Behind The Wheel With THE KING (Arthur Prayther)

CHEVY COLORADO 4WD Z71 CREW SHORT BOX Dallas, Texas-This month we also took a little trip in the all new Chevy Colorado 4WD Z71 Crew Short Box pickup and found it to be quite a thrill.

Powered by a 3.6L V-6 engine with direct injection the new Colorado cranks out 305 horses and that more than some full size vehicles. Yes the new

Colorado engineers thought about you when it’s time for fuel as with 17 miles per gallon in the city and 24 on the highway in the 4WD model. The 2WD

model gets 18 and 26. Torque peaks at 259 pounds per foot at 4000 RPM and the engine is mated to a Hydra-Matic 6L50 6speed automatic transmission. It has been a while since these vehicles have been upgraded and believe me you will notice the difference. The new Colorado even comes with 200 horses for the an industry leading 2.5 Liter standard engine for these models. As power gets back into the mix manufacturers World-Wide are doing what they need to do to make sure driver have the power when needed. Yet the economical fuel consumption of these vehicle is much greater than those in the past that posses the same amount of power. A much better overall ride is also present when you look at the independent coil over shock with twin tube shocks front suspension and the rear solid axle with semi-elliptic multi-leaf springs, twin tube shock and G80 automatic locking axle standing of the Z71 and available on the WT and LT Models. This is giving drivers a wide range of choices when you roll into your local Chevy dealership to make your buy. Electrically -assisted power rack and pinion provides very stable handling for this new grade of what was normally

called small truck segment. This mid-size segment comes with the first forward collision alert and lane departure warning, at points making you forget you were driving a pickup truck. Let look at the capabilities of the new Colorado Z71 Crew cab with Short box. The 5 feet 2 inch box carries a payload of 1590 pounds and can trailer 7,000 pounds. Power rolls to the pavement on 17 X 8 wheels wrapped by performance tires. Brakes are power-assisted four wheel disc with Dura life rotors and standard ABS. With the same warranty found on the bigger trucks the Colorado also has rear vision camera and a Premium Bose Audio system. The Bed liner is sprayed on and there is also a trailering equipment package. With 66 per cent of its parts from the United States and Canada and only 17 per cent from Mexico you could say the Colorado is home grown. Both the engine and transmission are built right here in the United States with the finals assembly point being Wentzville, Missouri. In closing lets not forget the new corner step bumper and the EZ lift and lower tailgate which is standard on the new Z71.

CHEVY INTRODUCES THE NEW 2015 TRAX LS FWD By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Sugarland, Texas- We went for a ride in the all new Korean built Chevrolet Trax LS FWD a coupe of weeks ago. It’s the 7th small-vehicle by GM introduced in the past four years. With 75 per cent of its part from Korea and only 4 per cent from the United States and Canada this baby is coming from abroad. The finals assembly point is Bupyeong GU, IN Korea with both the engine and transmission built in Korea as well. Keep in mind we are talking about starting price of less than 21 Grand. The new Trax is powered by a Ecotec 1.4L Turbo DOHC VVT In-line four cylinder engine. This little baby cranks out an aggressive 138 horses at 4900 RPM and 148 pound per foot of torque at 1850. Great fuel numbers at 26 miles per gallon in the city and 34 on the highway. Our test vehicle came in an attractive Silver Ice Metallic with Jet Black interior and the overall styling turned a few heads at work. The massive looking grille and the sleek looking rear end look was most noticeable. Once you are inside the new Trax you are treated to some comfortable seats with a good firm feel that’s not commonly found in vehicles at this price range. Hollowed up very well the new Trax has fifteen clever and convenient storage area including two-tier glove box with a USB port and auxiliary jack in the upper glove box for plug-in media. As we mention in other columns the new Trax also comes standard with OnStar 4G LTE with built-in Wi-Fi Hotspot complete with first three months free! A max cargo room of 48.5 cubic feet adds to the overall room for the new Trax. The cargo security cover is removable and a rear vision camera is also standard on these models. In addition to all we’ve mention above the new Trax has ten standard air bags and rear seat mounted Thorax air bags. Stability is full-function control system and four wheel disc brakes with ABS and electronic brake force distribution as well as cornering brake control and brake assist. These are all features you’ve learned to expect from larger more expensive Luxury sports Utilities and Sedans. In closing let me add if you are in the market and your funds are

a little short, you owe it to yourself to visit your Chevy dealer and take a test drive in the new

Trax. We know you will be glad you did!

TOYOTA SIENNA SE THE ORIGINAL SWAGGER WAGON STILL GOING STRONG By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View In these days of automobiles being built to suit the needs of the persons who are buying, the new Sienna SE is built for the family. We are talking 8 passengers here and a full-size minivan as they are called but it’s so much more. Take for example the 150 cubic feet of cargo space with the second and third row seats folded and 39 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row

seat. These are excellent numbers to say the least, but those the things we will discuss with you in this column. Under the hood is a proved 3.5 Liter V6 engine that produces 266 horsepower and still have the power to make sure you can get in and out of freeway traffic. Once you are inside the new Sienna SE you are quickly reminded you are in a luxury vehicle with a family setting in mind. Plenty of leg, head and shoulder room and the back seat

riders are treated to such a great interior layout. A center console that goes all the way down plus each rear seat driver has their very own DVD player with head phones. We are talking about a level of privacy unheard of for these types of vehicles. The Entune Audio system with Multi-media displayed on a 7inch touch screen with AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA and

playback capability. Two USB ports plus advanced voice recognition and rearview backup camera. Sure it has the first three months free with Sirius XM radio and an optional JBL 10speaker system. The driver is rewarded with an 8-way power adjustable seat while the front passenger gets a 4-way power adjustable seat. It’s fairly clear Toyota put some

thought into building this minivan as it had twin power sliding rear doors. This makes getting in and out a breeze and the rear doors open wide enough for entry to the third row seat easy as well. Let’s not forget all this comes with the quality and craftsmanship you have come to know from Toyota. We think that’s enough said!

HISD HONORS BOOKER AND OTHER LEGENDARY COACHES AT BOARD MEETING By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Moment before than monthly board meeting thanks to Paula Harris the Houston ISD honored the Late Luther M. Booker of Jack Yates, James “Bear” Bryant of Booker T. Washington along with living retired legends James “Bo” Humphrey of Jones and Ray Seals of Madison. Luther M. Booker took over the program at Jack Yates in 1971 and coached the Lion through the 1988 season. He won 168 games with only 37 defeats and 6 ties during that tenure. But will be forever remembered for the job he and his staff did with the 1985 16-0 class 5A state championship team. Fact is some consider it the best high school team in the history of his school football nationwide.

Winners in so many categories the Lions scored a record 659 points and recorded 8 shut outs and only allowed 77 points all season long. This included a shutout win over the MoJo from Odessa Permian high school 370 in Texas Stadium for the title. Defensive end James Goode had 40 sacks that season and the Lions defense held Spring Woods to only three first downs in their blowout 43-0. Sam Houston took the first playoff blow as Yates rolled over the Tigers 53-0. Only Jones played the Lions close 13-6 in district and21-15 in the region III title game. However West Orange Stark 19-6 and Madison 27-14 in pre-season did put up a fight as well. In addition to Booker, the board also recognized the legendary

James “Bear” Bryant who led BTW to the state semi-finals in 1968 the second year after the integrated schools in Texas. His Eagles went 14-1 including taking the region III title over Galveston Ball at Rice stadium before a crowd of more than 59 Thousand fans in the stands, still the largest crowd to see a high school football game in the country! For 9 years Fiesta sponsored the Booker-Bryant Memorial Classic each time the Yates Lions and BTW Eagles play drawing the largest crowd 7 of those years. The game has been discontinued since Fiesta changed owners a few years ago. Jones James “Bo” Humphrey was also honored for his many years of service to the district. Coming out of BTW in fourth ward in the late 40s Jones went on to coach at Lincoln where a Library is named in his honor. While at TSU Humphrey played on the 1952 Tigers National championship team and a big time official for track and field for many years. He also help create and preserve the PVILCA. Noted for leading Jones all the way to the regional finals in 1985 and giving Yates all the wanted. Some observers actually feel Jones was the state second best team that year. Former Madison coach Ray Seals was also honored for his

many years of service before retiring a few years ago. Seals was honored by the SWAC for his great years at PV and his record at Madison speaks for itself. One of the top winning coaches in the HISD history over the year and a fine leader of young men. Recognized by the NFL for his great works as well Seals highly respected for his works! We want to thank board member

Paula Harris for coming up with these honors. In the future there are many more, for example girls basketball Maurice Davis, Maurice McGowan and Elton Conger to name a few. Boys basketball coaching living legend such as Jackie B. Carr of Wheatley and Clarence Stubblefield of BTW to name a couple. The late Uriel Allen of Booker T. Washington and Jack Walker of Sterling to name a couple of more!

In talking with Sophus after their big win she made it clear the Lady Tigers had their hands full against the SWAC leading scorer in Jeanette Jackson of P.V. “We tried the man-to-man and they went into a zone and they were shooting us out so we just had to buckled down hard and adopt to what they were doing and win the game”. The soft spoken young lady went on to say they not only want to win

the SWAC tournament but get into the NCAA and upset somebody. “We are going to win the SWAC regular season and win the tournament as well”. Having an opportunity to play before her family is like old times for Sophus who stared at Wheatley High School. “That will be great to play at Toyota Center and win the SWAC tournament before my family and friends“. By the way the Lady Wildcats of Wheatley have another great scoring machine and rumor has it she is looking at TSU to play on the next level. “She’s great and nothing we would like better than to get her here so we can keep this going!

PV SLIP PAST TSU BEFORE PACKED HOUSE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The P V Panthers came into the H & P E arena on the campus of TSU hungry for a SWAC win at 4-5. The start of the second half came at the SWAC Leading Tigers who had beaten the Panther upon the Hill in January. Knowing the importance of the game the Panthers defense clamped down on TSU point guard Madarious Gibbs and went on to win the close game 58-55. It got them rolling and they went on to win the next four games giving them 4 straight wins for the first time since 2009. Montreal Scott led the Panthers with 16 points and Tre Hagood added 14 in the win. The balance attacking Panthers got 10 points from Reggis Onwukamuche and 9 points from Karim York. John Brisco senior from Longview, Texas played 27 minutes and added 7 points and some outstanding defense. Connecting on only one

of his 4 attempts from three point land Karim York a junior from Austin, Texas made a big shot with less than two minutes to play to give the Panthers the lead for good. “Actually sir, the play was designed for Montreal but I just faked it to him and the guy backed off me and I just put it up and in”.

As we talked more with York we learn he feels the Panthers have the confidence needed to make a serious run down the stretch. “You know after beating the SWAC leader in TSU today we feel we can get rolling now. The

Panthers went on to win their next three games and moved to 8-5 in SWAC play. Guard play is key for the Panthers and guard John Brisco has a pretty good game with 7 points. “Yes sir, we have talent on our team and we worked hard and move the ball while keeping our composure”. Brisco hit on 3 of 6 from the field in the game and said they kind of owed TSU one. “As you know they got us at our place so we wanted to get them at theirs”. Brisco went on to say the SWAC is based on the momentum, chemistry and focus when the

tournament begins. “I believe we are focused and ready to get on a roll and get into the SWAC tournament and win it all”.

Blanks led the Tigers with 12 points each. The Panthers and Tigers are defending SWAC tournament finalist and looks like a repeat in 2015.

His teammate Montreal Scott says he knows the big fellow can get the job done down low and he came to play on this night. We spoke with Reggis about his play and the Panthers pulling even at 5-5 in conference play. “From the halftime on we concentrated on stops and our guys did a good job of boxing them in and I just went up and got the blocks”. Many feel this kind of sets the tone for the Panthers and Reggis agrees with that. “We felt all along we were a better team than our 4-5 record indicated so we wanted to start the sec-

ond half of conference out with a big win here at TSU”. They got it and three more since that time to win 4 in a row for the

first time since 2009. “We certainly feel we have the best guards in the conference and they played so well tonight,

making the job easy for our big guys down low”. We agree with Reggis assessments of the game and its outcome as well!

COACH OF THE WEEK BYRON RIMM II - P.V. By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View In his 10th season as head Coach Byron Rimm II is continuing to make the most of his opportunities. After a slow start his P V Panthers came into the Health and Physical Education Area at TSU with a 4-5 record in the start of the second half of conference play. His team held their own in a packed house and escaped with a big 58-55 victory and pulled even at 5-5. “I think our team did the little things and played unselfish ball tonight and I’m proud of them for that”. Rimm is assisted by Byron Smith, Ryan Price and Keenan Curry and Graduate Assistances Yadorian Parham and Chase Clemons. The Panther defense clamped down when they needed too and held TSU in check down the stretch. “Reggis played hard and he timed the block very well sure I’m proud

of him they way he played in his home town“. As we talked more with Rimm we got into how well his guards Tre Hagood and Montreal Scott played scoring 14 and 16 points to lead the Panthers. “I’ve said before we feel we have the best guards in the conference with Tre and Montreal but sometimes we have to keep them in there real long and they get fatigued late in games, but they played very well tonight“. In closing coach Rimm said the team needed to get off to good start but there is plenty of work left starting with Jackson State and Grambling. Well Rimm’s Panthers won both those game and a win over Mississippi Valley State gave them their 4th straight win for the first time since 2009. Look for this trend to continue as Rimm continues to show he can get the job done and make the Panthers a big time winning program!

THE RISING STAR: TRE HAGOOD-PV By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View A senior from Pensacola, Florida named Tre Hagood is doing his thing and gathering more steam as the Panthers make a push in the SWAC. It all started when Hagood had 14 points and 7 rebounds in their big 58-55 win over TSU earlier in the month. Hagood teamed with Montreal Scott to form one of the better backcourt tandems in the SWAC. But the key to the win over TSU was the defensive efforts of Hagood and John Brisco on TSU point guard Madarious Gibbs who went 2 for 12 on the night and scored only 4 points and had 5 turnovers with only 3 assists. “Oh he was my man and we knew we had to contain him so he couldn’t get their offense going” The team was more focused according to Hagood and passing the ball was the key and the team did well with that. “First of all we focused more on what our coaches were telling us and it worked because shutting down Gibbs really kind of took things out of whack for them”. The intensity is the key according to Hagood and he feels the Panthers are on the right track and things are looking up for this team. “It was great to see Karim (York) hit that big trey and Reggie (Onwukamuche) get those big blocks that went well

with us shutting them down in the back court and we got the win”. The Panthers continued their winning ways with wins at Jackson State and Grambling before coming home against

WHAT IS TRUTH? THE LESSON: THERE IS A WAY WHICH SEEMETH RIGHT UNTO A MAN In the past few months we have studied the things that GOD has chosen (1Cor.1:26-31; James 2:5), again thereby understanding the things HE hath NOT chosen, and WHY (Luke 4:5-7). We have also learned by scripture HOW Christians are to live in this world, to be RIGHT, righteous with GOD, Please read,( Matt 19:20-26; Luke 4:16; Luke 6:24-25; Luke 8:14-15; Luke 12:15-20; Luke 21:33-36; Acts 18:1-3; Acts 20:32-35; Rom 12:12-15; 1 Cor 7:29-31; 1Thes 4:11; II Th 3:6-14; 1 Tim 6:17-19; 2 Tim 3:4-5; Titus 2:1115; Titus 3:3; Heb 11:23-27; James 1:9-12; James 2:1-5; James 5:1-3; James 5:5 ; 1 Pet 1:24-25; I Jn 2:15-17; I Jn 5:1721; Rev 12:9; Rev 13:7-9; Rev 14:13; Rev 21:4-8.) Again, we believe this is the key to Living a Christian LIFESTYLE. A Christian MUST understand the will of God through Christ and His apostles, in order to live the life that is RIGHT, righteous with GOD; Eph 5:13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. 14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. 15 See then that (1)ye walk (2)circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. Definitions: (1)ye walk-4043 peripateo (per-ee-pat-eh’-o); from 4012 and 3961; to tread all around, i.e. walk at large (especially as proof of ability); figuratively, to live, deport oneself, follow (as a companion or votary), b) Hebrew for, to live 1) to regulate one’s life 2) to conduct oneself 3) to pass one’s life: KJV— go, be occupied with, walk (about). (2)circumspectly-199 akribos (ak-ree-boce’); adverb from the same as 196; exactly, accurately: KJV— circumspectly, diligently, perfect (-ly). Man teaches that to have Carnal (secular) Prosperity in this world is a blessing from God. In our study of scripture we have learned the opposite. We have learned that God has not chosen this type of lifestyle, let alone blessed us with it. Contrary to what is taught, we have also learned that God has given over

these things and this type of lifestyle to the carnal/secular god of this world, which is the devil. According to scripture the devil gives it to whom he pleases; if we will worship him all shall be ours, (Matt.4:8-9; Luke 4:5-7; John14:30; 1Cor.10:2022; 2Cor.4:1-6; Eph.2:1-3; 6:10-13; 1John5:17-21; Rev.12:7-9; 13:6-9). Yet there are many religious leaders teaching carnal PROSPERITY in this world. So, again, is it because of some personal agenda? Could they be HIRELI GS, Please read; “John 10:12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. 13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep”; Supposing that gain is godliness, Please read; “1 Tim 6:3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; 4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, 5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, (1)supposing that (2)gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself. 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content”; So that merchandise can be made of you, Please read; “2 Pet 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words (3)make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. 4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment”; Why would one teach covetous

practices ? Please read; “2 Pet 2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; (4)beguiling (5)unstable souls: an heart they have (6)exercised (7)with covetous practices; cursed children: 15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness”; Again, we know not what their agendas are but the Lord knows. Definitions: (1)supposing-3543 nomizo (nom-id’-zo); from 3551; properly, to do by law (usage), i.e. to accustom (passively, be usual); by extension, to deem or regard,to hold by custom or usage, to own as a custom or usage, to follow a custom or usage; it is the custom, it is the received usage, to deem, to think, to suppose: KJV— suppose, thing, be wont. (2)that gain is godliness-4200 porismos (por-is-mos’); from a derivative of poros (a way, i.e. means); furnishing (procuring), i.e. (by implication) money-getting (acquisition), source of gain: KJV— gain. (3)make merchandise of you-1710 emporeuomai (em-por-yoo’-omahee); from 1722 and 4198; to travel in (a country as a peddler), i.e. (by implication) to trade to traffic, to deal in, to use a person or a thing for gain: KJV— buy and sell, make merchandise. (4)beguiling-1185 deleazo (del-eh-ad’-zo); from the base of 1388; to entrap, i.e. (figuratively) delude1) to bait, to catch with bait, to deceive: KJV— allure, beguile, entice. (5)unstable souls-793 asteriktos (as-tay’-rik-tos); from 1 (as a negative particle) and a presumed derivative of 4741; unfixed, i.e. (figuratively) vacillating: KJV—unstable, unsteadfast. (6) heart they have exercised-1128 gumnazo (goomnad’-zo); from 1131; to practise naked (in the games), i.e. train (figuratively) ,to exercise vigorously, in any way, either the body or the mind: KJV— exercise. (7)with covetous practices-4124 pleonexia (pleh-onex-ee’-ah);from 4123; avarice, i.e. (by implication) fraudulency, extortion, greedy desire to have more, covetousness, avarice: KJV— covetous (-ness) practices, greediness. Again, we do know that the Lord loves us, and has but one agenda; “2 Pet 3:7 But the

heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy (1)conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?” Definition: (1) all holy conversation-391 anastrophe (an-astrof-ay’); from 390; manner of life, conduct, behavior, deportment: KJV— conversation. Man MUST have his own agenda if he teaches not the things GOD has chosen, through Christ, and his apostles. The lifestyle for the Church that Christ is the head of (Eph.5:2324; Col.1:13-20) and is yet building (Acts 2:47), MUST be found in his apostles’ doctrine (Matt. 28:16-20; John17:17-21; Acts 1:1-4 and 2:41-42; 1Cor.11:1-3; 2Pet.3:1-2; 1John4:4-6). We MUST be very careful of what man teaches. We MUST check it by the WORD (1Thes.5:21-22) because, with FLESH, and with the FLESHLY EYE it might feel and look right, and with the CARNAL EAR it might even sound right. This brings us to the lesson, but before we get started, just as a scriptural reminder to those of us that profess Christianity, we MUST become new “SPIRITUAL” creatures in Christ Jesus; for with the carnal/fleshly (secular) mind we CANNOT PLEASE GOD (Rom.8:4-9). “2 Cor 5:16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now

henceforth know we him no more.17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” “Eph 4:20 But ye have not so learned Christ; 21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”(KJV) THE LESSO : There is a way which seemeth right unto a man Prov 14:12 There is (1)a way which seemeth (2)right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of (3)death. (KJV) Definitions: (1)a way-1870 derek (deh’-rek); from 1869; a road (as trodden); figuratively, a course of life or mode of action, often adverb: KJV— conversation, custom, a habit, a journey, a manner, a path, a direction, used of moral character. (2) seemeth right unto a man-3477 yashar (yaw-shawr’); straight (literally or figuratively): -convenient, equity, just, meet (-est), + pleased well, straight, (most) upright (-ly, -ness).straight, upright, correct, level, right, pleasing, correct straightforward, just, fitting, proper, uprightness, righteous, what is upright (substantive). (3)death-4194 maveth (maw’-veth); from 4191; death (natural or violent); concretely, the dead, their place or state (hades); figuratively, pestilence, ruin: KJV— (be) dead ([-ly]), death. Prov 14:12…There is a way which seemeth right unto a man … Ref. Scriptures: um 24:13 If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what the LORD saith, that will I speak? (KJV) Prov 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise. (KJV)

WHAT IS TRUTH? CONTINUED Prov 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. (KJV) Prov 30:12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness. (Please read also; 1Pet.3:21-22; Acts2: 36-47; 9:17-20; 22:13-17; Gal.3:27) Isa 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.(KJV) Jer 10:1 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: 2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. 3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. 4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. (KJV) Jer 10:23 O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. (KJV) Matt 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to (1)destruction, and (2)many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because (3)strait is the gate, and (4)narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that (5)find it. Definitions: (1)destruction-684 apoleia (ap-o’-li-a); from a presumed derivative of 622; ruin or loss (physical, spiritual or eternal): KJV— damnable (-nation), destruction, die, perdition, X perish, pernicious ways, waste.b) the destruction which consists of eternal misery in hell. (2)many4183 polus (pol-oos’); including the forms from the alternate pol-

los; (singular) much (in any respect) or (plural) many; neuter (singular) as adverbial, largely; neuter (plural) as adverb or noun often, mostly, largely: KJV— abundant, + altogether, common, many, much, oft (-en [-times]), plenteous. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. 21 ot every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. 24 Therefore whosoever heareth

these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. 28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: 29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. (KJV) Matt 28:16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.(KJV) Luke 16:13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 14 And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him. 15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for (1)that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.(KJV) Definition:(1)that which is highly esteemed 5308 hupselos (hoop-say-los’); from 5311; lofty (in place or character), 2) metaphorically, eminent, exalted a) in influence and honor b) to set the mind on, to seek, high things (as honors and riches), to be aspiring: KJV— high (-er, ly) (esteemed). John 14:5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we

know the way? 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (KJV) Acts 9:13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: 14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name. 15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: 16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake. 17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. 18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was (1)baptized. 19 And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus. 20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.(KJV) Definition: (1)baptized-907 baptizo (bap-tid’-zo); from a derivative of 911; to immerse, submerge; to make overwhelmed (i.e. fully wet); used only (in the N. T.) of ceremonial ablution, especially (technically) of the ordinance of Christian baptism: KJV— Baptist, baptize, wash. Acts 26:1 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Thou art permitted to speak for thyself. Then Paul stretched forth the hand, and answered for himself: 2 I think myself happy, king Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews: 3 Especially because I know thee to be expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews: wherefore I beseech thee to hear me patiently. 4 My manner of life from my youth, which was at the first among mine own nation at Jerusalem, know all the Jews; 5 Which knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that after the most straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee. also; Acts 22:13-16) Acts 26:9 I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of azareth. 10 Which thing I also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I gave my voice against them. 11 And I punished them oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange cities. 12 Whereupon as I went to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests, 13 At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me. 14 And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 15 And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest. 2 Cor 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be (1)reprobates? 6 But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates. 7 Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates. 8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth. 9 For we are glad, when we are weak, and ye are strong: and this also we wish, even your perfection. 10 Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction. 11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. (KJV) Definition: (1)reprobates-96 adokimos (ad-ok’-ee-mos); from 1 (as a negative particle) and 1384; unapproved, i.e. rejected; by implication, worthless (literally or morally): KJV— castaway, rejected, reprobate.

WHAT IS TRUTH? CONTINUED Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. 10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. 11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. 12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. 13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it: 14 And profited in the Jews’ religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers. 15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace, 16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood: (KJV) Eph 5:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. 3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; 4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. 5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. 6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. 7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them. 8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: 9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) 10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of

darkness, but rather reprove them. 12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. 13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. 14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. 15 See then that ye (1)walk (2)circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. 18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; 21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Difinitions: (1)walk-4043 peripateo-to walk: b) Hebrew for, to live 1) to regulate one’s life 2) to conduct oneself 3) to pass one’s life. (2)circumspectly-199 akribos-exactly, accurately, diligently

around, i.e. walk at large (especially as proof of ability); figuratively, to live, deport oneself, follow (as a companion or votary), 1) to regulate one’s life 2) to conduct oneself 3) to pass one’s life: KJV— go, be occupied with, walk (about).James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be ye DOERS OF THE WORD, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, BUT A DOER OF THE WORK, this man shall be blessed in his deed. 26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain. 27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is

this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself (1)unspotted from the (2)world. Definitions: (1)unspotted from784 aspilos (as’-pee-los); from 1 (as a negative particle) and 4695; unblemished (physically or morally), 2) metaphorically, a) free from censure, irreproachable b) free from vice, unsullied: KJV— without spot, unspotted. (2)the world 2889 kosmos (kos’-mos); probably from the base of 2865; orderly arrangement, i.e. decoration; by implication, the world (in a wide or narrow sense, including its inhabitants, literally or figuratively [morally]) 6) the ungodly multitude; the whole mass of men alienated from God, and therefore hostile to the cause of Christ 7) world affairs, the aggregate of things earthly the whole circle of earthly goods, endowments riches, advantages, pleasures, etc., which although hollow and frail and fleeting, stir desire, seduce from God and are obstacles to the cause of Christ: KJV— adorning, world.

these articles is to seek the TRUTH according to THE WORD, thereby exposing ERROR, which is false doctrine, for the purpose of saving our souls. We believe this is best done by definitions and the PREPONDERANCE OF SCRIPTURES; which is having superior weight, force, importance, or influence of SCRIPTURE. Again we believe this allows SCRIPTURE to INTERPRET SCRIPTURE, thereby allowing a better understanding on that topic. ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

MONTREAL SCOTT-PV Senior guard Montreal Scott from Dallas Madison high school is making a name for himself at PV. Scott scored 16 points on 5 of 10 shooting including 2 of 3 from Down Town to lead the Panthers past TSU 58-55. Using a balanced attack the Panthers jumped on the Tigers early and never let up. “We practiced to stay uniform and that’s play well together and good defense”. Scott admitted sometimes their big guys push them to get on the boards more but at the end of the day they get the job done. “I’ve been here four years and our big guys do a great job of keeping people out of the lane and we pressure in the backcourt making it tough for teams to get their offense going“. When asked about the

big crowd of more than 7,500 fans at the H and P E Arena. “We don’t play to the crowd but some of our younger players might have been a little excited but for the veterans on this team we knew what we had to do and just went out there and got it done”. The Panthers are on the right track and Scott feels the Panthers are tough to beat when they are hitting on all cylinders. “I feel if we play up to our ability no team in the SWAC can play with us”. The big crowd didn’t get the Panthers rattled like it would have for some teams. “Some of our new guys thought man it’s packed in here, but the veterans told them don’t worry about that just play your game do what we came here to

do”. Scott went on to say Reggis makes us work hard he was getting the guards about not getting rebounds this morning at the shoot-a-round, but we know what he means to us as well as out other big guys”. Adding when Reggis plays his game the sky is the limit for the Panthers as a team. The senior from Dallas went on to say he feels they are on a roll and it could lead them back to the SWAC tournament title game again.
