GAMG Newsletter

On January 28th, in an attempt to raise awareness for their environmental and social beliefs, a social activist group named Riposte Alimentaire threw soup at the Mona Lisa. Outrage Over Plan to Restore Giza

Pyramids

Recently, a project was put in motion to restore one of the Giza Pyramids by reconstructing its granite casing. Although this plan is backed by the Egyptian government and Japanese archaeologists, archaeologists are outraged. They believe that modern hands should not be touching the structures of history, and have even compared it to straightening the Tower of Pisa.

Wool and Koons in Focus

For three weeks, the New York federal court debated Rybolovlev vs Sotheby's, and it has finally concluded. In this lawsuit, Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev claims that Sotheby's Auction House helped an art buyer defraud him, by overcharging him over one billion dollars for 38 works of art. Sotheby's responded by claiming that Rybolovlev was defrauded, but by art buyer Yves Bouvier, not Sotheby's. This argument must have rang true because Sotheby's won the lawsuit.

ART FAIRS ART SG

ART SG returned to Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands Resort and Convention Center. Although it was only their second year as an art fair, they already had a 30% decrease in exhibitors from last year and were missing many big blue chip artists from their roster. Many galleries reported slightly disappointing sales, but that does not mean it was not a success. Works by artists including David Salle and Anselm Kiefer were sold to prominent collectors and proved that it was worth having an art fair in Singapore, even if it isn't the top-selling event of the year.
