KEYNOTE SPEAKER Deyja Charles Deyja Charles is an El Camino College alumna and accomplished news writer, editor, and manager whose career has taken her to newsrooms across the country. She currently works as an executive producer at ABC 10 News in San Diego. After earning an associate degree at El Camino, Charles transferred to California State University, Fullerton where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communications with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. She then took broadcast news positions at various networks where she wrote, produced, and reported local news. While at El Camino, Charles found opportunities that guided her classwork, helped her land internships, and enabled her to envision her future. She said El Camino allowed her to explore career interests, which set her on a path to news reporting and production. She credits much of her success to joining El Camino’s First Year Experience, a program that launched in 2001 with the mission to help students be successful.
STUDENT SPEAKER Quinton Adams Quinton Adams is a fire and emergency technology major who plans to apply to the El Camino Fire Academy with the goal of becoming a structural firefighter. He enrolled in El Camino College after earning a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology at California State University, Fullerton last spring and went on to complete his degree at El Camino in just one year. Adams said that the academic environment at El Camino was just what he needed – a community of learners with support coming from a variety of areas, from classmates and faculty to online resources that helped him connect with others while working on assignments. Born and raised in Inglewood, Adams plans to utilize his skills and training to serve his community.
