Celebrating 20 Years at Desert Ridge Marketplace The community is welcome to a calendar full of fall events DESERT RIDGE MARKETPLACE IS CELEBRATING ITS 20TH ANNIVERSARY WITH A MONTH-LONG CALENDAR OF FALL FUN. During October, guests will be treated to free family fun, giveaways, and no shortage of live entertainment. Desert Ridge Marketplace, located at 21001 N. Tatum Boulevard, celebrates two decades of being the place #WHERELIFEHAPPENS. Guests are invited to help the center swing into its 20s with Deals of the Decade, 20 days of giveaways from favorite brands and a custom photo opp experience with an interactive swing. Locals can enter on the center’s website for a chance to win a pair of tickets to see The Jonas Brothers at Ak-Chin Pavilion on October 26 and a pair of tickets to see Florida Georgia Line on November 11.
It’s starting to look like fall at Desert Ridge Marketplace. The third annual Pumpkin Patch returns to The District near AMC Theatres from October 15 through October 31. Pick the perfect pumpkin (while supplies last), snap a seasonal photo, and enjoy free face painting and balloon twisting on select dates. Then on October 22, venture out to the center from 6 to 8 p.m. for an evening of spooky surprises during Creepy Candy Crawl. Children and families are invited to dress to impress for the annual Halloween costume contest and trickor-treating. Plus, enjoy Halloween-themed music, dancing, games, prizes, and more. Desert Ridge Marketplace is also excited to host I Recycle Phoenix on October 16 from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. where guests can take advantage of free document shredding and responsibly recycle most house-
hold items. Then, October 18 to 22, partake in Paul’s Car Wash near Kohl’s where Paul Horton from CBS 5 will roll up his sleeves and wash hundreds of cars in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters Arizona. Finally, on October 24, join Desert Ridge Marketplace for the 8th annual celebration of Live & Local from 6 to 9 p.m. This ticketed event benefits the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Scottsdale and transforms The District into a VIP experience, boasting a delectable culinary tasting menu and entertainment lineup, including local restaurant and beverage partners, celebrity mixologists, entertainers, and more. In addition, Desert Ridge Marketplace will feature some of the Valley’s hottest local bands at The District Stage every Friday and Saturday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. Looking ahead, get ready for a winter filled

Music to Our Ears: Lakeshore Music Moves to the new Ravenscroft Hall THE NORTH SCOTTSDALE JAZZ MUSIC SCENE IS GETTING A NEW NEIGHBOR. Lakeshore Music, which has grown into one of the most-respected jazz concert series in the U.S. during its 12 seasons at Tempe Center for the Arts, is moving to Ravenscroft Hall, a beautiful new state-of-the-art venue in North Scottsdale. The nine-concert season, which opens October 16, runs through May 2022. Tickets, with a variety of packages and pricing, are on sale at lakeshoremusic.org.
“It’s an exciting new beginning for us in an area thirsting for cultural activity and live music,” says Woody Wilson, Lakeshore Music founder and president. “It has been a long and painful ordeal since February of 2020 when we were forced into shutdown by the COVID-19 pandemic. As the saying goes, ‘When one door shuts, another one opens.’ Our new door is the beautiful new Ravenscroft in Scottsdale. We are very excited to build a new audience of live jazz patrons in the North Valley. Our shows are not only great performances but also social occasions where friends meet to catch up and share the experience of live jazz done well.”

Ravenscroft, at 8445 E. Hartford Drive in the Scottsdale Perimeter Complex, just off Loop 101 at Princess Drive, is a 30,000-square-foot campus with a music venue and multi-use space. Its Ravenscroft Hall is an intimate 200-seat concert venue. The campus includes Jazzbird, a first-class jazz lounge, which, starting Fridays this month, will host music from popular and up-and-coming local musicians accompanied by a fine selection of wine and local craft beers.
Barron, a National Endowment for the Arts and American Jazz Hall of Fame pianist, opens the building on October 16 with an already sold-out performance. Cuban pianist Harold Lopéz-Nussa, whose work reflects the range and richness of Cuban music and its embrace of jazz improvisation and interaction, is up next on October 30.

“Ravenscroft is going to be a draw,” Wilson says. “There is a lot of interest and people are going to want to see this incredible new facility. It is only fitting that we should open this incredible new building with one of world’s greatest jazz artists—Kenny Barron.”
