The painter Manuel Espinoza was born on January 1, 1937, in San José de Guaribe, Edo. Guárico.

Son of Rafael Characo and Virginia Espinoza.

He lived his childhood between Guárico, Caracas (Catia) and then the family moved to Valencia, Edo. Carabobo his adoslecencia passed in Caracas.

He studied at the Arturo Michelena School (1953-54), in Valencia, Edo. Carabobo at the Cristóbal Rojas School (1954 -58), in Caracas, pure art and graphic arts, and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, Italy (1958), then moved to Paris, France and the School of Fine Arts , where he studied the engraving workshop of the French painter Jean-Eugène Bersier (1895-1978); to complement his training he attended the Louvre School in Paris, the engraving workshop and the art history course of the French historian and art critic, Pierre Francastel (1900-70); subsequently, he enrolled at the Hochschule für Bildenden Kunste in Berlin, Germany, in 1960, in lithography by the German painter and artist Friedrich Stabenau (1900-80) and painting with the German visual artist Hans Trier (1877-1962).

He participated in groups at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris and the Venice Biennial (1962), representing Venezuela. He taught in Venezuela, since 1963, teaching graphic design, visual communication, painting, drawing, museology, cultural administration; in the following institutions: Cristóbal Rojas School (1963), Experimental Center of Art (University of the Andes, ULA, 1965-66), Neumann Institute (1970-73), School of Social Communication (Central University of Venezuela, UCV, 1971 -76), Centro de Enseñanza Gráfica, Cegra (1975-82) and the School of Arts (UCV, 1981-83).

He founded and served as director of the National Art Gallery, GAN (1976-84), and the Armando Reverón University Institute of Advanced Plastic Arts Studies, IUESAPAR (1990); directed the Círculo Pez Dorado [Association to promote the work of new artists], in Caracas (1964); member of the board of directors of the Rómulo Gallegos Foundation (1979); was in the creation of the Venezuelan Association of Plastic Artists, AVAP; of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Zulia, MACZUL; and in the advice of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Maraccay Mario Abreu, MACMMA, in Edo. Aragua; vice minister of culture and president of the National Council of Culture, CONAC (1999-2003).

Militar in the Communist Party of Venezuela (1954), traveled to Moscow, Russia, and participated in the World Youth Festival (1956).

He received the National Prize for Plastic Arts (1987).

BSTRACTION

Some of the works of the most outstanding artists of the twentieth century geometric abstraction, among them, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Jesus Soto, Mateo Manaure, Francisco Narvaez, Manuel Espinoza, Hugo Arapé, Antonio Pérez-Melero and Darío Pérez-Flores, will be present in the spaces of Licoteca.

Through geometrical abstraction the canons of representation of the image were broken. Figuration as a reflection of reality yielded to the stylization and synthesis of forms through line, color, geometric figures, composition, planes and rhythm.

This sample of great masters of abstraction, product of the alliance between Licoteca, VitaArte Art Dealers and Enatem LLc. in the spaces of the liquor and drinks shop of La Castellana, it proposes an alternative space that joins the avant-garde in exhibition modalities, thus linking with the objective of socializing and spreading this wonderful artistic current.

These works belong to the private collection of Enatem LLC group.

The schedule is from Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. at 9:00 p.m.
