Dos Razones

Tengo dos razones importantes por las cual el Medicaid es importante para mí. La primera razón sería porque tengo una hija con autismo que depende de mí. Por esa misma razón, yo no he podido trabajar ya que mi hija necesita de mi cuidado todo el tiempo. También necesita mucha atención médica. La segunda razón es mi hijo que tiene asma y en los cambios de clima él se pone muy mal. Hay veces que él requiere de su inhalador y sin seguro médico sale muy caro comprarlo. Es importante que él lo tenga por cualquiera complicación.

Para mí fue un gran alivio cuando me notificaron que fuimos aprobados todos para Medicaid, ya que es importante que estemos saludables. Con la cobertura, yo también voy a poder realizarme los exámenes que necesito. Mi vista no está muy bien pero ya puedo ir para hacerme un examen de la vista y obtener lentes para ver mejor. Para mí es importante estar saludable por mis hijos, porque en este momento yo soy madre y padre para ellos y ellos me necesitan. Me da mucha paz sabiendo que ellos y yo podemos recibir el cuidado que necesitamos, especialmente si tenemos una condición que requiere de mucho cuidado. Sé que muchas personas están en una situación similar a la mía y recomiendo que si pueden aplicar para Medicaid, que lo hagan.

Two Reasons

I have two important reasons why Medicaid is important to me. The first reason would be because I have a daughter with autism who depends on me. The second reason is my son who has asthma and when the weather changes, he gets very sick. There are times when he needs his inhaler and without medical insurance it is very expensive to buy. It is important that he has it for any complications.

It was a great relief for me when they notified me that we were all approved for Medicaid, as it is important that we stay healthy. With the coverage, I will also be able to get the exams done that I need. My eyesight isn’t good, but I can now go for an eye exam and get glasses to see better. For me it is important to be healthy for my children, because at this moment I am both a mother and a father to them and they need me. It gives me a lot of peace knowing that they and I can get the care we need, especially if we have a condition that requires a lot of care. I know many people are in a similar situation to me and I recommend that if you can apply for Medicaid, that you do so.

¿Cuánto Sabe Acerca de su Jubilación?

Mucha gente de la tercera edad, personas que ya cumplieron o están a punto de alcanzar la edad de los 62 años, siempre tienen dudas acerca del retiro. Han escuchado de familiares o conocidos que ya tienen la edad para poder jubilarse. Otros son personas mayores de 65 años que aún no están interesados en el retiro, pero no están informados sobre otros beneficios que pueden obtener al cumplir los 65, los cuales deben ser tomados antes de llegar a esta edad.

Yo llegue a la oficina de El Centro buscando ayuda para una emergencia dental que tenía. Al conocerme, la Navegadora de Salud pudo deducir que ya había cumplido la edad completa para recibir mi pensión, algo que yo desconocía. Al comunicarnos con la oficina del seguro social, nos informó que como no aplique al jubilarme que tendría una penalidad aplicada a mi caso por no haber solicitado la cobertura Medicare al cumplir los 65 años. En lugar de pagar la cantidad normal cada mes para la Parte B, me iban a cobrar más y por vida. Esto es mucho para personas de mi edad, lo cual afecta de manera drástica la pensión y los pagos del retiro que podemos recibir, especialmente para aquellos que reciben una pensión mínima que no alcanza a cubrir ni las necesidades básicas que tenemos.

Es importante que las personas de la tercera edad se informen de este tema de suma importancia para evitar que caigan en situaciones como la mía, donde dejar de trabajar no es una opción y recibir ayuda de Medicaid para pagar la prima más la penalidad mensual no es posible, debido por pasar el nivel de ingreso máximo para ser elegible.

How Much do you Know About Your Retirement?

Many seniors, people who have already reached or are about to reach the age of 62, always have doubts about retirement. They have heard from relatives or acquaintances that they are old enough to retire. Others are people older than 65 who are not yet interested in retirement but are not informed about other benefits they can get when they turn 65, which must be taken before reaching this age.

I came to the El Centro office looking for help for a dental emergency I was having. Upon meeting me, the Health Navigator was able to deduce that I had already reached the full age to receive my pension, something I was unaware of. When contacting the social security office, they informed us that when I retire I would have a penalty applied to my case for not having applied for Medicare coverage when I turned 65 years old. Instead of paying the normal amount each month for Part B, they were going to charge me more, and for life. This stops a lot of people my age, which drastically affects the pension and retirement payments that we can receive, especially for those who receive a minimum pension that is not enough to cover even the basic needs that we have.

It is important that seniors are informed about this very important issue to avoid falling into situations like mine, where stopping work is not an option and receiving help from Medicaid to pay the premium plus the monthly penalty is not possible, due to passing the maximum income level to be eligible.
