Manuel Mendive Hoyos, Artist of the Plastica, of Cuban Nationality, among the recognitions he has received are counted, the most recent in 2009 the Medal of the Five Continents of UNESCO, the National Prize of Plastic Arts in 2001 granted by Cuba, the Order Knight of Arts and Letters of the Ministry of Culture and Francophony of the Republic of France in 1994, and the Order Felix Varela of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba in 1994. The genesis of his creative search is inserted in discovering the mystery of the creation from the own energy that emanates from the orishas of the Yoruba pantheon. His works show that telluric force of spontaneous fluidity in order to express his conceptualization of the term identity, element of search within the movement of rescue and revaluation of the culture fostered in the sixties in Cuba. In that attempt to unveil the Cuban, driven by the social process itself, Mendive emerged with a poetic possession of a powerful lyricism, expression of a wisdom linked to the African roots in which he captures, from his family environment, his environment and his history . By appropriating the magic and myth present in the daily life of the believers, he has recreated his genuine and particular cosmos, where the gods are presented in their relationship with the mortals, but not with the mortals acting in the original Yoruba myth, but men and concrete and current women.
