It’s gonna be a great year!! See, I told you you’d hear that again! Do you people know what a great Corp of Officer’s you have? They’re amazing. I welcome you to Chair of the Exalted Ruler, whose mo o is Fidelity. Before I do anything else, I want to once again congratulate our Ritual Team for placing FIRST in our division. I couldn’t be prouder of them. If you haven’t already done so, let them know that you appreciate their hard work and how proud you are of them, I have.

Now, let’s talk about the obliga on you took when you became a member. You, probably like me, didn’t have a dang clue what the officer’s were saying when you were standing in front of them. But IF I were si ng at my office at the bar when you got out, I would have said to you, ‘You really need to come to an Ini a on and HEAR what we really say’. Have you done that? If not, please do, it’s really a very moving ceremony. At the sta on of Fidelity, the Exalted Ruler states, ‘… that the Members of this Lodge have deemed you worth of their confidence. I trust that you may con nue to merit their approval, and become true and faithful members among us.’ What is a true and faithful member? One who comes in on a Friday night and drinks? Yup, it helps our coffers. But what about stepping up and becoming a true and faithful member to the lodge? To con nue, ‘Our me upon the stage of ac on is but brief…’ People, you joined this lodge to help us be a be er place and to do our duty as members, to be charitable to all mankind. You can’t do that if you’re si ng at home or at the bar complaining about what’s wrong with this lodge. You’re me is brief. Help us make it be er by becoming involved now.

You may be asking how you can become more involved? Take a look at page two of this Elkhorn… right there to the le of this ar cle. You’ll see a list of the Lodge Officers. Below each, is a list of Commi ees that Officer has responsibility to either chair or find a volunteer that will step up and become a true and faithful member. Look at the second posi on under Allen’s Chair; Elks Na onal Founda on. Allen’s name is listed there. That is because last year Bernie Dennis held that posi on. Bernie is now the 5th Year Trustee and with that posi on came a much greater strain on his me. This required him to decline the Commi ee Chairmanship this year, leaving us our only op on of pu ng the name of the Chair Officer in there as a placeholder, making them Chairman for that Commi ee. What does that mean to you? We need a Chairman for that Commi ee! Take a second look at the en re list. Do you see something there that peeks your interest? Do you see where your name could replace the Chair Officer’s? No? How about just helping on one of these commi ee’s. Most of these folks could use some help. Contact that Officer and let them know you would like to help. But there are also other non‐commi ee places you can help. You know, unless you’re a NEW member and didn’t see my ar cles as Leading Knight, you can always help with Bingo. How about spending a couple of hours being a greeter or helping in the office? We could use some help in both of those areas. Call Dorothy and let her know that you have a li le free me and what days you can help. She also has other volunteer opportuni es, so look at your free me and talk to the Officer or Dorothy. No ma er when you volunteer, the folks in charge will appreciate the help and you’ll feel be er helping the lodge… it’s a great feeling by the way.

A lot of things happening this month at our lodge. Check the other Officer’s ar cles for more details on some of those. June 6th, our State Vice President, Sco Stephens, will visit our lodge. It would sure be nice if our seats were filled with members for this Tuesday mee ng. Mike Flynn, Inner Guard, will be presen ng a Flag Day Program on June 13th, which is an Open Mee ng, so bring your family and friends. June 18th, Tony Rodella, 4th Year Trustee, has a great BBQ planned for Fathers day. See, I told you we’d have fun, so come join us. I hope to see you guys at one of our Ini a ons this year, at the many events we have planned this month and/or talking to an Officer about ge ng more involved. It’s gonna be a great year for our lodge! Come help us with that.

Your Exalted Ruler, Buck Kuhns 2

Another BIG THANKS to all of you who brought in your filled "Purple Pigs" in April. Let me remind you how important it is to fill up your purple pig. The Purple Pig is the fundraising arm of the California‐ Hawaii Elks Associa on Major Project, Inc. (CHEMPI).

The guys at Broadway House were excited to receive the prepara ons for a ham dinner for Easter. As you can see from the picture they were ready to dig in to ham, potatoes, green beans, fresh fruit and beans. Dessert was not forgo en, they had their choice of cheesecake or chocolate cake.

The California‐Hawaii Elks have raised over $116.2 MILLION since 1950 to address the unmet needs of children with disabili es by developing a program of suppor ng services to aid these children at no cost to their families. Santa Ana Elks Travel Club MYSTERY TRIP MAY 10, 2017

We are fortunate to have several new people join our club for this trip. I love the ques ons they ask the long me travelers. “When do we know where we a going? Will he tell us when we get on the bus?” And in unison the reply is NO! At mes, it is a mystery trip for Jim. Plan “B” is always available. This me we ar‐ rived at our des na on, Li le Italy in San Diego, forty five minutes early. We had me for an unscheduled stop at the newly restored 1936 San Diego Police Depart‐ ment turned into a Mall, for rest rooms. It is really a nice place complete with shopping, dining, jail cells and a police museum. And now the main a rac on, we were off to see our old friends at Filippi’s Pizza Gro o. Wai ng for us was a wonderful An ‐Pasta Salad. I could have filled up with that, but then who could pass up those terrific Pizzas that kept coming. We fin‐ ished up with trays of homemade Italian cookies. All the me we were entertained with live music and Italian Folk dancing. The final event was a bus tour of Li le Italy including a narra on from our guide on the history of Li le Italy before heading back to Santa Ana. Edie Tobin

Charity is alive and thriving at Lodge 794. Thanks to the efforts of our Bingo volunteer staff in making our weekly Bingo a "go‐to" event in the Santa Ana area, we have been able to accumulate some significant funds for worthy purposes. This new year we have already supported the Santa Ana Police's canine unit with a contribu on as well as funding a school project for homeless children ini ated by a grandson of one of our members which was reported last month in the Elkhorn In addi on we are con nuing our purchase program of student Chromebooks ini ated last year. This program replaces our long running dic onary purchase program and is geared to the more technology‐savy students of today. We have been able to again set aside $10,000 for the program this year. We have also been able to make a major contribu on to our local Wally Dietrich student awards program. We expect about 500 guests to see the awarding of of plaques, trophies and two scholarships in early June. There are several other programs in the pipeline and we are looking forward to a spectacular "elks care‐elks share" year. Inputs from our members are always welcome.
