other medical facilities, at a cost of up to $50 million.

Alberta provided planning funds for the project and will staff the facility. The province currently has contracts with three other

chartered operators in Edmonton which provide orthopedic surgery spaces in exchange for service fees.

AHS performed a total of 292,500 surgeries in 2022-23 and Alberta's budget includes an $80-million increase, aimed at performing 20,000 more.

In April, Enoch and Alberta agreed to build a $30-million addictions treatment centre in the First Nation, which is expected to be open as soon as next year.

It was an honour to attend the ground breaking ceremony to mark the construction of a new chartered surgical facility on Enoch Cree Nation.

This facility is an innovative partnership that will reduce wait times and increase surgical capacity by providing 3,000 additional publicly funded surgeries a year.

Thank you, Chief Cody Thomas, and the Enoch Cree Nation for the invitation and for hosting us today.

CONGRATULATIONS ROWEN!

Future Enoch Entrepreneurs ! Awesome Art Pieces! Way to Go Girls! Keep up the great work!

Shutout to Rowen McDonald from Enoch Cree Nation for attending the Prince George Cougars Camp of the WHL!

9 years ago I set a goal to bring back our own Minor Hockey Association in Enoch. I assembled a working team and we hit the ground running, attended several meetings, and met the objectives and deadlines to start our own MHA.

Less than a year later, we created Enoch Cree Hockey Association (ECHA). It has been one of the most rewarding parts of my work in recreation, knowing we gave the kids and opportunity to play hockey with their friends and family, and represent their community.

All the volunteer hours, and the ups and downs of hockey seasons can be challenging; however, the whole process has been a blessing for me and I am thankful for the opportunity to help my community.

Today, I have officially resigned as President of ECHA. It has been a huge part of my life, and I would like to thank all of the board members of the past and present that helped create ECHA and fulfill the duties for our kids to play.

Billy Morin was a huge supporter of ECHA and bought the Stanley Cup in the picture and got all our players,

coaches and board members to sign it in our first year of operation in 2015/16 and I am grateful he gifted it to me last year.

I have complete faith in our new President, Marcus Morin, and new Vice-President, Kayla Thomas and the rest of the team.

I will stay on as an advisor and help with the transition. It was honour to serve as President, and I wish all our board members, players, coaches and volunteers all the best!

WHL HOCKEY IN ENOCH ALBERTA

It was an amazing evening at the Old Barn, as we hosted the Oil Kings vs Hitmen exhibition game.

It was nice to see all the kids and fans enjoying some fast paced WHL hockey in Enoch.

I’d like to thank the Oil Kings Organization, our volunteers, River Cree Drum Group, Christina Hollingsworth (anthem in Cree), and last but not least, the Enoch Community Centre Staff.

Oil Kings vs Hitmen Exhibition Game

I am grateful for all your hard work at the Old Barn over the summer.

This event would have been possible without you guys. Your help with the renovations and meeting the tight deadlines has brightened up our facility in time to start our season off in the right direction.
