The Battle for the White House 2012 in and the outcome is still very much a toss-up. There are still several big states that are too close to call either way including: (Electoral Votes) Florida (29), Ohio (18), North Carolina (15), and Virginia (13). A presidential campaign lives and dies by electoral votes, so the results in these states are critical for Obama and Romney. There are also some big states that already heavily favor a candidate. For example, in California Obama leads Romney in the polls by 18%. Likewise, New York is strongly Democratic with Obama leading Romney by about 26%. On the other hand, Texas, which is traditionally Republican, continues the trend with Romney in the lead by about 19%. Overall, Romney currently holds more states according to polls, but Obama holds more states with higher electoral votes. As Ohioans we are in the midst of a battle that will very much decide the outcome. As we look back in history, Ohio has voted the way of the winner in all but two elections since 1904. This makes Ohio the most sought after state in Presidential campaigns. However, Ohio has lost two Electoral College votes since the last election due to the results of the 2010 Census, leaving it with 18; the fewest for Ohio since 1828. With the three Presidential debates and one vice presidential debate in the books, Americans have had a good look at each candidate. We have learned much about Obama and Romney through the political slugfest of the debates. One

Both the Democrats and Republicans have agreed that 2014 is a reachable goal for ending the conflict, but the Republicans have a problem with President Obama’s choice on announcing it publically. They believe that this gives the enemy the opportunity to hold out on offensives and preserve their strength until the withdrawal begins. However, the Democrats believe that our allies in this war deserve knowledge of our plans to cease fighting. In this Election there will be two different paths for voters to choose from.

ou can hear him coming from a mile away, the garbage can on wheels pulled by none other than James Robb. Whether you are in class, or walking through the halls, chances are you will see James at least once during the day. James Louis Robb, who is 40 years old, has worked at Elder for the past 11 years. He did not go to Elder himself, but his brother, uncles, and cousins did. As a result, this school has always had a place in James’ heart. He lives in Delhi and is a member of the St. Dominic parish. This is not his first time around the field of maintenance. He has served various jobs in the past such as bagging groceries at Kroger, and being a housekeeper at the
Hyatt and Marriott hotels. While working as a housekeeper he had an unusual experience. While on duty, James approached one of his assigned rooms. The door was closed so he knocked and called out the famous “Housekeeping.” The call was left unanswered so he presumed that the room was safe to enter. When he walked in he was greeted with an unexpected sight. With terror in his eyes, he fled the room. “I walked into the room and I saw a couple…I really didn’t need to hear ‘whose your daddy?’” With that in the past, James now works here at Elder. He does a job that is avoided by most people, and often taken for granted. He is responsible for emptying the garbage cans all around Elder. He is known for pulling around his trusty garbage can, and on rainy days he can be seen sporting a nice yellow poncho. You
Whether you don’t want another four years like the last, or believe that a change has begun that will take some time to develop, one thing is certain: The result will be closer than ever. It may even present the situation of a candidate winning the popular vote, but losing the election due to the Electoral College. The key is to educate yourself and vote with your head, not your emotions. God Bless America!

group of voters that the two sides are desperately trying to capture is the women. Back in 2008 the women sided with Senator Obama, but with this in mind Romney has been pushing to get their vote in his favor. In fact, In this election season, women are beginning to favor Romney. Amongst the women “likely voters” a recent poll shows that they side with Romney 50% to 46% for Obama. In the case of the economy, the candidates lay down two different paths for Americans to choose from. Mitt Romney has adopted a five point plan to spur the economy which includes achieving North American energy independence by 2020, balancing the federal budget, cutting healthcare costs while repealing Obamacare, and championing small business. Obama Plans to build the economy from the middle class out. He believes that putting the middle class back to work is essential for boosting the economy. He believes his recovery plan will take a while to develop and become effective and that we are already seeing some beginning success. He has issued programs such as his Stimulus Package, and Obamacare to get the economy back in order. These types of government run programs have come under attack by the Republicans for their ineffectiveness. Finally, Foreign policy is the next big buzz, mostly due to the recent attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Republicans have been on the offensive calling the attack a sign of the Obama Administration’s weak foreign policy. The Republicans call for an increase in national defense spending, but blame the weak economy at home as a hurdle to a strong defense. On the other side, President Obama has boasted about ending the war in Iraq, and killing Osama Bin Laden. However, perhaps the most

can often hear the roar of the garbage can tearing through the air no matter where you are. His job is not always easy. He told us that the days after the Elder games are the hardest because the garbage cans are filled to the top and often overflowing. James likes the fact that the job is able to keep him outside while working, and says it keeps him on his toes. He does a thankless job, often not acknowledged by the students. Next time you see James, go out of your way to thank him because he provides a service that is the backbone of any establishment.
