Description: Participants will receive training on how to help families and children cope with and prepare for emergency situations. Emergencies such as natural disasters, house/building fires and community violence will be discussed. Strategies for preparation will be shared using PBS and Sesame Street Characters and resources. Also, we will be sharing resources that can help providers in helping grief stricken children and families cope after a loss. There will be a specific section of the training dedicated to Covid 19 and it’s impact on families, as well as ideas for providers to support families.

Special Note: Participants can print out digital resources to use. Name(s) will be drawn during the training for a door prize to be mailed.

Description: Come learn more about how you can incorporate the Toddler CLASS tool in your own classroom! Opportunities to develop language and literacy skills happen all through the toddler’s busy day: from listening to stories, to participating in songs and finger plays, to conversations during play, lunch and diapering! This highly interactive course is designed to introduce learners to strategies they can use in the classroom and explore how to adapt current classroom practices to make the most of their time with children while increasing the effectiveness of their interactions.

OUTCOMES:

Navigate PBS resource platforms to find relevant multi media materials

Identify ways to help families prepare in advance for different emergency situations Identify ways to help support and console grieving families members after a (human or property) loss Identify ways to help families affected by tragedy cope and move forward Be able to share PBS resource sites with families and help them navigate for their own use

OUTCOMES:

Learners will compare effective strategies to use in the classroom as it relates to the CLASS tool, with current classroom strategies regarding typical classroom interactions with children.

Learners will implement strategies introduced during the course within their classroom and complete a course strategy reflection form.

Description: CLASS Group Coaching (MMCI) helps early childhood professionals engage with the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) as they identify and understand the interactions that increase children’s learning and development. Participants will learn how to use the CLASS observation tool for considering teaching practices and guiding observations of classroom videos and real-life interactions.

Special Note: Each session has two-two hour parts IE: Session 1 part 1 and session 2 part 2. There will be a 30 minute break between Saturday sessions. You must attend each session and complete an instructional survey (last session) in order to receive full credit. Complete assigned ‘homework’ between sessions, including reflective planning and practice, viewing on line resources, and participation in the on line discussion forum. Participants for this training MUST have access to high-speed Internet in order to access/ view online resources and discussion forum. CEUs/certificate of completion is provided by Teachstone.

IMPLEMENTING THE FLORIDA STANDARDS IN PRESCHOOL CLASSROOMS: 3 YEARS OLD TO KINDERGARTEN

Description: This training is based on the newly revised Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards and provides an overview of the standards used in preschool classrooms serving children ages three years old to Kindergarten. This training meets the lead VPK instructor training requirements and incorporates the standards approved for use in VPK programs. Examples of developmentally appropriate instructional strategies for preschool age children are provided throughout the training along with information about purposeful planning, reflective practice and qualities of an effective educator. Through an interactive presentation, video clips, and hands-on activities, participants will become familiar with the Standards and understand the elements of quality instruction in preschool classrooms. (3 hours and 0.3 CEUs)

Special Note: Participants must register on the DCF Child Care Training website at https://training01-dcf.myflorida.com/ studentsite/admin/signin. Use Course Reference #9510. No one will be admitted after 15 minutes.

OUTCOMES:

Be knowledgeable of the 2017 Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards. Utilize the Educator’s Guide to Understanding the Florida Early Learning and Developmental Standards when planning developmentally appropriate experiences in VPK and multi-aged classrooms. Understand the characteristics of an effective educator, elements of quality instruction and the importance of reflective practice to support children’s continued growth and development.
