HELP US BEAT DIABETES NOVEMBER IS NATIONAL DIABETES AWARENESS MONTH AND TRUHIT FITNESS NORTH PHOENIX IS HOSTING A CLASS ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 17 AT 9 A.M. TO RAISE AWARENESS AND FUNDS FOR JUVENILE DIABETES RESEARCH FOUNDATION (JDRF). Approximately 30 million Americans have diabetes and of that 30 million, 1.25 have Type 1 diabetes. TruHIT is asking for a minimum donation of $10 to attend the class. The money raised will benefit JDRF, which is a nonprofit organization committed to finding better treatments, preventions, and ultimately a cure for Type 1 diabetes and its complications through critical research.
The gym is passionate about the cause because one of their trainers, Lindsay Seltzer, was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes five years ago. Lindsay started working out with a friend at TruHIT six years ago and loved the concept so much that she became a certified trainer and joined their staff. She currently trains 15-20 classes per week.
“The community is very supportive and encouraging,” said Seltzer. “After my diagnosis, I noticed the HIIT style work outs and proper nutrition were the keys to helping me keep my numbers in check. TruHit helps hold me accountable.”
Lindsay had a baby 18 months ago and managed to keep her diabetes under control through her pregnancy and afterwards. She credits her consistent work-out routine, eating healthy, and the TruHIT community to keep her on track.
Lindsay says, “In the beginning, it was really hard to manage and figure out my life with diabetes. But then I switched my mindset and realized I need to use my voice to help others dealing with the same thing. I started a blog and Instagram account called @ type1bygrace to start the conversations and answer questions.”
“Our fitness community has been touched by this disease in several ways,” says Mike Lauricella, owner, TruHIT North Phoenix. “The fundraiser is our way of giving back and supporting JDRF’s mission. We want our staff and members to know they aren’t fighting this alone. We’re here to support them along their journey.”

Diabetes Signs (according to JDRF):
• Frequent urination • Increased thirst • Dry mouth • Itchy or dry skin • Increased appetite • Unexplained weight loss • Yeast infections • Nausea • Fatigue
TruHIT Fitness was founded in 2014 by Ken and Shelley Fearer and has grown to seven Arizona locations and one in Boise, Idaho. The fitness club offers monthly memberships that include unlimited fitness classes, nutrition coaching, meal planning recommendations, and childcare. The first class is free at any location.
TruHIT North Phoenix is located at 20830 N. 25th Place, Ste. 108 in Phoenix. To register for the 3rd Annual “Dia-beat This” fundraiser work out on November 17, please call 480393-0739. Please plan to arrive a few minutes early and wear blue to show your support for people living with Diabetes.
