Josha Stradowski and Daniel Henney star in “The Wheel of Time”

By Sarah Passingham

He’s got the whole world in his hands. In the much-anticipated third season of the expansive fantasy series, “The Wheel of Time,” premiering Thursday, March 13, on Prime Video, the Dragon Reborn contends with dark threats against the light as the last battle looms on the path ahead.

Once simply a shepherd from the village of Emond’s Field, Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski, “Gran Turismo,” 2023) has proven himself to be the prophesied Dragon Reborn, a powerful figure with the ability to either save the world from the Dark One or break it again. Rand was discovered by Moiraine Damodred (Rosamund Pike, “Saltburn,” 2023), an Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah, a matriarchal

order committed to protect humanity and heal it from the devastation brought on by the last Dark One. This season, Moiraine and Rand, tragically tethered in every timeline that lies ahead of them, must face an agonizing reality.

“I have seen a thousand thousand futures. In every future where I lived, Rand dies,” Moiraine narrates over a montage of possible ends in the official teaser trailer for the upcoming season.

“The only way he lives is if I don’t,” she makes very clear.

The future of humanity rests on Rand’s survival and the choice he must make between darkness and light.

As he grows stronger, the darkness begins to turn his head away from the light and his allies, Moiraine and Egwene al’Vere (Madeleine Madden, “Pine Gap”). Per

Prime Video, “these powerful women, who started the series as teacher and student, must now work together to prevent the Dragon from turning to the Dark...no matter the cost.”

Also starring in “The Wheel of Time” are Daniel Henney (“Criminal Minds”) as al’Lan Mandragoran; Zoe Robins (“Black Christmas,” 2019) as Nynaeve al’Meara; Marcus Rutherford (“Funny Woman”) as Perrin Aybara; Donal Finn (“Rogue Heroes”) as Mat Cauthon; Ceara Coveney (“Young Wallander”) as Elayne Trakand; Kate Fleetwood (“Scoop,” 2024) as Liandrin Guirale; Natasha O’Keeffe (“Peaky Blinders”) as Lanfear; Ayoola Smart (“Juliet, Naked,” 2018) as Aviendha; and Kae Alexander (“Collateral”) as Min Farshaw. In Focus

“Home Is Where the Heart Is” - Season 1 (Hallmark+ — March 20, Series Premiere)

Actor Luke Macfarlane is trading in his scripts for a hard hat as he picks up the reins of this new reality series. In each episode, Macfarlane visits a family’s once-glorious house that has either been inherited or holds special meaning to them. With designer Olivia Westbrooks, Macfarlane and their team work to seamlessly blend the past and the present, creating a beautiful family dream home that feels refreshed and welcoming, but maintains the heart, love, and charm that has been present inside its walls for decades.

“The Residence” (Netflix — March 20, Limited Series Premiere) 132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous State Dinner. This screwball whodunnit is set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion. Uzo Aduba, Randall Park, Giancarlo Esposito, Edwina Findley, Molly Griggs and Ken Marino star.

After a brief retirement, Matty Matlock (Kathy Bates) has re-entered the workforce, using her unassuming demeanor, wit and wily tactics to win cases for her prestigious law firm and reestablish herself as a powerhouse lawyer. Unbeknownst to her colleagues, however, Matty possesses a secret that could take the firm down from within. “Matlock” airs a new episode this Thursday, March 13, on CBS, with past episodes available to stream online, at cbs.com/shows/matlock/

With nine episodes remaining, Uncle Baby Billy (Walton Goggins), Jesse (Danny McBride) and Judy (Eli Patterson) still have plenty of stories to tell, and plenty of sermons to give. The best televangelist action-comedy series around, “The Righteous Gemstones,” premieres its fourth and final season this Sunday, March 9, on HBO. “Grease” is still the word

“Grease” always will be timeless, and for good reason. Being shown by Freeform on Monday, March 10, and Tuesday, March 11, the 1978 screen version of the hit stage musical unapologetically presents actors who clearly are well beyond their high school years as ... high schoolers. The audience is in on the joke from the start, though, so the Randal Kleiser-directed picture’s campy undercurrent is a huge part of its appeal. John Travolta did the show in live theater with a touring company, and he returned here as cooler-than-cool gang member Danny Zuko, who lets his guard down during a summer fling with the virtuous Sandy (depicted as an overseas exchange student to accommodate Olivia Newton-John, a charmer in her first major film role). Later, Danny is stunned to find Sandy has transferred to be one of his fellow pupils at Rydell High — where he puts up a charade to try to keep others from discovering his softer side. Stockard Channing, Jeff Conaway and Dinah Manoff also are prominent in the cast; memorable songs include “Summer Nights” and (composed for the film) “You’re the One That I Want.”

“The House of Hanna-Barbera” (MeTV Toons, Sundays through Fridays): A number of the animation house’s classic characters are fueling this franchise that combines cartoons featuring such figures as Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Secret Squirrel, Magilla Gorilla, Atom Ant and Wally Gator. Though producers William Hanna and Joseph Barbera may have had their greatest TV successes with the series “The Flintstones,” “The Jetsons” and “Jonny Quest,” many other animated personalities were in their stable, and this is a nice showcase for them.
