AMAZON CELEBRATES ARIZONA’S BIRTHDAY WITH STEM DONATIONS

OF LAPTOPS, SMART WATCHES, VIRTUAL REALITY GOGGLES AND CAMERAS TO MARICOPA COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

aricopa County School Superintendent Steve Watson and staff from Maricopa County Education Services Agency (MCESA) were joined by local high school students for a birthday party celebrating Arizona’s statehood with a special gift from Amazon – thousands of dollars worth of electronics donated to STEM-related programs throughout the county’s public schools. Among the donated items were: • More than 100 high-end laptops, computers, smart watches and tablets • More than 70 virtual reality glasses • Dozens of cameras, camcorders, music players and microphones • Hundreds of remote control toys and drones

• More than 200 sets of speakers • More than 500 pairs of headphones

students with tools and resources for inspiration and hands-on learning.”

CAVE CREEK TEACHERS ACHIEVE NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFICATION

ave Creek Unified School District is proud to announce our newest National Board Certified Teachers! National Board Certification is a voluntary advanced teaching credential that complements a state’s teacher license. It is valid for five years, after which NBCTs can seek certification renewal. Only three percent of teachers in the United States are National Board Certified. In Cave Creek, our percentage is 8 percent, double the national percentage. • Mrs. Dee Pipitone, Special Education Teacher at Lone Mountain Elementary School, achieved National Board Certification in the area of Exceptional Needs Specialist. • Mrs. Corrie Klinefelter, School Counselor at Cactus Shadows High School achieved National Board Certification in the area of

Currently, CCUSD has three more National Board Candidates working toward their certification with several more ready to investigate the process through our Pre-Candidacy course. We could not be prouder of the hard work and commitment of our new NBCTs, as well as all of our 20 NBCTs. Needless to say, Cave Creek Unified teachers put students first, and are committed to excellence in their classrooms. Dr. Debbi Burdick, Superintendent of CCUSD, has been a long standing advocate of National Board Certification, and is very proud of the teachers in CCUSD!
