Support your local shops and businesses. These are strange times. And a lot of people have, all of a sudden, 'discovered' local shops again - those that care, that deliver and have adapted to serve our communities. And this is great because the High Street we have when this is all over, will be a direct reflection of how people have shopped over the lockdown time. If you want your high street to be full of those great independent shops, go looking for them online. You've got time! (See our list over the page) Seek out what is good in your city. Find them on social media, share a post, see if they sell online. Because when you buy from them, it's another sale that helps toward keeping them afloat. And that means the world to them. If you have to shop online, type in what you want, add a comma and type in ELY. That way you will see if you can buy it locally. Its called the 'google comma’. Then share what you find with your friends. Supporting local businesses at this time means they will still be there when lock-down is over. and that makes our Ely a better place.

HOW SMALL BUSINESSES ARE VITAL TO OUR COMMUNITIES AT A TIME OF NATIONAL EMERGENCY

A

s the UK works together to overcome the coronavirus pandemic crisis, small businesses across the country are proving how much they’re at the heart of our communities – pulling together in extraordinary ways to help others. From unexpectedly adapting their business capabilities so they can produce much-needed personal protective equipment (PPE) or hand sanitiser; to offering free food and drink to key workers in the NHS, or helping the most at-risk groups from the new coronavirus by providing them with supplies. There are many examples.

T

he vast majority of small businesses contribute to their local community or to charity. It is no surprise that so many small businesses – who are able to - are going above-and-beyond to adapt and innovate to play their part in dealing with this national emergency, despite, in many cases, facing challenges themselves.
