This grand natural harbour in Mahón offers an excellent walk where you can admire the views.

TEATRO PRINCIPAL Maó cuenta con una gran afición músical y el teatro de ópera más antiguo de España. Construido en 1829 y reformado en 2001.

Mahón is very found of music and has the oldest opera house in Spain. Built in 1829 and renovated in 2001.

SANTA MARIA La principal iglesia de la ciudad, ubicada junto al Ayuntamiento, es de estilo gótico y ofrece conciertos con un gran órgano de 1810.

NAVETA DES TUDONS El monumento funerario prehistórico más famoso. Tiene una forma de nave invertida que sólo se encuentra en Menorca y se construyó juntando grandes piedras en seco, sin mortero.

The most famous prehistoric funerary monument. Its shape is an inverted nave that is only found in Minorca and was built by gathering large stones, no mortar was used.

Iglesia construida en el siglo XIV (aunque había otra anterior) sobre un cerro, lo que la convierte en el edificio más destacado del pueblo.

Pequeña ermita del siglo XVIII ubicada junto a un parque del mismo nombre. No celebra misas pero sí eventos religiosos especiales.

Church built in the 14th century (although there was another one) on a hill, which makes it the most outstanding building of the town.

Small chapel from the 18th century located next to a park with the same name. It does not give Mass but it does hold special religious events.

Es el claustro del antiguo convento franciscano de San Diego, fundado en 1623 y habitado por los frailes hasta 1835.

Ubicado en un antiguo cuartel militar británico del siglo XVIII, muestra la historia defensiva y las fortificaciones de la isla.

Aunque gran parte del que fuera uno de los mejores castillos defensivos de Europa está demolido, se pueden visitar sus largos túneles.

Set in a former 18th century British military barracks, it shows the defensive history and the island’s fortifications.

Although much of what was one of the best defensive castles in Europe is demolished, you can still visit its long tunnels.

Esta iglesia neoclásica la empezaron a construir los franceses en 1760 durante el breve período en que dominaron la isla.

El molino de viento restaurado es como un emblema del pueblo y se puede visitar el museo etnológico que se ha habilitado en su interior.

This neoclassical church was built by the French in 1760 during the brief period in which they ruled the island.

The restored windmill is like a symbol for the village and you can visit the ethnological museum that can been found in its interior.

Created in the 60s, this village copied the look of the fisherman’s villages, but it is just as popular and picturesque that it deserves a visit.

SANT MARTÍ Junto con el molino cercano, la iglesia de Sant Martí dibuja el perfil del pueblo más céntrico de la isla. Aunque el templo es más antiguo, el edificio actual se construyó y amplió entre finales del XVIII y principios del XIX. Along with the nearby mill, the church of Saint Martin characterises the island’s most central town. Although the temple is older, the current building was built and expanded between the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

La principal iglesia del pueblo, del siglo XVIII, es un buen punto de partida para hacer un recorrido a pie por el tranquilo casco antiguo.

Dividido por colores de rocas, este museo muestra la gran diversidad y riqueza geológica de Menorca, y como ésta condiciona el paisaje.

Esta pequeña y sencilla iglesia construida en el siglo XVIII puede ser punto de inicio de un paseo por el casco urbano del pueblo.

Una de las cuevas más impresionantes de la isla, con 24 metros de altura y 110 de profundidad, escondida en el barranco de Binigaus.

This small and simple church was built in the 18th century and can be the starting point to a stroll through the centre of the village.

One of the most breath-taking caves on the island, that measures 24 metres high and 110 metres deep, hidden in the Binigaus ravine.

Es un antiguo lavadero público rehabilitado.

Lo mejor es el paseo que se puede hacer desde aquí, con bonitas vistas al campo y al pueblo.

Este poblado talayótico es uno de los más monumentales. Cuenta con dos talayots, un poblado de ocho casas y otras construcciones.

An old rehabilitated public washhouse. The best part is the walk that can be taken from here, with beautiful views of the countryside and of the village.

La alimentación tiene un gran impacto sobre la salud. Empieza por hacer pequeños cambios que te lleven a una dieta más equilibrada. Come una gran cantidad de cereales integrales, legumbres, frutas y verduras. Limita el consumo de carne roja y alimentos con mucha sal, y evita las bebidas azucaradas y la carne procesada.

Se calcula que un nivel elevado de actividad física puede disminuir la incidencia de 13 tipos distintos de cáncer. Actívate a diario y limita el tiempo que pasas sentado. La recomendación mínima es hacer media hora de ejercicio cinco veces por semana (o un total de 150 minutos semanales) y 60 minutos al día en caso de niños y adolescentes.

Food has a great impact on one’s health.

Start by making small changes that will lead you to a more balanced diet. Eat a lot of whole grains, legumes, fruits and vegetables. Limit your consumption of red meat and salty foods, and avoid sugary drinks and processed meat.

It is estimated that a high level of physical activity can decrease one’s chance of 13 different types of cancer. Get active daily and limit the time you spend sitting down. Tanto al inicio como a lo largo del recorrido hay indicaciones y paneles que explican las características de los bosques de la isla. Aunque la finca es muy extensa y tiene una gran variedad de paisajes, se puede hacer un recorrido circular de pocos kilómetros y disfrutar de su diversidad de flora y fauna.

Destaca el bosque de encinas, con ejemplares de más de 10 metros de altura que cobijan un interior sombreado, húmedo y con algunos torrentes. En cuanto a la fauna, se pueden observar aves (entre ellas el milano); mamíferos (conejos, erizos, lirones, martas menorquinas) y reptiles (tortuga mediterránea).

Species

El pequeño municipio de Es Migjorn Gran cuenta con una larga tradición de expertos zapateros que desde hace décadas saben elaborar todo tipo de calzado de gran calidad.

En esta localidad es donde nace en 1998 la empresa MIBO Cosits, fundada por Miguel Pascual y Bosco Moll, dedicada casi exclusivamente a la elaboración, venta y distribución de abarcas menorquinas.

En su fábrica del polígono industrial de Es Migjorn Gran, que cuenta con una tienda, se producen una gran variedad de modelos.

The small municipality of Es Migjorn Gran has a long tradition of expert shoemakers who have known for decades how to make all kinds of high quality footwear. This is where the MIBO Cosits company was founded in 1998 by Miguel Pascual and Bosco Moll, almost exclusively dedicated to the manufacturing, sale and distribution of the Minorcan abarcas. In its factory in the industrial estate of Es Migjorn Gran is where a great variety of models are produced and a shop is located.

Antiguamente se fabricaban con pieles de ganado y, tras la llegada de los coches, sus suelas se hacían con goma de ruedas viejas. Hoy en día MIBO utiliza cuero o piel de vacuno, además de otros materiales como tela, esparto o trenzado de rafia; las suelas son de caucho.

La abarca menorquina es muy popular por ser un calzado resistente, ligero y cómodo.
