D
esert Foothills Youth Theater’s Summer Camps have been serving the North Phoenix and North Scottsdale area for over 7 years. We offer a wide variety of classes, camps, workshops, and intensives for theater kids: performers and techies alike! Our mission is one of inclusion. Desert Foothills Theater knows every actor counts and emphasizes process with performance. Our annual summer claim to fame is our Full-Musical Production camp the last two weeks of every June. This super-fun-super-packed-supercamp offers ‘stations’ where each kid gets a chance to learn and create within every part of theater. Every kid gets a role in the play as well as rotating through building the set, creating costumes, and constructing props. Campers ages 8 – 14 act, sing, dance, and learn through experience in this hands-on camp. The production becomes a team effort where campers learn so much more than just theater. This year, we are performing the whodunit-fairytale-super-comedy-mystery “Once Upon A Crime” held at The Cactus Shadows Fine Arts Center Monday – Friday June 18 – 29. If two weeks is too much or lands right in the middle of your vacation, we host one-week musical revue camps. The Musical Revue camps allow your young singer/ dancer to move, move, move! Over the duration of the week, young performers work on a cabaret style performance through a chosen theme. On Friday, they share their work with friends and family. For Summer 2018, we are offering three oneweek long camps in July. Themes to choose from this year are Rockin’50s Cabaret (July 9 – 13), On Broadway (July 16 – 20), or Dance the Night Away (July 23 – 27). These camps for 8 – 14 year old students are fun and engaging. Sign up for one or all three!
Camps provide a camp for the cutest people to perform their little hearts out! This is a two-week, half-day camp for ages 5 – 7. These young performers jump for joy when we take their favorite stories and bring them to the stage. They make friends, learn basics of theater, and shine like stars! Creative Kids camp takes place Monday – Friday from 9am – 12pm. They get a chance to share and shine in a mini performance for family and friends which is sure to set the CUTE-O- METER off the charts! Register for Creative Kids: Monsters Are Friends Too! (June 5 – 19) If your ‘little’ needs a full day camp, the Creative Kids: Un-BEELievable: A Bug Story Theater and Art Camp is for you. This camp will explore the lives of bugs through pop music, theater activities, arts, crafts, and more. The morning time (9am – 12pm) is dedicated to theater while the afternoon (12pm – 3pm) is dedicated to art. Choose the morning, afternoon or both. Whether your camper is 5 or 14 there’s so much to choose from at Desert Foothills Theater. We are located in the Holland Community Center at 34250 N 60th St in North Scottsdale. Registration for all of our camps opens March 15. There will be early bird discounts for specified camps through April 15th.
