CLEMENS DÖRR, WHY DO I CHANGE THE WORLD WHEN I BUY SUSTAINABLE FASHION?

The textile industry is one of the biggest polluters in the world. It produces more CO2 than global air and sea traffic, several billion tonnes per year. It makes a huge difference whether a garment is sent twice around the globe until it is finished or whether it is produced within a radius of 100 kilometers, like ours. We focus on short distances from the raw material to the finished fashion. Virtually no water is used in the production process. And almost no chemicals are used. In addition, our factory in Tunisia generates between 60 and 80 percent of its energy from its photovoltaics.

YOU HAVE BEEN USING NATURAL MATERIALS SINCE 2005, AND THREE YEARS AGO YOU STARTED A COOPERATION WITH THE FAMOUS ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCHER JANE GOODALL. WHAT HAVE YOU ACHIEVED?

In the meantime, we have been able to transfer more than 30,000 euros to the Jane Goodall Institute. The money goes to her projects in Tanzania.

The foundation has now planted 3.5 million trees and thus preserved sanctuaries for chimpanzees. In doing so, we have followed Jane Goodall's message:

Germany goes to environmental projects. Our first shopping evening with Elena Uhlig also raised 5500 euros, which went to Jane Goodall's foundation,

Greenpeace and the Tent School in Munich. WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE FASHION?

Timeless fashion that you can wear for a long time.

We focus on natural materials and upcycling. Our linen is grown exclusively in France and Belgium.

We were one of the first to industrially use and develop vegetable and mineral dyeing. We use polyester from recycled PET bottles and nylon from recycled fishing nets and carpet scraps.

Markets must be created for this. No onewill bring a fishing net back to shore if they don't get paid for it. One should also consider: How can I return the garment to the cycle? We are on the right track: I can even dispose of our uncontaminated linen, sewn with cotton yarn and dyed with plants, in the compost; it becomes soil again.

CLEMENS DÖRR, WARUM VERÄNDERE ICH DIE WELT, WENN ICH NACHHALTIGE MODE KAUFE?

Die Textilindustrie ist einer der größten Umweltverschmutzer der Welt. Sie produziert mehr CO2 als der weltweite Flug- und Schiffsverkehr, mehrere Milliarden Tonnen pro Jahr.

Es macht einen Riesenunterschied, ob ein Kleidungsstück zweimal um den Globus geschickt wird bis zur Fertigstellung oder ob es wie bei uns in einem Umkreis von 100 Kilometern produziert wird. Wir setzen vom Rohstoff bis zur fertigen Mode auf kurze Wege. Bei der Herstellung wird so gut wie kein Wasser verbraucht.

Und es kommen nahezu keine Chemikalien zum Einsatz. Zudem gewinnt unsere Fabrik in

Zeltschule in München gingen. WAS IST WIRKLICH NACHHALTIGE MODE?

Zeitlose Mode, die man lange tragen kann. Wir setzen dabei auf Naturmaterialien und betreiben Upcycling. Unser Leinen wird ausschließlich in Frankreich und in Belgien angebaut.

Wir waren einer der ersten, die Pflanzen- und

Mineralfärbung industriell einsetzten und weiterentwickelten. Wir benutzen Polyester aus recycelten PET-Flaschen sowie Nylon aus recycelten Fischernetzen und Teppichresten. Wichtig ist, dass hierfür Märkte entstehen. Niemand bringt ein Fischernetz wieder an Land, wenn er dafür kein Geld erhält. Dabei sollte man auch bedenken: Wie kann ich das Kleidungsstück in den Kreislauf zurückführen?

Wir sind da auf einem sehr guten Weg: Unser unbelastetes Leinen, das mit einem Baumwollgarn genäht und pflanzengefärbt ist, kann ich sogar im Kompost entsorgen, es wird wieder zu Erde.
