As an interior design student at the University of Oklahoma, Ellie Hughes has cultivated a passion for blending creativity with impactful design. Drawn to the field for its unique ability to shape both the built environment and those who inhabit it, Ellie is committed to creating spaces that elevate everyday experiences. Through an internship with idGROUP in Dallas, TX, she gained valuable hands-on experience in project management, commercial design, and client collaboration, all while honing the art of teamwork. With an eye toward functionality and aesthetics, Ellie is eager to bring innovative solutions to the field, aiming to inspire and support communities through thoughtful, transformative spaces.
CONCEPT
Inspired by the facets of a gemstone, 'The Jewel' chair is a flexible and modular seating solution that captures both elegance and versatility. Its geometric form and sharp lines mimic the angles and cuts of a precious jewel, making it a statement piece for any space. Designed to be as adaptable as it is beautiful.
MATERIALITY
The Jewel is a striking piece of furniture art, crafted from premium plywood and fully upholstered for a seamless, dimensional look. Its abstract design features interlocking shapes that flow together to create bold, dramatic contours. The cushioned seat and back offer exceptional comfort, with an option to expand into a two-piece arrangement for an even more luxurious lounging experience.
The Jewel is wrapped in performance-quality velvet upholstery, offered in a range of opulent, jeweltoned hues to capture light, achieving a dimensional sheen that enhances its sculptural form. The carefully placed seams along the edges provide a defined contour, creating a faceted appearance reminiscent of a finely cut gem.
