2016 KIA SORENTO SXL AWD Dallas, Texas - Off we go in the newly restyled KIA Sorento SXL AWD for 2016. All the way to Big D and back with the good looking Titanium Silver look with a flare that caught the eyes of many on our trip. Under the hood is proven 2.0 Liter Turbo Gas Direct Injection four-cylinder engine producing 19 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles on the highway. Our vehicle certainly lived up to its billing and then some with

those numbers. Built with 53 per cent of its parts from the United States and Canada and only 47% of its parts from Korea. Both the engine and transmission are built in the USA as well as the final assembly point being here. The transmission a six-speed automatic with Sportmatic provides some smooth shifting and yet enough power when you want to get on down the road. The new Sorento SXL AWD is equipped

with Independent front and rear suspension and Full-Time AWD with lockable Center Differential and rolling on 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped by performance tires. All this made for a quality ride. Safety galore the new Sorento with Dual front advanced airbags, front seat mounted side airbags along with side curtain airbags (1st and 2nd)Row seating. Anti-lock brakes stops the new Sorento safely and smoothly and traction control and Electronic Stability Control as well as Hill start rounding out most of the safety standard equipment. Let us not forget tire pressure monitoring system and Blind Spot Detection system added! Inside a stylist instrument cluster that provides the driver with a clear cut view of all the gauges

making them easy to read and the knobs and big and round and certainly driver friendly. The Dual Zone automatic climate control system allows us to set it and be done with it for our trip. When it comes to sounds the Infinity Surround Sound Audio System provides us with all the sounds we wanted from CD player all the way to Sirius XM Satellite radio which comes with three-free months. The navigation system comes with a huge eight-inch display screen along with rapid charge USB ports. Blue tooth wireless technology

rounds out the technology of the new Sorento. Premium Nappa Leather trim seating first and second row really gives the new Sorento a special look and feel! Power driver seat with memory feature as well as power lumbar support and heated and ventilated front seats. Throw in the fat the steering wheel is tilt and telescopic and is heated leather wrapped. Oh yes this all for just over $45,000, man we were impressed with the new 2016 KIA Sorento SXL AWD.

HYUNDAI GENESIS RWD 3.8 CONTINUES TO IMPRESS AMERICANS By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View For many years Americans have had a love affair with their automobiles but over the last few years Americans are now falling in love with vehicles that are imported. Take for example the all new 2015 Hyundai Genesis RWD 3.8 which had 81 percent of its part from Korea including both the engine and transmission. The final assembly point for the new Genesis is Asan, Korea and only five percent of its parts come from the US/Canada. That makes it one of the few full imports left. But that has not stopped Americans from loving it just the same. To start with the new Genesis is making a name for itself among our Country’s top Luxury Touring Sedans. Power by the 311 horse powered 3.8 Liter DOHC V6 GDI and Dual CVVT Aluminum engine. This baby get out with best of them and still manages to get 18 miles per gallon in the city and a whopping 29 miles per gallon on the highway. For a combined 22 miles per gallon. We are talking some serious economics here.

HONDA ACCORD FOUR-DOOR TOURING V6 By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View As the years have gone by the Honda Accord has been a mainstay as it relates to affordability and quality in a family vehicle. Well the 2015 Accord V6 four-door sedan is keeping the trend alive and well. Our test vehicle prices at just over 34 Grand came pretty well

equipped. Starting with a 3.5-liter SOHC 24-valve V6 engine that generates 278 horsepower and is mated to a sixspeed automatic transmission. Throw in four-wheel disc brakes and the Accord is ready to roll with the best in class. Front MacPherson strut suspension with rear multi-link suspension and electric power assisted rack and pinion steering balanced by

front and rear stabilizer bars makes for excellent driving feel. When you are away from the vehicle its great to know it has immobilizer Theft-Deterrent System. Push button starts with keyless entry are just a couple more features. Safety for the Accord has always been one of the vehicle strong points. Driver and front passenger Dual stage airbags along with driver and front passenger side airbag with smart Vent. Throw in side curtain airbags with rollover sensor and forward collision warning. the one when you making a right turn and it comes to life right before you eyes. Clearly one of the auto industries best safety features of all-times. Steering wheel mounted controls and blue tooth hand free link along with Pandora Internet radio interface plus Satellite XM radio along with SMS text messaging functionally makes those who has a flare for technology right at home in the Accord. The driver 10-way power seat with two-position memory and four-way front passenger seat both heated as well making the Accord feel more luxurious. In closing we would like to add plenty of trunk space and with the rear seats fold down space galore this product.

THE NEW HYUNDAI SANTA FE LIMITED By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Austin, Texas-The all new Hyundai Santa Fe Limited Front wheel drive is making a bigger name for itself. After winning the Motorweek Driver’s Choice Award, the new Santa Fe is going about the business of turning heads and getting attention. During our week long test we took the new Santa Fe to Austin for the State Championship in Track and Field. All along 290 people kept pulling along side up and giving us the Thumbs Up sign. That when you know people are paying attention to the product line. Power comes in a new 3.3 Liter Gasoline Direct Injection V6 engine that produces 290 horsepower at 6400 RPM and 252 lbs per foot of torque at 5200 RPM. The vehicle gets 17 miles per gallon in the city and 23 miles per gallon on the highway. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with

Shiftronic and Active ECO system. Power rolls onto the pavement on P235/55R 19-inch performance tires wrapped neatly around alloy wheels. This provides a smooth sifting motion and a well balanced with plenty of cargo and passengers space. Among the safety advanced technology the new Santa Fe has Vehicle Stability Management with traction control, along with ABS with Electronic Brake Force Distribution and Brake Assist. Throw in Down Hill brake control and Hill start assist control this baby is about as technically sound as they come. The overall styling is much more modern and up to date with a bevel front end much like the more expensive models. The rear has a deep slant and chrome-tipped dual exhaust tips really set it off with the rear spoiler. Front fog lights help show off the rugged side of the vehicle. Roof side rails help accent the new styling and a more expensive look. Our test vehicle came just under 40 Grand. Inside the new Santa Fe Limited we were pleased to find a more luxurious interior but the practicality remain with big knobs and easy to read gauges. More room yet no wasted space inside the cabin made for a good trip to Austin. Leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob along with driver and front passenger seats with lumbar support. The

second row Captain Chairs and third row fold forward seats adding to what is already a huge cargo carrying space. Heated feature for front seats is another way Hyundai added to this vehicle as it comes into the luxury category. A 4.3-inch Color touch screen with rearview camera and AM/FM/HD Radio/CD/MP3 with iPod and USB/Aux Input Jacks plus Sirius XM radio with 90-day free trial complete with Blue tooth and Hand free phone system and electroluminescent Gauge Cluster with color LCD trip computer that really looks great at night. An optional 8inch screen with 12-speaker Infinity Logic 7 audio system truly made the trip more pleasant. Other options includes ventilated front seats with rear parking assistance sensors 115 volt power outlets and panoramic sunroof to name a new of the Ultimate Package on our test

vehicle. Let me also note we had to make a seriously sudden stop but the Santa Fe came to swift smooth stop some 4 to 5 feet from a fatality on 290 just outside Houston on our way back. The ABS worked well and the vehicle did not slide nor did it spin out of control, just a smooth sudden stop! Clearly an import with 83 per

cent of its part from Korea with the final assembly point being in Ulsan, Korea and both the engine and transmission are Korean built. Only 4 per cent of the new Santa Fe parts are from the United States and Canada. In closing let me add that Hyundai is also willing to give you a full tank of gas with your purchase!

Washington HS/HSEP. He is an honor student and also a member of the world famous “Baby Ocean of Soul” Marching Band. During my interview of Armani, I asked him what he liked most about Booker T. Washington HS/HSEP? Without hesitation, “he stated that it was his involvement in the band”. He went on to say that, “being in the band is like having many more brothers and sisters in your family. We all love music and we all love being members of the “Baby Ocean of Soul” Marching Band”. He also added that “as a child attending his first football game and after

hearing the band perform, he knew that one day he would attend Booker T. Washington HS/HSEP and join the “Baby

Ocean of Soul” Marching Band”. His plans include attending college and becoming an architect.

STUDENT OF THE WEEK DESTINY MOORE - BOOKER T. WASHINGTON By Dr. Victor Keys A King-Size View Destiny Moore is a student at Booker T. Washington HS/HSEP. She is also an honor student with a beautiful voice. She sings in the youth choir at her church and at Booker T. Washington HS/HSEP. Destiny is also a member of the “Baby Ocean of Soul” Marching Band.

When asked about the school’s spirit at Booker T. Washington HS/HSEP, she stated that “our spirit is very high, mainly because Booker T. Washington HS/HSEP is a great school”. She added that “not only is it one of the oldest schools in Texas, we also have one of the best marching bands in the world”. I also sked her how she felt about the administrators Booker T.

Washington HS/HSEP, she stated that “she believed the principal and her staff were fair and had the students’ best interests in mind”. Destiny added that “she will always love “Booker T. Washington HS/HSEP because, of the many positive relationships with staff and students she has experienced since her first day as a freshman”. During my interview, I asked Destiny if she had to give President Obama a grade what would it be? Destiny quickly replied it would be an A+. She stated that “it would be an A+ because; he has helped millions of people to overcome many obstacles to include heath care, wages, and college expenses”. Student of the Week (Destiny Moore)

TASSELS TURN FOR FOUR GRADUATES IN THE SAME FAMILY Graduating is the pinnacle achievement in most young people’s lives. It is the culmination of several years of learning, growing and maturing into someone that is prepared to produce positive results that will serve themselves and society productively. One local family will get to experience the joy and celebrations that graduating brings four times in less than a month as the entire family of four are graduating and moving onto a new chapter in their

lives. Loletha Turner, a single mother of three will receive her Accounting MBA from Texas Southern University May 16; her daughter, Carletha Smith, just days ago marched across stage to receive the Associates Degree from Lone Star College on May 9; son, Jerrin Turner will graduate from Humble High School May 23; and daughter, Lailah Thompson will graduate from Humble Vista Academy June 4, from kindergarten to first grade.

“It has been a roller coaster experience preparing for four straight weekends of graduation ceremonies,” Turner says of the experience. “I only realized about three weeks ago that we will all be wearing graduation caps and gowns. Everyone has been busy trying to finish these final days of classes, but I think that we are finally getting to a point where we feel like we can breathe and see the light at the end of the tunnel.” Taking a cue from their mother who instilled in them that they must make a commitment to and finish what they start, Carletha is continuing her studies in the hopes of becoming a nurse practitioner and Jerrin, who will graduate in the top 10% of his class, will study engineering. Lailah, as she prepares to leave the ‘kindergarten baby’ status

behind, is already advanced for first grade level. Loletha herself will be graduating with honors and was recently inducted into the Jesse H. Jones Beta Gamma Sigma international honor society chapter. While this was not planned and sort of just happened, it has been no easy task to get to this point. Loletha and Carletha both work full-time and Jerrin works part time. Every one pitches in and helps with Lailah and sometimes they only see each other in passing. Loletha gives credit for this accomplishment to her Christian faith and the support she receives from her mother and several of her co-workers who hold her up on days when she feels like she can’t go on. Despite dealing with close family medical emergencies over the past few months that could have

taken her off track of finishing her master’s program she has fought through it and found a way to deal with the things that came her way. “It’s tough being a single mother; however, I am living proof that whatever you want to accomplish can be done. I believe that it takes a village to raise children because one person can’t do it all. I want to be that model citizen to give back and help others.” As for as celebrating everyone’s accomplishments, Loletha plans to have one big party in June to celebrate. “I want to celebrate my kids, not necessarily myself, but them. Because as a parent I feel that is what I should do. Trying to get them into college has taken a lot of energy and once all that is done I will look to plan a celebration.”

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK MYLES MARSHALL-HUMBLE KINGWOOD

ALEXIS DUNCAN - DE SOTO By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View MYLES MARSHALL HUMBLE KI GWOOD Austin, Texas-for the third straight year Humble Kingwood’s Myles Marshall and won the 800 meters state championship. The senior who is bound for Harvard was all smiles as he walked away with his third straight state title in a time of 1.52.84. We spoke the young man who set a record with his performance. “My Dad ran this race a few years ago and he has been a great help along with coaches and the competition has been great every since my sophomore year so I’ve been pushed to do my best”. When asked about the race itself before more than 22 thousand fans at the Mike A. Myers track on the

campus of the University of Texas at Austin, Marshall replied. “Well we had a little wind and it was noticeable on the back stretch but all I had to do was time my kick and it worked out for me. Keeping in shape during the summer months has led to Myles being ready each year the title stretch. “All summer long I run against good competition and that gets me ready for our local showdowns. “I first lap was a bit strong and all season I had worked very hard on being stronger in the opening lap”. Understanding the competition is great outside the state of Texas and going against those guys has made him stronger. “When you are running against National guys they don’t care what you have done in Texas”. Once he was accepted at Harvard it was an easy choice

for to follow up on. “Going to school to get an education and a school like Harvard is too good of an offer to pass up so I’m excited and running track there is a blessing”. For the second straight year Myles Marshall has teamed with Dominic Swoopes, Dawson Trudell and DeWitt Thomas to win the Mile relay. This year they did so in a time of 3.12.44 just head of Manvel. ALEXIS DU CA - DE SOTO Austin, Texas-In one of the best performance in many years De Soto’s Alexis Duncan graced the track with her presence and it will be long remembered. The senior bolted to a record tying 13.25 win the girls Class 6A 100 meters hurdles. She tied the mark sent by Aldine-Eisenhower Alandra Sherman in 2003. Many thought when Sherman did her thing it would not be tied, but on this wonderful day for track Duncan did it before a crowd of more than 22 Thousand. After finishing up on the 4 by 100 meters relay in which De Soto won in a time of 45.38, Alexis had to make the long walk to the other end of the track. Teaming with Shavonne

Jackson, Zaris Whittaker and Kira White in this event to pick up 20 points. “I was tired a bit but the 100 hurdles is my race and I had to tell myself to get ready go out and win it”. When asked what is the key to the De Soto girls track team’s success over the year Alexis said it’s due to working hard in practice. “We practice hard indoor or out doors depending on the weather but we always work hard and I think that’s why we’ve been successful”. The talented young lady rolled the title in the girls 300 meters hurdles as well in a time of 42.09 adding 10 more points to her school’s second place finish of 48 points. As we talked more with Duncan she says she is still undecided on where she will further her education but she does know what her major will be. “Oh I want to major in Animal Science and I heard Texas A & M has a good Veterinarian School so that’s one I will look into”. It seems to be a growing trend these days for student/athletes to major in some form of animal care. “I’ve always loves animals and the Goat is my favorite”. With plans of running in Cuba for the USA team this summer and off to college and later run on the pro circuit. In closing we asked if she thought she would

be the next Mary Onyali who participated in 5 Olympics over a 20 year period. “No sir, not that long at some point I want to raise a family and enjoy life after living my dream”.

GIRLS TRACK REPORT JUDSON EDGES DE SOTO FOR CLASS 6A TITLE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Austin, Texas-Before one of the largest crowds of all-time the young ladies put on a show at Mike Myers Stadium with 22,954 fans watching. Converse Judson scattered 60 points to edge De Soto who had 48 points and Cy Springs took third with 45 while Cedar Hill placed fourth with 28 points. Judson breezed to the title with a 3.45.56 in the 4 by 400 meter relay at the end. De Soto had no entry in the mile relay. Judson used the hard running of Marih Kuykendoll, Dominique Allen, Zantori Dickinson and Darionne Gibson to take the honors. Cy Spring got second with Whitney Ochiam, Nikesha Keith, Ariah Mack and Sierra Smith doing their thing in a time of 3.45.88

Plano East claimed third and Fort Bend Hightower took fourth place. In the 100 meters class 6A Taylor Bennett of Klein Collins (11.43) won the gold while Kira White of De Soto (11.48) took second as Samiyah Samuels (11.57) took third for Cy-Springs. The 4 by 200 meter relay Gold went to Cedar Hill in a time of 1.36.93 with Nikko King, Victoria Jackson, Jazmyn Shumaker and Danyel White doing their thing. Killen Harker Height took second and Fort Bend Hightower third. The girls 6A 400 meters went to Aaliyah Miller of McKinney Boyd with a time of 54.31 and it was Miller again in the 800 meters with a time of 2.08.94. In the 300 meter hurdles it was Alexis Duncan of De Soto doing

her thing while Jessica Duckett and La Carol Baynes of CyLakes took second and third places. Kiana Horton of Judson won the 200 meters in a time of 23.10 while Taylor Bennett of Klein Collins took second and Danyel White of Cedar Hill placed third. Samiyah Samuels of Cy-Springs won the long jump with a leap of 29-07.75 well head of Clear Springs Thai Williams. In the Discus throw it was Meia Gordon of Cy-Creek leading the way with a 155-09 to take the gold. The 4 by 100 meter relay went to De Soto as Shavonne Jackson, Kira White, Zaria Whittaker and Alexis Duncan did so in a time of 45.38. Judson placed second and Cy-Spring claimed the third spot in the event. It was Duncan in the 100 hur-

dles again in a time of 13.25 to tied the mark set by Alandra Sherman of Eisenhower in 2003. Jessica Duckett of Cy-Spring took second and Javlyn Cameron f Katy Mayde Creek claimed third. Houston’s Lamar high school long distance runner Julia Heymach won both the mile and two mile races. Please see The

THIS WEEK IN TRACK-MANVEL CLAIMS CLASS 6A TITLE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Austin, Texas- A huge crowd of nearly 23 thousand fans were on hand as the track burned at the Mike Myers Stadium on the campus of UT Austin. Manvel spread out 55 points and won the first ever class 6A title. It was their second place finish in the mile relay that did the trick. D’Vaughn Pennamon, Reginald Hemphill, Joshua Martin and Howard Fields did their thing in a time of 3.12.48 just behind Humble Kingwood who won for the second year in a row in the event. It was Dominic Swoopes, Myles Marshall, Dawson Trudell and DeWitt Thomas in a time of 3.12.44 just ahead of Manvel. Port Arthur Memorial did not have a entry and placed second with 44 total points.

Manvel picked up more points as they took second in the 4 by 200 meter relay as Reginald Hemphill, Christen Childs, D’Vaughn Pennamon and Deontay Anderson did the honors. But Port Arthur Memorial won the event in a time of 1.24.29 with JaCorie Jones, Quantae Conner, Corey Dauphine and Kameron Martin taking care of business. In the boys class 6A 4 by 100 meter relay it was Arlington Martin taking the vent in a time of 40.33 while Port Arthur Memorial took second. Then Manvel used D’Eriq King, Jarren Colbert, Deontae Anderson and D’Vaughn Pennamon to win third place and building more points. The 200 meters went to Deontay Anderson of Manvel in a time of

20.99 as Corey Dauphine of Port Arthur Memorial took second and Darrion Flowers of Arlington Martin 3rd. North Shore’s Kerwin Roach won the triple jump with leap of 50-06.25 as Saigs Revell of De Soto took second. The 800 went to Myles Marshall of Humble Kingwood please see Athletes of the Week for more on Myles. In the 300 hurdles Cy-Falls Isaiah Lucas won it with a 36.87 Caleb Richmond of Cy-Fair took 5th place. Over in the class 4A boys 800 meters race Booker T. Washington Isaac Brown placed third place with a time of 1.57.76. The senior says he would like very much to go into the Veterinarian profession because of his love for animals.

He went to chat with us about the tough workouts under head track coach Russell Austin. “Man I dread going to practice but it has certainly paid off for me, coach Austin don’t play it’s like cutting teeth but I’m proud of what he has taught me over the years”. As his time got better during the year Brown grew with his event and would be a good pick for some school this fall. Wheatley made a splash as Floyd Green took second place in the boys class 4A 400 meters. Green says he liked making the trip to Austin and he was inspired by fellow Wildcat Takyera who won the girls 400 meters and gave the Wildcats a great showing. “I just want to keep working hard and get better at this event as times goes on”.

Austin, Texas-The sensational junior Takyera Robinson from Wheatley high school continued to roll a she placed third in the 100 meters dash at the state meet. Her time of 11.60 was in a photo finish for second place. She then placed fourth in the 200 meters after having to run less than 30 minutes after the 100 meter race. But the lovely and talented junior thought about it and got it all together and took home first place in the 400 meters in a time of 54.97 well ahead of the second place finisher. “I just calmed down and didn’t let my emotions get the best of me this time”. Roberson is the younger sister of Oklahoma’s Deshun Roberson who ran a 51 second quarter in the Women’s NCAA this weekend. “My freshman year we won the state team title but last year I was hurt for the better portion of the track season, so this year we wanted

to come out and do well”. Roberson didn’t have the supporting cast she did as a freshman along with her AllAmerican sister so she know she would be going it along. “I wanted to make a great showing for Wheatley because we want people to know the Wildcats Nation is alive and well”. In talking with Takyera we also learn she felt it was a blessing to make it to state. “My sister Deshun is a big blessing for me and I certainly feel great to see her doing well and it motivates me”. Talking to herself during the last curve in the 400 Roberson pulled it all together and brought back the Gold to 5th Ward. Getting pushed is the best thing that happens for Roberson and she says it sort of transforms her into a better runner. “I kind of feel my body transforming like the Incredible Hulk or something when I’m pushed in a race”. the only other Wheatley runner at the state meet was inspired by her efforts. “He really said that, man that so sweet”. JULIA HEYMACH-LAMAR Austin, Texas-Clearly the best in the long run in Lamar’s sensational sophomore Julia Heymach. Taking the gold medal in the girls Class 6A 3200 meter run in a time of 10.14.62 well ahead of Devin Clark of Smithson Valley who many thought will give Heymach some good competition. The couple squared off in the 1600 meter race near the end of the meet and the results were the same. Heymach rolled to a 4.40.07 and claimed the gold medal in that event as well. With a bright smile on her face Heymach met the media following her history making night as her time beat the mile run state record of 4.43.58 set by Erin Bedell of Plano West in 2005. It was certainly a personal best for Heymach but we may not have seen the best she can be before she is done. “I just started out kind of aggressive and after I had done well in the 3200 meters I wanted to keep an even pace and go for the record in the mile run tonight”. That she did and the Lady Texans track program is going to be good for years to come. “I’m happy with the result and all year long my coaches kept my training so I would progress rather than level off”. She had a good freshman year and came back very strong. When we asked her about training techniques, Julia says she kind works out preparing for both these grueling races but work a lot on shorter speeds that actually good for the mile”. She felt Devin Clark and Madie Boreman were two girls who would propose a real threat to win the state title. “I’d seen them in the Texas Relays so I knew they were truly great competition along with Ashton Endsley”. In closing Julia says she plans to keep riveting up the training and making her strong in the mile and she is looking at dealing with the 800 meters as well”. With a tremendously bright future Julia is clearly the best in the long run!

According to Jesus, it MUST be done in this manner so that we ALL may be one, as He and His Father is ONE. Because man have not followed His instructions, there is confusion and division; even in the one faith, the church by Christ (Eph.3:21). WHEATLEY REMEMBERS ELDRIDGE SMALL JR. By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Wheatley Wildcats family joined in with the rest of Houston in celebrating the home going of Eldridge Small Jr. on May 23rd. His services were held at the Loving Word Fellowship Church where the dynamic Dr. Paul D. Landrew is the Senior Pastor. The Rev. D. R. Hector Jr. delivered the Eulogy before a packed house of well wishers for Small and his family during their time of grief. Born in Opelousas, Louisiana on August 2, 1949 Eldridge Small Jr. was the second child to Magnolia Smith and the late Eldridge Small senior. After moving to Houston Eldridge attended James D. Ryan Elementary and E.O. Smith Middle school before staring in three sports at Phillis Wheatley

High School. Football, baseball and basketball led to Small going to Texas A & I University where he would again star on the football team. With 20 touchdowns and more than 2300 yards as a receiver as well as a big time Lone Star Conference Defensive standout. Small was taken with the 19th overall pick in the 1972 NFL draft by the New York Giants. He also spent time with the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns during his NFL days. Holding the all-time reception leaders until 2013, Small was inducted into the Texas A & I Hall of Fame in 1991. Returning to Houston, Small begin a coaching career in the HISD that would last for 34 years with 22 of them coming at Ross Sterling and the rest as the head coach at Wheatley. In the classroom Small was more than a wood shop and special education teacher, but more like a mentor to the kids he worked with. Leading many of them to some outstanding college careers and several even all the way to the Professionals ranks. He also worked very well with in- coming coaches and was so well liked he won the recognition from Houston Mayor Bill White in 2009 as

May 16th was named Eldridge Small Day. Finding Christ at an early age Small joined Sunlight Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. A. B. Boylan and later moved over to New Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. D.R. Hector Jr. An outstanding family man, Small is survived by his lovely wife of 43 years Loretta Small, three wonderful children Jarvis Lynn, Eldridge III and Andrea Rachel Small-Roquemore. His mother Magnolia Smith, six grand children, three brothers and three sisters and a long list of friends, coaches and relatives. His sister Gloria Hawkins spoke so well of her brother and their childhood. The Wheatley Family was well presented at the services among them Dr. Charles Herbert, Big Horace Roberts and Edward G. Robinson to name a few. Reports are less than a week from his retirement Small became ill and never got well. On May 11, 2015 Small passed away leaving a tremendous following and a near perfect example for young coaches and play-

ers to follow. Congratulations are in order for his wife Loretta and the rest of the family for standing by him all this time. In closing please allow me to add we remember Small for being semi-formal, but very firm and focused and he was able to take a little talent and take his teams to the playoffs!
