BE IN THE KNOW WITH WHATS HAPPENING.
Devon and Cornwall Alert helps to connect with our communities. It tells you what is happening in your area and allows you to respond directly with information for the police. This service is totally free to sign up and used to be known as community messaging. .
The system is designed to allow people who register to choose the type of information they would like to receive concerning crime and anti-social behaviour, witness appeals, crime prevention, community events etc. Businesses can also register and will receive messages relevant to their business type and local area.
Subscribers will not be notified about every crime or incident that happens in their community. Our aim is to send relevant information where we believe to do so will reduce the opportunity for crime and anti-social behaviour or will help Devon and Cornwall Police solve a crime.
To register: https://alerts.dc.police.uk/ or via the Devon and Cornwall police website or contact your local Neighbourhood policing team.
We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and we wish you all a very Happy New Year.
The cold winter months can be a difficult time for many, especially in the bleaker winter months after Christmas. If you or someone you know could do with a nice warm meal or a cuppa with friendly faces, we have pulled together this weekly guide (on the opposite

North Devon Ramblers - Winter Walking Festival
Why not start the new year with the “New You.” Be fitter, healthier and enjoy connecting with nature while discovering more about our beautiful countryside? You will need walking boots and waterproof clothing as muddy paths are expected!
You are welcome to join us on one or more of our Winter Walks. There are 4 walks over 4 consecutive days from Thursday 2nd January to Sunday 5th January. They will be led by one or more of our experienced Walk Leaders; you do not have to be a member and it is completely free, so why not come along?
The walk on 2nd January will begin at the bus stop at the hospital (outside A&E ) at 10.00 and end at Pilton (so you could park there and walk or take a bus to the hospital). Approximately 9 miles, it will take us through Raleigh Woods to Shirwell and back via South Hill to Pilton.
The walk on 3rd January is a 7.5 mile walk around Hatherleigh. The start time is 10.30 and it will leave from Hatherleigh Village car park.
The walk on 4th January begins at Woody Bay lower car park meeting at 10.30. We will be walking to Hunters Inn and returning along the carriage road, about 7 miles in total.
The walk on Sunday 5th January starts at 10.00 at Caen Street car park, Braunton and will explore the American Road to Saunton and returning on the South West coast path, 10.5 miles.
Willow is a two-year-old Whippet cross looking for a home at Dogs Trust Ilfracombe Rehoming Centre.
She is a fun-loving, sweet, little lady who will be the first to hop on your lap to soak up all the fuss and snuggles on offer. She is seeking adopters who enjoy playing fetch as it’s her favourite game. She is always looking for someone to throw her ball or toys for her to chase after.
Willow has recently found her temporary happy place in a foster home as part of Dogs Trust’s Home from Home Scheme while she waits for her forever family to come along.
Willow likes to go out for long walks with her human friends, and does not mind if other calm dogs plod along with her as long as they let her relax, sniff, and do her own thing. She often enjoys zoomies in the garden to burn off excess energy. Otherwise, she is generally calm but does require regular physical exercise and mental stimulation. Willow likes to show off her tricks for tasty treats. She already knows sit and paw, but is a keen learner and would pick up new commands with some continued positive reward training.
Willow would love to find adult adopters who enjoy going out for long walks. She would be best suited to a quieter household, where she can be the only dog without cats or other small furries. Care may be needed around livestock and she may chase the odd squirrel if spotted. Willow has history of being housetrained in a home and the time she is left alone is best built up gradually. If you think you might be the perfect fit for Willow, or for more information about the other dogs at the centre, visit www.dogstrust.org.uk/ilfracombe

CAT OF THE MONTH - RASCAL
Meet eight year old Rascal a much loved pet since kittenhood who sadly due to no fault of his own now needs to find a new home. A gentle soul he loves human company, always greeting you with lots of face rubs and purrs. Underneath his lovely glossy coat he is just a bit chubby as he liked to beat his brother to the food bowl. Along with the vet and others we have decided they would be happier apart and are now looking for somewhere he would be the only pet in a quiet home with no children. Due to the location of his past home he has so far always been an indoor cat, although we believe it is now time for him to enjoy a new life somewhere he can be carefully and safely introduced to the great outdoors. With no experience of any traffic he would always need to be able to have access to his home should he feel the need. Could you give this lovely boy a second chance of a loving home?
As the new year begins, we would like to thank the EX33 for donating valuable space to Cats Protection. We always have cats that need new homes in the area and appearing in the EX33 is a valuable help to us. Thank you.
