We asked Oglethorpe student D’Zerrea Richarte to respond to the themes of the play and to reflect on the importance of having dreams. After working so hard with passion, everyone deserves a chance to reach their dreams. Sometimes, it may seem that a dream won’t become a reality when there are no positive outcomes that follow. In Max Makes a Million, Max exemplifies a model dreamer who is resilient through all obstacles. Old or young, everyone can smile and laugh as Max shares how his dreams come true. When I first read Max Makes a Million, I could not help but remember when my dreams became a reality. After months of studying and working hard, I was able to finally reach my dream of studying abroad in England at Oxford University. Much like Max, I finally had the chance to see a world that I’d only dreamt of. I had the chance to write about and study plays I wouldn’t have come across otherwise. This play is for “Dreamers. Wishful thinkers. (And) Dreamy blinkers.” Nothing makes a dreamer happier than making a dream a reality. Synopsis … Beat-poet dog Max Stravinsky is on a quest to get to Paris, but because he cannot sell his poems, he has no money to travel. So instead, right in his hometown of NYC, Max and his wishful thinking friends dare to dream beyond what seems possible.
