The Emerson Experience The culture and educational experience at Emerson is unlike that of any other institution. Guided by an award-winning faculty of acclaimed authors, theater directors, filmmakers, speech clinicians, political commentators, and specialists in nearly every sphere of communication and the arts, our students are provided with an unparalleled academic experience. As a transfer student, you will jump right into your discipline, building a basis for your future as a leader in communication or the arts.

This past fall, we welcomed 155 transfer students to our campus. They came from other four-year colleges and universities as well as two-year community colleges.

Some had completed a semester or full year of coursework, while others had earned an associate’s degree and were seeking to continue in a four-year program.

Who is considered a transfer student? International Transfer Students At Emerson, a transfer student is anyone with a high school diploma or GED (General Equivalency Diploma) who has earned 9 or more college credits or who has enrolled full time at another college.

If you earned your college credits prior to high school graduation (e.g., dual enrollment), you will be considered a first-year applicant.

Living in Boston

Financing Your Emerson Education

While Emerson does offer some on-campus housing for transfer and upperclass students, it is limited and on a space-available basis. Our Office of Off-Campus Student Services provides assistance in finding roommates as well as locating apartments throughout the city. Boston is home to hundreds of thousands of college students, which means there are many housing options to choose from. Additionally, with Emerson’s location in the heart of the city, you are never more than a few steps from the “T” (Boston’s subway system), making for a short trip back home after class.

We are committed to making an Emerson education as accessible as possible for our students. Through scholarships; federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs; and payment plan options, we strive to help families manage the cost of an Emerson education.

Next Step Emerson Scholarship The Next Step Emerson Scholarship offers graduates from select community colleges the opportunity to apply for a $26,000/year scholarship toward full-time attendance at Emerson College.

2020 PTK Honor Society The 2020 PTK Honor Society offers students who are PTK Honor Students at any accredited community college the opportunity to receive a $8,000/year merit-based scholarship toward full-time attendance at Emerson College.
