THIS IS MY FAVORITE ISSUE OF ELIZABETHTOWN LIFESTYLE YET. Our cover feature is Fabulous Female Professionals, and I am so inspired by the stories of so many boss babes here in Hardin County. Elaina Janes and I literally met with and photographed 70+ women in leadership roles within the community. With everyone stuck in the house, you may be thinking of renovations or even moving—check out Hardin County Home Buying at Its Finest and Rules for Renovations. May is Derby in our hearts, and between recipes by HMH’s Chef Eric Metcalf and gorgeous decor from FINE House & Garden, we’ve got you covered. At least we can look forward to the Fourth of July; we’ve included festive ideas and kid’s crafts to be sure you’re ready.

We can make a little order where we are, and then the big sweep of history on which we can have no effect doesn’t overwhelm us. We do it with colors, with a garden, with the furnishings of a room, or with sounds and words. We make a little form, and we gain composure. — Robert Frost

The Kentucky Derby is a time-honored tradition and the perfec t opportunity to decorate your home. Tying in thoroughbred-themed details is simple, especially if you choose neutral options like the ones shown. Each piece adds a Derby icon with an effortless feel—you may even want to keep them out all season long.

what to wear IN SPRING:
local fashion inspo Type A Style
Photography: Susan Butterworth Photography Shopping local this spring? I am here for it; nothing boosts my mood like a fresh, new outfit and accessories to match. I’m Amanda Burris, a fashion guru and selftaught designer. I approach fashion & interior design with a frugal eye, and I love sharing my awesome finds through my lifestyle blog, Type A Style. I’ve compiled some of my favorite looks for spring— No need to drive to Louisville. All of the looks can be purchased at your favorite local boutiques; some even offer online shopping and free local delivery. I’m a proud wife of a local police officer and mommy to Maverick Dean and his furbrother, Bentley. Follow along as I find my way through life, one outfit at a time! www.typeastyle.com Instagram: @type.a.style Facebook: @typeastyledesign Amanda V. Burris
To The Nines
My favorite way to add flair to any look is with leopard. Wearing one piece with this fun print can transform a simple blouse into a chic outfit. Pair with a statement necklace and ankle booties, and you can 54 consider yourself a fashionista.

Raiment + Boon

Simplicity is always stylish. This blush belted tulle dress is a perfect option for Mother’s Day brunch, graduation ceremony, or a spring wedding. Its elegance speaks for itself, so a leopard heel and simple pearl stud earrings are all that’s needed.
Lady Lu’s
“If it’s not moving, monogram it!” said every southern woman. Sass up a simple embroidered tee with a fun kimono, distressed jeans, and a trendy hat. Knotting a tee at the hip not only defines the waist but adds texture to a basic top.
Merle Norman
I am so ready for a vacation! What better way to soak in the rays and warm temperatures than in a bright, floral dress. Every girl needs a denim jacket in their closet. Drape it over your spring dress for a stylish look when the nights get cool.
That Cute Little Shop
Derby may have been postponed, but outfit planning for it doesn’t have to be. Don’t be afraid to go for some nontraditional colors for this new timeline. Let the headpiece speak for itself; pair it with a solid textured dress, and you will stand out at the race of the south.
59
Swanky Shoppe
A tweed dress is the ultimate southern-staple, and this pink version is perfect for Oaks Day. Accessories are what make an outfit stand out. A classy fascinator, statement earrings, a fun clutch, and some equestrian-themed bangles will make you ready to be one with the fillies!
Brandi’s Boutique
‘Tis the season for some outdoor concerts! A flowy chiffon dress will keep you stylin’ and cool while dancing the night away on a warm evening. Boots are a necessity, along with a fun crossbody bag to help keep together all your essentials.
Walker Lane

Distressed boyfriend jeans are my recent obsession. They are trendy and flattering to all body types. Completed with a knotted tank, a fun striped cardigan, and some neutral accessories and you are ready for a shopping date with some girlfriends.
Denizen
With spring comes outdoor festivals and late-night bonfires. These laid-back events call for something casual. Paired with jeans, loafers, and a stylish fedora hat, this neutral tank and loose cardigan set would be the perfect comfy option for all shapes and sizes.

RULES FOR R ENOVATIONS Thinking about home repairs or a remodel this spring? Franko Antolovich owner of House Doctors Handyman Service of Hardin County chimes in on everything you need to know to get started on a project in this season: WHO WE ARE & WHAT WE DO
It’s usually the annoying little house projects that drive us crazy – the leaky faucet, the loose board, the too small deck… At House Doctors, our specialty is taking care of those smaller problems so you can enjoy your home and have a happier life. I’m Franko Antolovich, and I opened House Doctors with my wife Cheryl because we wanted to offer a higher standard of repair services to this community. Before launching House Doctors, I retired as a Command Sergeant Major after 35 years in the United States Army, including more than 22 years serving in special operations. I also have extensive experience in the home repair and remodeling field. At House Doctors, our professional, insured, bonded and trained handymen are here to help and every job includes a one-year labor warranty. Our technicians specialize in a wide variety of projects, including light remodeling and home modifications, repairs in bathrooms and kitchens, drywall repair and painting, deck, door and exterior repairs, aging in place and much more. House Doctors Handyman Service of Hardin County offers professional handyman services in Hardin, Bullitt, Jefferson, Meade and Nelson counties. Our team at House Doctors is focused on professionalism, service excellence and quality workmanship. Our goal is to make home improvements easier for our customers by being on time, doing the job right and offering a one-year workmanship guarantee.
HOW TO GET STARTED ON HOME RENOVATIONS
Begin with Pinterest to gather ideas for your home renovation. While you won’t know exact prices before getting an estimate, it is important to have a budget in mind for your job. For large jobs such as bathroom remodels and deck construction, we set up an on-site visit to look over your ideas, refine the design and come up with a plan to give the look and feel you want within your budget. Most estimates can be completed within a week. Wait times to begin large renovations are typically three weeks, although the actual jobs are typically completed within 3-7 days. For most small jobs, we provide an estimate over the phone; there is no need to make multiple calls to different contractors. When homeowners call our office, we discuss their particular needs and can schedule a technician to come out that week at their convenience, whether it be to replace a faucet or repair drywall. We offer everything under the roof. The only thing we don’t do is roofing, but we use Above & Beyond Roofing. To get started on your project, call Angie at (270) 506-3430. When you call us, we will schedule you no later than the next week and oftentimes can do the same day or the next day.
WHAT ELSE YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE BEGINNING YOUR PROJECT
We always want to make recommendations that are not only trending and in style but also won’t hurt resale value. We want to ensure the materials you select meet your needs in functionality as well as style. Our handyman technicians are experienced at making repairs, and also knowing what repairs need to be done, and which repairs can wait. We often have ideas; not all of them are good ideas. We stick with what is practical and will bring you joy throughout the lifetime of your project. We train our technicians to ask questions about what you want your final project to do, not just what you want it to look like. The end result and functionality are equally as important, if not more so, than just the look. We encourage our customers to voice any and all concerns to ensure we’ve met all of your expectations. Your satisfaction is our greatest concern. If you’re not satisfied, we’re not finished. We want you to enjoy your repair or remodel for years to come!
We would love to see snapshots of all of your home improvements this spring and summer. Tag us on Instagram at @ElizabethtownLifestyle! 65

ISSUE 2 LAUNCH PARTY
70
Issue 2 has come and gone, but we still aren’t over our last launch party at Flywheel Brewing. Flywheel hosted over 150 Hardin County locals as we rang in the New Year, albeit a bit late, and celebrated the release of Elizabethtown Lifestyle Magazine Issue 2. The party was inspired by artwork from local artist Courtney Ballard of HIP South. The event featured a colorful array of florals including, tinted babies breath and dried / painted palm leaves plus my personal faves: peonies and anthuriums. Flywheel specializes in craft beer, but guests also had the option of purchasing mixed drinks and wine.
With any launch party, attendees walk away with a new magazine hot off the press. We also had our signature swag bags for the first 50 guests filled with goods from local businesses and Elizabethtown Lifestyle pint glasses. Our colorful donut bar by Amazin’ Glazin’ Donuts may have stolen the show. Popular flavors included Glazed Captain Crunch, Cream Cheese Danish and Blush Icing + Sprinkles.

With a background in events, bringing people together for any occasion has always meant so much to me. Launch parties are near and dear to my heart and quite possibly one of my favorite parts of the magazine. If you missed our first two launch parties, don’t worry. We will get back to hosting quarterly events as soon as gatherings are deemed safe. In addition, we are hoping to plan some local charity events in late 2020 / 2021. The only thing better than a party is a party that gives back to the community. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram for updates; watch for links to RSVP and get tickets on Eventbrite. We look forward to meeting you at an upcoming event!
72
IF YOU MADE IT OUT FOR THE PARTY, I APPRECIATE YOU. We are grateful for each guest who made it despite the cold and rain; the event took place on one of the rainiest Saturday evenings of 2020 to date. We couldn’t have made it happen without all of our event sponsors: Courtney Ballard at HIP South with artwork for our giveaway and the coolest photo backdrop (shown above), our venue and local craft beer geniuses Flywheel Brewing, Amazin’ Glazin’ Donuts, Emerald Oak Events and Kendall Ratchford for keeping the party on track with help from Kala Booth. In addition, I would like to thank my husband Aleks; Doctor Smith may specialize in throat surgeries, but he can design a flower arrangement and install with the best of them.

H A R DIN COUN T Y HOME BUYING AT I TS FINEST Buying a home is one of the most expensive investments you’ll make in your lifetime. We understand that and want to make sure we guide our clients through the home-buying process. From start to finish, we’re protecting their interests and safeguarding their confidential information and making sure they know that we’ll be loyal to them and disclose any material facts known to us. As Your Buyer’s Agent, our mission is pretty simple, to help you find the best home for your wants and needs and successfully get it at the best price possible.
In today’s age, with the internet making home searches easier,
according to NAR (National Association of REALTORS®) research, many homebuyers spend approximately three weeks searching for homes before contacting a REALTOR®. With the abundance of information on the internet, it is even more critical to have a partnership with a Buyer’s Agent who has YOUR best interests at heart. They can guide and interpret the information on the internet, as it can definitely be overwhelming. You should expect your Buyer’s Agent to be on top of the market and provide up-todate information on listings as they come in. They should guide you through the offer/acceptance stage, through the pending process, all the way to the closing table. After working together closely in this partnership, many of our clients become friends, and that is a great perk of being a REALTOR®!
ARTICLE CONTRIBUTED BY HANSEN HOME TEAM
Greg and Shellie Hansen have been a great team for 29 years as husband and wife, so it seemed only natural that they partner up in Real Estate as well. Recently, they’ve added a 3rd Hansen to the Team. Amanda is an absolute natural Realtor as well and brings a lot to the Team! 79

Contact Lender & Get Pre-Qualified Always a great first step, that way you can find out what your credit score is and how much home you can afford. Nothing is worse than falling in love with a house and losing it because someone else beat you to it, while you were getting pre-qualified. Choose a Realtor/Realtor Team Hansen Home Team is at your service. Whichever realtor you choose, schedule a sit-down consultation to discuss goals, a wish list and what to expect throughout your home buying process. Schedule Showings Be sure your realtor sets up showings around your schedule. Create a Pros & Cons List Narrow down your favorite houses; making a list of most important to least important home features is very helpful. Make an Offer Your realtor can help you make an informed offer based on current market conditions, your situation and home you are offering on. Schedule Inspections Important inspections to schedule include a Home Inspection, Termite Inspection and, if applicable, Septic, Fieplace and Radon. Do Final Walkthrough Final walkthroughs will take place a week before Closing and again before Closing to verify all repairs have been completed and no surprises have arisen (busted pipes, nothing broken, etc.). Schedule Your Move & Transfer Utilities Plan ahead to ease the stress, whether renting a moving truck yourself or hiring movers. Be sure to ask the seller which utility companies service your new home; you may need proof of ownership to transfer utilities over. Closing Day Meet at the title company to sign all the closing documents on your new home. Move In CONGRATULATIONS and WELCOME HOME!!

Red, Whi t e & Blue 101:
4TH OF JULY FESTIVITIES Cheers to fireworks this Fourth of July! It’s amazing to see our nation come together. I couldn’t be more proud to be an American and even more so, a Kentuckian. Kentucky sure knows how to celebrate and there is no better occasion than our country’s Independence Day. Do you decorate for the Fourth of July? Now is the perfect time to start, especially after being cooped up for weeks or maybe even months. Beginning outdoors with decor sets the tone for guests as they arrive at your home—and we aren’t just talking freshly cut grass. You need flags and lots of them. Whether you have a flag pole extending from you home or prefer to hang banners across your porch railing, everyone should know that you’re an American upon pulling in the drive. Small flags are an affordable way to line the walkway. Flags and banners can be purchased online or at your local hardware store. ETown Florist has a gorgeous selection of flowering plants in both red and white every Independence Day and offers delivery straight to your door. In addition, they carry wreaths for every occasion.

Add in some paper straws with stars and stripes, magical fireworks and All-American entrees, and you’re good to go for one of my favorite holidays of the year!
Setting the table may be my favorite part of any holiday get together, and the Fourth of July is no exception. This year we are all about patterns—plaid and gingham are standard, but don’t be afraid to try something new. With Classic Blue being the 2020 Pantone Color of the Year, Independence Day decor is something to get excited about. Use items you may have around the house, such as your grandmother’s ginger jars or good silver. Red placemats are an easy way to add in the bright hue. Pictured are items from my personal collection, but if you don’t have anything festive on hand, FINE House & Garden is our fave for local decor perfect to accent your table year-round.

Who’s ready for the Fourth of July? It starts with a pledge of allegiance to our flag and usually ends in a backyard with hot dogs, sparklers, and a drink or two. There are celebrations big and small in every community across the country. Whatever your plans may be, it’s time to party like it’s 1776. Let’s add a fun handmade decoration to your storebought stash this year. Collage, anyone? Coined by cubist artists Braque and Picasso, the term “collage” comes from the French word “coller,” or “to glue.” The movement emerged under these two artists, but plenty of others were inspired by their process. During the last decade of his life, Henri Matisse used painted paper and a pair of scissors to create some of the most influential pieces of his career. His cut-outs turned colored paper into plants, figures, animals, and shapes. Feeling inspired?! Ok, let’s get started…
STEP 1: Plan your space. Get a rough idea of how big/small the letters will need to be to fit onto your chosen surface. You don’t want to run out of room or have lots of extra space once things are cut. STEP 2: Sketch your letters. Don’t worry about perfection! The beauty of cut paper collage is in the personality of each shape. Use an x-acto knife to get nice, clean edges and work inside certain letters. Scissors can be used to cut along the outside of larger shapes. STEP 3: Get organized. Lay everything out so you’ll know where to start gluing. Cut out extra shapes like stars and dots to scatter around any negative space you may have. STEP 4: Glue, glue, glue. I find it helpful to work from top to bottom, making sure each piece is secure. Have I picked up a collage piece only to have half of it fall off onto the table? Sure have. Let everything sit for a few minutes so the glue can do its thing. STEP 5: Attach your wood strips. Apply a generous amount of glue to the top and bottom of your collage piece and firmly apply wooden strips. STEP 6: Measure twice, cut once. Glue each end of your bakers twine to the back of the top wood strip. Allow for some dry time before hanging. STEP 7: Proudly hang your cut paper collage… or gift it to your favorite host! Find a door, doorknob, or porch chair in need of a patriotic touch, and you’re all set.

If you frequent our local Home Depot, you probably already know me... I’m the disheveled one roaming the aisles every weekend covered in drywall dust and paint. If you’re not a Home Depot regular, then hi! I’m Ashley ,and it’s nice to meet you! Like a lot of the people in this town, my family settled here after my dad retired from the Army. Growing up an Army brat and eventually becoming a veteran myself has given me a deep appreciation for having strong community roots. I always knew I wanted my kids to have an idealistic small town childhood with friends they’ve known since they were old enough to walk; family right down the street; big birthdays; and a cozy, forever house that will always be “home” no matter how old they get or where their lives take them. My passion for affordable, do-it-yourself home renovation started when my husband Tyler and I purchased our Elizabethtown fixer-upper about five years ago. We dreamed of turning that builder grade ranch with all of its flaws into a cozy farmhouse-style home. Even though we had a non-existent budget, very little know-how, and three kids under our feet, we’ve somehow managed to trial-and-error our way through updating nearly every square inch of our home. Renovation projects had become such a constant part of our everyday life that it just felt natural to share our journey and all the how-to’s we’ve learned along the way. Thus, the Fontaine Farmhouse blog was born. I hope the blog inspires others to take on bigger, scarier projects. You don’t have to have the perfect house, a lot of money, or a background in general contracting to tackle your own
fixer-upper (although being married to an electrician is a definite plus). Starting with one project and seeing it through is a great confidence builder and motivator. Our first project in our home was tearing out some clunky porch railing. It was free, it was easy, and it was oh so satisfying to see it go. I showcase creative solutions for adding character and functionality to a space without breaking the bank. Like using salvaged lockers by the front door if you don’t have a coat closet; or making faux brick panels look like the real thing with a little joint compound and some elbow grease. Creating Fontaine Farmhouse has given me an amazing opportunity to help others, and for that I’m truly grateful. I couldn’t follow my dreams without the support of Tyler, our three amazing kids Josie, Reed, and Reagan, or my side-kick and spirit animal, Woodford the bulldog. I hope to run into you sometime, whether it be on the blog or at the Home Depot.
