Stop the BNP in the Euro Elections: Proposer: Andrew Barlow Seconder: Mark Bergfeld This Union Believes: 1. The BNP is a Fascist Organisation that believes in an all white Britain.

2. The BNP have worryingly won support in recent elections. Notably winning a seat in the London Assembly 3. The BNP won 7% of the vote in the Highwoods ward in Colchester in May 2008.

4. The BNP are planning on holding their infamous ‘Red, White & Blue’ Festival in Essex, this August 5. The BNP will be standing in many constituencies in the Euro elections in 2009.

6. In the current economic climate, there is a real danger the BNP’s will gain ideas as people look to scapegoat immigrants for societal problems.

This Union Further Believes: 1. Students have always played a role in fighting fascism.

2. Last year Essex students attended the protest at the Oxford Union, making front page news, nationally. In addition students from Essex led the campaign against the BNP in Highwoods.

3. Unite Against Fascism and Love Music Hate Racism activists will be campaigning in the Euro Elections to persuade people not to vote for the BNP. 4. The BNP are no-platformed according to the Constitution of The University of Essex Students’ Union.

5. There will be a counter protest to the BNP’s ‘Red White and Blue’ Festival in August.

This Union Resolves: 1. To provide transport for students to campaign against the BNP in the Euro Elections.

2. To work with local UAF and LMHR groups in this campaigning.

3. To help organise against the ‘Red White and Blue’ Festival.

4. To affiliate to Love Music Hate Racism. (Ratified by Union Council) 5. To Hold a LMHR Event in the Third Term.
