Caudle

I am a second year architecture student at the University of Waterloo seeking a four month co-op placement from January to April 2023.
I believe architecture plays a crucial role in shaping the human experience. I am passionate about exploring the relationship between architecture and ecology, using social and environmental context to guide design.
I continue to develop my skills, I look forward to new challenges and the opportunity to enrich my knowledge in architecture while contributing to the success of your firm.

This library provides children and youth in the city the opportunity to use and learn about a broad range of technology that they may not otherwise have access to. A hingeless kinetic facade inspired by the opening and closing mechanism of the Bird of Paradise flower clads the South elevation. The unique exterior reflects the program of the library, drawing the community in and demonstrating the capabilities of technology in the built environment. This library strives to strengthen the connection between nature and technology while inviting young people to build crucial literacy skills and be curious about cutting edge technologies that will carry us into the future.

access
The Toronto Islands are home to bike trails, parks and beaches and can provide an escape from bustling city life for residents and visitors. Despite being less than two kilometers from the mainland, for those who do not own a boat and cannot afford the cost of the public ferry it may as well be on another continent. The Eatern Entry is a steel bridge spanning the 300m distance across Lake Ontario, connecting Toronto’s port along the Cherry Beach path to Ward’s Island. As a public park the Toronto Islands should be accessible to all, and the Eastern Entry makes this dream a reality.

An exploration of experience and materiality at an intimate scale, this bridge plays with ways in which they are intertwined. The Nestling Bridge creates a moment of pause along a hiking trail, a point at which the user will stop and take in the view of Sherman Falls where they feel safe and relaxed, immersed in the natural world. Taking inspiration from organic forms, the structure experiments with curves in both plan and section by utilizing properties of modern engineered wood products. The use of a material associated with nature allows the bridge to nestle comfortably into the site and enhance feelings that theenvironment evokes - comfort, tranquility and reflection.

Communal Living for Youth
Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

Forming strong healthy relationships is a crucial component of happiness and stability in one’s life, especially for young people as they begin to come into adulthood. On this site four houses make up one small communal living complex for youth in transition, each with private accommodations for two as well as a shared space. The Gathering Spot facilitates connection between residents of the site, encouraging gathering in the casual home theater, reading room and outdoor terraces. Although spread out over four floors, the various spaces in the house are tied together by a central staircase and central void space bringing light to the lower floors.

The relationship between materials and form is a crucial element of design. Through imaginary architecture Treehouse experiments with cast concrete and different types of wood to contrast and compliment. A forest is a symbol of strength and peace. With a heavy base connected to a finely detailed structure by a staircase carved into it’s ‘tree’, Treehouse is an architectural interpretation of these qualities. It aims to spark curiosity and remind one of the joy that comes from exploring architectural ideas.
