ACCESS JOURNAL ROSARIO 2012 Call Summer Sessions

January - February, 2012

During January and February students attended classes at Aricana Headquarters in order to have intensive computer-assisted sessions at the Multimedia Lab and special classes with video and Power Point Presentations using the interactive whiteboard.

The

four Access courses were divided into two groups and took turns working either in the lab or in the video room. They really enjoyed the classes as they were learning in a dynamic and interactive way and showed amazing computer skills.

The topics of the video lessons were really interesting and students showed great enthusiasm when watching movies such as Shrek, Valentine’s Day or the pilot episode from the popular tv series Lost. Students also learned about holidays from the USA and from their own country, for example, Martin Luther King’s Day and Veteran’s Day.

ACCESS JOURNAL ROSARIO 2012 English for Journalists

June 5, 2012

On June 5 Access students from second year took part in the workshop “English for journalists” conducted by Paulina Schmidt, a freelance journalist for La Capital newspaper. On this occasion, students learned about the process of how the news story comes to being and the importance of the different means of communication in our every day lives. Paulina shared her experience as a journalist with the students, telling them about all her jobs and places where she has worked over the years. Students enjoyed this workshop very much and they were ‘journalists’ themselves when they had to interview their partners to learn more about what each of them had learned from the workshop. During the presentation, members of the USA Embassy visited the class and interacted with students and Paulina.

What was the presentation about? “It was about journalism. Paulina talked about her life as a journalist, about her job in the newspaper and on TV. She also talked about the means of communication (internet, TV, newspaper, radio).” David Lombardo – interviewed by Pablo Bordón

One of the activities was held at the Library, where students were asked to look for information in books about important people and places related to the Independence processes of both countries. Then, they wrote the information they found on maps. In the mean time, another group was working in a different classroom with a Power Point Presentation about the independence of the United States and how Americans usually celebrate it today. Devon Arndt, an American girl, was also present during the activities and told students a bit more about this celebration, its importance and what she likes to do on that day.
