CYBER EDGE MINI-ZINE EDITORIAL AND PUBLICATION DESIGN PRINT

Designing a publication for techwear; aesthetics meet functionality within the clothing industry.

When I was given the opportunity to create my own fictitious mini-zine, I chose to develop Cyber Edge, a mini-zine about techwear fashion, where it came from, where to purchase it, and some of my personal style choices on how I wear it.

The challenge was to plan, develop, lay out, design and develop content for two spreads (an article and an interview). It must also have a Johnson & Wales advertisement for the back cover.

The results; Cyber Edge was designed, printed, and produced.

TYPOGRAPHY FONT POSTERS PRINT

The history and anatomy of fonts Karmina and Avenir.

When given the opportunity to create posters for a serif and sans serif font, I chose to use the serif font Karmina and the sans serif font Avenir. One made to withstand the worst printing conditions and the other a geometric sans serif.

The challenge was to research and design two 11x17 typographic posters. One poster will feature a sans serif font and the other will feature a serif font.

The results; Karmina (serif) and Avenir (sans serif) font posters were researched, designed, and created.

THE EXPLORER, BOUTIQUE HOTEL WEB DESIGN AND CODING

Eat. Sleep. Explore. Repeat.

When given the challenge of crafting a boutique hotel website, I chose to launch a hotel named “The Explorer”. A website designed to appeal to the outdoorsy and active people... The explorers.

The challenge was to create a single-page, long-scrolling, website for a fictitious boutique hotel. All the pages and interactives need to be responsive. Everything was coded with HTML and CSS.

The results; The Explorer was born. All pages have interactive elements and are responsive according to their design.

Representing the psychology behind color in a hand-crafted accordion book.

When given the challenge of creating a mixed media accordion book I chose to do mine on the psychology of color. Featured in the booklet are the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and pink.

The challenge was to design and handcraft both an accordion-style booklet and a box to hold the it. It must have unique materials/construction, creative cover design, be entirely hand-crafted and non-digital design and construction, mixed media, typography, and the elements and principles of design.

The results; The Psychology of Color accordion booklet was designed and created as a physical product.

SURREAL WORLD PRINT

A surreal world where there is a big dog in a world of small people.

When presented the opportunity to create a surreal world I was not sure what I wanted to do at first. I landed on the star of the show in my work, the dog. I built the world around that. I wanted small people and abnormally large animals.

The challenge to sketch a fantasy/surreal world and turn that into a rasterized photo based collage. You will use collected images to create a world of your own imagining that is based on real images.

The results; this surreal world of big animals and small people came to life.

CITY OF PROVIDENCE CURRENCY PRINT

Designing paper currency in an innovative way.

When presented with the chance to design paper currency for the City of Providence, RI, I knew from the start I wanted vertical money instead of the traditional horizontal. Besides that I did not know what direction I wanted to go in.

The challenge was to design a paper currency for the City of Providence, RI. Original designs should be created for the front side of the $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills. The results; the City of Providence bill was redesigned with a re-imagined look.

TYPOGRAPHY QUOTE POSTERS PRINT

Illustrating typographic quotes on posters.

Given the opportunity to pick two quotes and re-imagine them illustratively I made sure to choose quotes that had meaning and inspired me. The first quote I chose was “I used to be afraid of dying. Now I’m afraid of not living,” from the book Challenger Deep, written by Neal Shusterman. The second quote I chose was “When darkness crawls in, even the brightest light falls dim.”

The challenge was to use Adobe Illustrator to “illustrate” two quotes using only typographic and decorative character elements.

The results; a set of illustrative quote posters were designed and created.

TYPOGRAPHY CARD DECK PRINT

A card deck of twenty six different cards about different fonts.

When presented the chance to create my own typography based deck of cards, I was beyond excited. Although not knowing what exact fonts I wanted to use, I had a good idea of the inspiration I wanted to use.

The challenge was to design a type card deck containing twenty six cards, one for each letter of the alphabet. Each card should feature a different font for that letter, the font name, and a fact about the typeface chosen. The back of the card should contain a pattern you design using the font and specific letter.

The results; the A-Z typography deck was designed, printed, and constructed.
