#3 Erasmus Student Network

ESN Liberec is a nonprofit student organization at the Technical University of Liberec. ESN Liberec is part of Europe’s largest student organization, the Erasmus Student Network.

A key project of ESN Liberec is the buddy program. In this project, Czech students choose a foreign student and become their „buddy“. In the first days after the arrival of foreign students, they act as a support and lend a helping hand. They help the foreign student settle in the dormitory accommodation and also arrange other necessary documents.

#3.1.

WHAT DO THEY OFFER?

If you want to make friends, learn about other countries, have fun and visit more places in Czechia, don’t hesitate to check out ESN. From a welcome week, country presentations or sports activities to parties, laser games, ice skating and trips to places like Prague or beer brewery Svijany and more, you can join it all.

Every month they post any upcoming events so check their socials!

In addition, they also post interesting facts and tips about Czechia and Czech culture.

#4 Wi-Fi

To make sure you don’t run out of all your mobile data during your first week, you can use the university WiFi! You can log in to TULwifi or eduroam. What is the difference? TULwifi is a network that works only for the students of our university. It has limited services, therefore you would read your emails on it and check out Instagram but don’t expect much more. It’s also a public network, useful more for when nothing else works. Nevertheless, it kicks you out every half an hour.

On the other hand, eduroam will connect you with the social world of any Czech university, that takes part in this project. It will provide full services and with all that, it also encrypts your data! And that pays off. You can set up access to both WiFi on liane.tul.cz in the Change password for remote access section.

#5 Liane

LIANE (Liberec Academic Network) is the computer network of the Technical University of Liberec. LIANE users can use the following central managed services:

access to the internet (Ethernet, Wi-Fi), central managed username and password used to access many services (access to computers in classrooms, a library, e-learning systems, etc.),

e-mail account: firstname.surname@tul.cz, membership in Eduroam – project, thanks to which you will get access to the network of other universities in the Czech Republic and also abroad.

Accounts in the Liane network are automatically created for every student of the first year according to the information provided by the study department of each faculty. These accounts are valid during the whole duration of the studies.

If you need just to change the password, contact your International Study Office, please!

#6 is STAG

At the Technical University of Liberec, all study records about each study programme, subject, timetable events, and study results. etc. are recorded in the information systemcalled STAG (Study Agenda). Make sure to keep your access data obtained from the Study Department in a safe place so that you can read information about test dates you are to register for, assessments for your tests and examinations and so on.

STAG is not connected to the LIANE authentication system and therefore it uses a separate password!

The login name used for IS STAG is equal to the student’s name.surname. You will get a login name and STAG password from the Study Office. It is advised to change the password after the first login.

Registration and deregistration for examinations are done through the IS STAG. A student has the right to deregister by the deadline set in the IS STAG. A student who deregisters from an examination in time is considered as if they had not registered for the examination. If a student withdraws from and examination after it begins, if they violate the examination rules, they are classified as ́failed ́.

#7 E-learning

E-learning is a web application where you can find learning materials such as videos of lectures or presentations. In addition, you can find the requirements for completing the course or you may have to submit assignments and complete exam tests there. E-learning will therefore be very important for you during your studies.

#7.1 How to register for the selected course: Go to the web page

Use your LIANE username and password to login into the course.

In section navigation → My profile → Registration of the courses (Registrace/odregistrace kurzů STAG), you will choose the courses you want – you can see the course here, only if you have the course registered in STAG!

Then you have to click to Save changes!

Now you should see your desired course in the section My courses.

#8 Webmail TUL

Every registered user of the LIANE network has assigned an e-mail address in the form firstname.surname@tul.cz, where the firstname.surname at the beginning corresponds to the username. The mailbox size is 0,5 GB.

8.1 BASIC WAYS HOW TO USE UNIVERSITY E-MAIL:

Any common e-mail application like Thunderbird or MS Outlook for PC, or any e-mail app for mobile phones, 1. Web interface: webmail.tul.cz you need only a common web browser. This is the simpler way to access your correspondence but the user comfort is a bit limited. 2.

#9 student ISIC card

Every student enrolled at the Technical University of Liberec must have a valid student ID card – either ISIC (International Student Identity Card) or a cheaper TUL student card with a chip.

You can choose the type of cards you would like to get and fill in the application form.

The registration and the payment: cards.tul.cz.

The ISIC card is valid only for one year, the next year you only need to buy the ISIC revalidation token.

The Card Centre (photoshooting) is located nearby the Mensa in Husova.

PAYMENT AND REGISTRATION

You can use this card even for public transportation. When you have your ISIC card and your dormitory card with your photograph, you can buy the monthly ticket for local transportation.

#10 Mensa

Mensa is a typical part of a student’s life. Somebody loves it, somebody can’t stand it. But how does it even work? What to do to not starve to death? It’s fairly easy, you need an ISIC card on which you put money by the entrance to the mensa! We got three of them

Mensa Husova (main Campus)

Mensa Voroněžská (in building H)

Mensa Harcov (in dormitories of Harcov)

You can also order lunch and dinner beforehand over the internet on menza.tul.cz. Vegetarians and celiacs can also find their options.

Just keep in mind that the latest you can order a meal is one workday before noon. If you change your mind, you can cancel the order also until one workday before noon.

Did you know, that... Mensa has its own bursa? If you don’t manage to cancel your order before 12 pm one day before, the lunch will move to a bursa. And if somebody else buys it then, you will still have it for free.
