Finalmente ocurrió lo que todos esperaban: el gobernador Ronald Housni Jaller y el director de la corporación Coralina, Durcey Stephens Lever, anunciaron el cierre del acceso a los cayos Bolívar (East South East Cays) y Albuquerque (South South West Cays) conforme a una resolución emitida por la autoridad ambiental de las islas.

El cierre será temporal –mientras se elabora un plan de manejo actualizado o modelo de desarrollo eco-turístico para cada uno de los complejos que garantice la conservación y protección de los ecosistemas– y solo los pescadores artesanales y los residentes podrán acceder con estrictas limitaciones.
The closure will be temporary - while it is developed an updated management plan or model of eco-tourist development for each of the complex that ensures the conservation and protection of the ecosystems and only artisanal fishermen and residents may have access with strict limitations.
A la reunión también asistieron la secretaria de Turismo, Sara García Villegas; la secretaria de Servicios Públicos y Medio Ambiente, Jennifer Villalba Archbold y el comandante del Comando Específico de San Andrés y Providencia (Cesyp) Contralmirante Andrés Vásquez Villegas, entre otros. A la luz de las evidencias presentadas tras el creciente deterioro que viene sufriendo nuestro entorno, se tomó la decisión de adoptar medidas dichas medidas urgentes para reducir el impacto ecológico y contrarrestar el proceso que los está llevando al colapso ambiental.

Si los pescadores o residentes son sorprendidos en manejos de ‘tures’ o alguna actividad similar, también serán severamente sancionados, dijo el contralmirante Vásquez Villegas, anticipando que la ley será para todos y de estricto acatamiento. “Sin excepciones”, aseveró.

Como se recordará, en los últimos días se presentaron y comprobaron ‘In situ’ las reiteradas denuncias de la comunidad sobre malos manejos ambientales y sobre explotación turística de carácter extractivista en los cayos aludidos, que obligaron a Coralina a emitir la resolución de cierre.
