CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON DVUSD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL #31 DEER VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BROKE GROUND ON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL #31 IN THE UNION PARK ON OCTOBER 3.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place at the school site located north of Happy Valley at 21st Ave. This new Union Park housing

development will have 1,100 single family homes and 1,100 multi-family units. As a result, a new school is much needed in this neighborhood to alleviate potential overcrowding at Norterra Canyon and Sonoran Foothills schools.

“This is an exciting time for our District. In Deer Valley, 95 percent of schools are rated A or B by ADE, and 41 percent of our schools are A+ Schools of Excellence. I predict that this new school will easily join our A+ Schools as soon as it is eligible in four years,” said Superintendent Dr. Curtis Finch. The new school, temporarily named Elementary School #31, will open in August 2020 and serve K-7 students in its first year. The school will grow to serve K-8 students in its second year. In the coming months, DVUSD will hire a principal, and that person

will coordinate the selection process to determine a name, colors, and mascot. This school will be 83,500 square feet and is anticipating serving 917 students. The exact school boundaries will be drawn and confirmed in the coming months. “I want to thank our Governing Board and Deputy Superintendent Jim Migliorino for their work ensuring we have a school for this growing neighborhood, and we will be ready for all of the children! Most importantly, I want to thank our taxpayers for supporting us by passing the 2013 Bond that is funding this new school, as well as projects throughout the District,” said Superintendent Finch.
