Hello and welcome to the November edition. We hope you enjoyed the October fun and events around us with Halloween, half term etc? It’s getting chilly now, ready for Bonfire Night! Get your hats and scarfs out, make some lovely hot soup and hot dogs and enjoy!! Barnstaple Round Table have their annual display on Sunday 2nd November, it’s bound to be a great night as always. Please though, remember to make sure that your pets are safe and distracted from the fireworks if they get scared, they don’t ask for this event to happen!
This month brings us Fireworks night on 5th November, Remembrance Sunday on the 9th, Children in need on the 14th and Black Friday on the 28th. With the run up to Christmas looming, we have some Christmas events this month that are well worth visiting. Please support these independent traders and support the charities that they are raising money for. Enjoy yourselves and stay warm, until next month,

This Remembrance Sunday, we once again pause to honour those who gave their lives in service to our nation. As the years pass and living memories of the world wars fade, the act of remembrance grows ever more vital. It is not only about recalling history, but about reaffirming our collective commitment to peace, unity, and gratitude. In a world still marked by conflict and division, the red poppy reminds us of the human cost of war and the resilience of those who serve. Across towns and cities, silence will fall a moment to reflect, to thank, and to remember. Let us ensure that remembrance is not confined to a single day, but lives in our values, our compassion, and our shared hope for a more peaceful future.
50+ ATTEND ‘RETIREMENT’ REUNION
Over 50 ex-pupils of Pilton School attended a long overdue reunion earlier in the year and managed to raise £600 for North Devon Hospice.
The Class of 76 Reunion team had spent many hours trying to find the pupils who attended Chaddiford Lane between 1971 and 1976 and although not everyone was able to attend but connections both local and globally have been reconciled.
The event which was held on ‘home’ ground at Pilton was intended to celebrate what promised to be their retirement year, however subsequent government decisions meant another year of working commitments for these school year scholars.
£600 was raised for North Devon Hospice through tickets sales, raffle tickets and donations. Now the funds have been confirmed it has enabled the team behind the event to present the amount to Hospice Staff
The team is now planning a Christmas 2026 reunion to celebrate 50 years since the Class of 76 packed away their textbook and pens and went their separate ways. Details will be available nearer the time but it hoped that even would attend for more festive catch-ups.

Gig rowing in Barnstaple is a thriving community sport that combines teamwork, endurance, and a deep connection to North Devon’s maritime heritage. Crews launch their traditional wooden Cornish pilot gigs on the River Taw, cutting through the tides with power and precision.
The Barnstaple Pilot Gig Club, now celebrating its 15th anniversary, welcomes members of all ages and abilities, fostering camaraderie on and off the water. Regular training sessions, regattas, and friendly competitions bring together rowers from across the region. Whether for fitness, competition, or the joy of being on the water, gig rowing in Barnstaple continues to grow in popularity.
