S ' T N E D N E By: Dr. Amos T N I R E R P E “We Can, We Will, Get U N S R O C Through This Together” It’s been an interesting semester with this pandemic.

The disruption caused by the pandemic and the interruption of the normal school day continues to pose barriers to meeting the most basic of children’s needs which is access to food and nutrition and shelter throughout this nation. Families’ resources also have been largely impacted by the economic downturn that followed such a disruption. Even with this barrier, I am truly amazed at how learning is still taking place virtually and in-person. All across the nation people often state that our school-aged students have fallen behind due to the amount of days missed from March 2020 until school resumed for the 20-21 school year. Yes, some have experienced a learning gap throughout the nation. This has overshadowed the new learning experienced through the flexible learning models such as more depth in utilizing hands-on technology in various ways, social networking, surfing, and classroom communication with peers and teachers. In knowing that the learning gap has increased, resting is not an option until we observe the gap closing. In order for our students to be prepared to compete in a global society, closing the gap and providing an education taught by high-quality educators is imperative.

It is also imperative that our community remain focused on meeting the needs of students, families, and educators.

Safety is our number one priority and we all know that to be true due to the number of increased cases in the county and state. As a person, it may be easy to forget about COVID, but I will assure you that COVID will not forget about you. As long as we keep ourselves safe, we protect those around us daily. Remember, we are a team and teams take care of each other.

This will also be a time to spend with those whom you care deeply about. No matter who you decide to spend time with just remember to take care of yourself.

Our vision statement of “One Goal…One Purpose…Student Success” pushes us as educators to provide students with the great educational opportunities so that they can perform at a very high level in today’s society. As we strive to work towards a common goal and understand the rationale, it is imperative that all stakeholders take ownership in educating every child. We must continue to work as a team to ensure the best for all EISD students. Remember, “Everman ISD Is The Place To Be!”

Bishop Elementary By: Andrea Hickman

November is a time where we stop and reflect on the things and people we are grateful for. At Bishop elementary we created a I am Thankful wall where students can write what they are Thankful for. After they write their note it is posted on the wall in the cafeteria where Staff and students can read them.

Students also wrote Thankful notes to someone special in their life that wanted to appreciate.

They were able to give their notes to that person either on campus or they took them home. All students whether they are In Person students or Virtual students participated.

In addition to

being grateful we also focused on kindness. Nov. 13th was World Kindness Day. To promote kindness each student was challenged to each day to do some type of kindness act, such as giving someone a compliment.

Continuing the Spirit of Gratitude Bishop Elementary along with the City of Everman showed our appreciation for Officer Arango and for his service to the City of Everman. He will be greatly missed.

We Bend, But We Don't Break!

As we approach the Holiday Season, I am reminded of all the precious memories that I have nestled in the back of my mind. Oh the beautiful images of Christmas trees at my grandmother's house as a little girl. Or the "Big Christmas" I had the year my dad had a little extra. Whatever the items received I cannot tell you, I vaguely remember the things that I thought were so special. However I vividly recall the people associated with those memories. Take some time to talk to those you love. They will not always be available to listen and the memories you make with them will last for a lifetime!

New Teacher Spotlight: Allyson Ochesky Allyson Ochesky is one of our veteran teachers at E. Ray Elementary. She is from Abilene, Texas where she attended Abilene Christian University. Keeping up with her family tradition, she became interested in teaching due to her mom, dad, and step-dad all being coaches and teachers. One thing that Mrs. Ochesky is looking forward to this year is building a relationship with her new students. Part of the reason why she loves Everman is because of her long-lasting relationships with her students that come years and years afterwards.

Counselor's Corner Here are some great steps you can take to stop bullying: Learn more about the issue. The more informed and better educated you are, the better you can make an impact.

Practice what you preach. Children mock what they see, so be a good role model for the little ones around you.

Talk to your kids. Ask them about experiences at school, and make sure they feel comfortable and know they can always come to you if something happens.

Monitor what your child does online. Right now, cyberbullying is the fastest-growing type of harassment amongst young people.

R E D Y U R O A S T N E M E BY: KIMBERLY LITTLE L E DREAM! ACHIEVE! BELIEVE! Despite COVID challenges, Souder Elementary took on the “Social Media Challenge” and kept it going throughout the month of November!

Here’s one of our favorite moments: Our car rider ladies “Hard at Work” on duty!

“Oh Toodles!” We held our Book-ATreat where we passed out books and treats to our Souder students and families, Disney style! Our students and families had a blast!

Townley Elementary Book-A-Treat Fall is in the air, and Townley is bustling with exciting news for the month of October. In addition to staff and students participating in Red Ribbon Week, we added a little twist or pumpkin spice one might say to our October events calendar. First up was our Book-A Treat event. To prepare for this spectacular drive by event, staff and community members donated various literary titles. Over 200 books were collected and arranged by grade level to ensure each student received the perfect fit. Staff members even decorated their cars with themes in mind for Townley families to see as they picked up their book and treat bag. The smiles we saw that evening were worth more than all the pumpkins in the patch. It was truly a night to remember

Read-Aloud Without a doubt, we know we will have an encore presentation of our Facebook Live read-aloud. This month’s titles were The Rollaway Pumpkin by Junia Wonders and I Promise by Lebron James. As always, Mrs. Dees on the 1,2,3’s had to get the party started by asking her favorite question, “What time is it?” At Townley we know it’s always peanut butter jelly time! Dressed as pumpkins to commemorate the event, Mrs. Dees and the guest readers danced to It’s Peanut Butter Jelly Time. And who were the guest readers for the evening? None other than our First Grade teacher Mr. Rodriguez and our Instructional Coach Mrs. Young. Mrs. Young read the title in English while Mr. Rodriguez delighted the listeners with his vibrant Spanish translations. To bring the evening to a close, Mrs. Dees captured the hearts of our Townley Heroes through her reading of I Promise. She reminded our students to always do their best, never give up, and be themselves. For the month of October, Townley definitely turned their pumpkins into pumpkin pie.

We started offering the opportunity for students to participate in our Saturday Academies where they can get some additional instruction and we had over 160 show up. That truly shows that they are in it to win it!

Teacher Spotlight

The teacher spotlight this month goes to our College and Career Readiness teachers, Ms. Washington and Ms. Lewis. In their classes, students are not only exploring the different endorsements that they can choose from, once they get to high school, but they are also learning about life after high school. They currently completed their unit on Financial Aid where they covered the different types of financial aid and how to get it.

Counselor’s Corner Twelve Days of Denim Greetings EAHS Students and Parents,Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your flexibility as we are working together through these unprecedented times. We appreciate your patience as we continue to work towards student achievement and academic excellence!As we prepare for the upcoming month, we have quite a few things that will be happening in the month of December. Please take note of the information from Ms. Cooper in regards to STAAR EOC and our December parent meeting.As we prepare to end our first semester, we would like to bring in some holiday cheer. We are so excited to be able to share the season with our students. They have all worked very hard and as a token of our appreciation, they will be invited to participate in “12 Days of Denim”. Students will be eligible to wear jeans beginning December 3rd-December 18th. In order to wear their jeans, they must follow the theme of the day.

December 3rd-Jingle Bells December 4th-Wear Red and/or Green December 7th-Santa Hat December 8th-Christmas Socks December 9th-Holiday Scarf or Tie December 10th-Wear Red December 11th–Favorite Christmas Head Gear (i.e. antlers, etc) December 14th- Rudolph Nose December 15th-College Day (Pretend like you are taking finals again.)

December 16th-Winter Gloves/Hat Day December 17th– Be Festive (Dress for the season.)

Everman High School Families, I trust this email finds you well and you are following CDC protocols. I can only imagine how stressful this time has been for your family with virtual learning. Monitoring the progress of your student, ensuring they are logging in daily and communicating with teachers has proven to be a challenge.

Likewise, our teachers and staff have been working extremely hard to ensure that students continue to learn during this worldwide pandemic. Although none of us could have predicted this outcome for 2020, I am confident that we will persevere. In the words of our superintendent Dr. Amos "We can and will get through this together". The word together is a powerful one. One definition states "into or in a condition of unity, compactness or coherence". As we progress through this "condition" of COVID, let us all be reminded to be unified in our purpose and coherent in our message - One Goal, One Purpose, Student Success. I hope you all enjoy the Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks and that our students return with a renewed sense of commitment.

Ingredients ½ cup butter, melted ¾ cup sugar ¼ cup brown sugar ½ teaspoon vanilla ⅓ cup molasses 1 egg 2 teaspoons baking soda 2 cups flour 1 tablespoon cinnamon ½ teaspoon ground ginger ¼ teaspoon ground cloves ¼ teaspoon nutmeg ½ teaspoon salt Cream Cheese Frosting 8 ounces cream cheese, softened ¼ cup butter, softened 3 cups powdered sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9×13″ baking pan and set aside.

2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and molasses.

3. Add the egg and stir until completely incorporated.

4. Add baking soda, flour, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg and salt and mix until well combined.

Spread dough evenly into the greased pan, pressing all the way to the edges.

5. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes (Do not over cook).

Remove& let cool.

Cream Cheese Frosting 1. Mix butter and cream cheese together in a large mixing bowl (I use my stand mixer). Add vanilla.

2. While mixing, gradually add in powdered sugar. Mix until creamy & well-combined.

3. Once the bars have cooled, frost the tops. Garnish with holiday sprinkles or a pinch of cinnamon.

4. Cut into squares and serve.
