The 2019 Adult Summer Reading Program in honor of EGVPL’s 60th Anniversary We are digging up the (metaphorical) time capsule from Elk Grove’s first library to see what’s inside. The year was 1959 and Elk Grove Village was a fresh, new suburb. The U.S. was in a space race with the U.S.S.R., Hawaii had just been named our 50th state, and our President of the United States was Dwight D. Eisenhower. This year’s Adult Summer Reading Program features 11 categories based on these and other important events of 1959. How to Participate: 1. Sign up and receive a log sheet at the Adult Reference Desk. Your log sheet stays at the library for you to record books as you read them. 2. When you complete 5 books from 5 different categories, you receive a free Adult Summer Reading T-Shirt. 3. For every book you read, you receive a raffle ticket to enter in the prize bucket of your choice. Prizes include dozens of gift cards from local businesses. 4. Continue reading and earning prize tickets all summer until Sunday, September 8. We will announce prize winners at our Summer Reading Finale on Sunday, September 15.
