Welcome Publisher's

Welcome to Issue 14, our 1st issue for 2025.

Why have we taken so long to release another issue? It’s tempting to say, <Because good things take time.= However, that would be straight up obfuscation!

We’ve been looking at all that we do to ensure that we are not just pumping out issue but actually doing something that is making an impact rather than just inspiring people.

We’ve also been building collaborations with like minded people and organizations who share the same values, so that we can elevate this from a passionate hobby to a sustainable, impactful business, while climbing off the pages and into a venue near you. Watch this space.

Matthew, Jonathan & Nicholas are quiety and deliberately changing the way we shop using their tech enabled platform, Cashblack. And you get paid for using their platform to shop. What’s not to like?

With the Cashblack team’s help we’re Spotlighting 10 Products to Buy & 10 Plates to Eat from their platform.

We’re joining David C Hall’s Potential Unlocked Awards and Mahari Hay’s & Mexy Thomas’s Community, Corporate & Culture Awards to congratulate some award winners in Spotlighting 10 People.

Christina Belloge from Melanin Travels Magic is back Spotlighting 10 Places to Visit in Africa & The Caribbean.

Oh yeah, we’ve also been going to some events and meeting and greeting some great people in our community!

...People like the Addai brothers and PR Specialist, Francesca Stainer, featured in this issue.

If that wasn’t enough, we have great contributions from Vee Roberts, Ejike Ndaji, Bawo Ikpobe and, of course, regulars Nicola Millington and the one and only Eric Collins.

Please do enjoy this issue!

Meet |

How did you first get involved in your field?

I’ve always been a mix of creative, analytical and data driven. At school I felt torn between careers that were seen as either one or the other. I thought being a journalist would suit my creative side, as I loved writing and read English Literature at University. I managed to secure internships at a newspaper and quickly started interacting with PR’s, which is where I saw how both sides of my brain could come into play, and I’ve been on this journey for 10 years now.

3

What inspires you to pursue your work?

I’ve been particularly inspired working on the everywoman awards programmes that shine a spotlight on briliant women doing incredible things in typically male-dominated industries, such as tech, transport and logistics and entrepreneurship. Working on sharing the stories of the winners and finalists across these awards and seeing their profiles, confidence and recognition grow through the press coverage is magical and really rewarding.

4

What were some pivotal moments in your career that shaped your path?

I’ve worked in Communications across a variety of different industries from finance, high street retailers to business book publishers, but I’d always been drawn to purpose-driven work and weaved it into my roles wherever I could, particularly around DE&I. Being part of everywoman and AllBright’s joint mission to positively impact 20 million women by 2030 has been a pivotal moment for me, knowing that my small role in the world could have a real impact.

How would you describe your leadership style?

I’ve always made sure to create a space where transparency and open communication are the default setting within a team. I’ve experienced and witnessed my fair share of good and bad managers throughout my career, and one of the common threads was communication. But most importantly, communication both ways. Ensuring your team have the autonomy and feel comfortable enough to take on their own projects, come up with new ideas, voice concerns and give feedback is key in creating a dynamic and innovative team.

5

What is your philosophy on collaboration and teamwork?

Collaboration and teamwork are most effective when it’s built on a foundation of mutual respect, trust, and open communication where everyone ’ s unique strengths are recognized and valued. Teamwork isn’t just getting the job done, it’s achieving something greater than we could individually. The best ideas come from diverse perspectives, so it’s essential to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts without fear of judgment. Whether it’s giving constructive feedback, offering help, or simply checking in with each other Everyone should feel that they have a voice and that their contributions matter

6

What are the most pressing issues or trends in your industry that you ' re focusing on?

When you work in DE&I, there are always many issues to fix. But one that springs to mind is the funding gap for women entrepreneurs These women are wealth and job creators, and the investment and finance communities must double down on their efforts to understand how they can better serve these ambitious, unstoppable women.

I hope to continue to magnify these issues and the voices of those founders through my work.

How do you envision the future of your field, and what role do you want to play in shaping it?

PR has changed a lot since I started. It’s no longer just about securing a page in a mainstream paper or glossy. Technology has changed how we consume information –engaging with influencers, podcasts, live streams, digital publications etc. What was once the epitome of great PR, now needs an incredibly diversified approach across all mediums to ensure you are reaching the right people. But this digitalisation also means PR’s can be incredibly data-driven and strategic in their approaches. I hope to continue to make a difference to as many women as possible by continuing to adapt.

Building High-Performing Teams with the 3 C's

The legal industry, and indeed many professional services, has long grappled with a problematic trend; the elevation of high-performing individuals into leadership roles based solely on financial metrics, with little to no consideration for their actual leadership capabilities.

This "accidental manager" phenomenon has left a trail of dysfunctional teams and frustrated employees, highlighting a critical gap in leadership development.

Thankfully, a shift is underway, evidenced by the burgeoning leadership training, coaching, and mentoring industries, signaling a growing commitment to preparing future leaders for the complexities of their roles.

Driven by a passion for people and a desire to be a force for good, I personally sought out leadership opportunities. Having witnessed both inspiring and less-than-ideal leadership styles in the corporate world, I immersed myself in leadership literature and podcasts, preparing for my own shot at guiding teams.

This preparation proved invaluable, leading to roles as Head of Department for over 40 lawyers and support staff, office head of 15, and various Trustee/Director and CEO positions within charities.

These experiences underscored the importance of providing platforms for individuals to reach their full potential. Experienced leaders often cite a multitude of characteristics essential for high-performing teams, including communication, trust, and accountability.

However, my own philosophy boils down to what I call the "3 C's"; Collaboration, Cooperation, and Community.

These are not a pop group, but rather the fundamental ingredients for fostering a culture of psychological safety, enabling teams to consistently achieve their objectives.

This "accidental manager" phenomenon has left a trail of dysfunctional teams and frustrated employees...

1. Collaboration

This involves working collectively towards shared goals, ensuring everyone is aligned and contributing to a common vision.

It's about teamwork in its purest form, where the success of the group takes precedence.

2. Cooperation

While collaboration focuses on shared goals, cooperation emphasizes individual contributions that support the overall team objective.

It acknowledges that each member has unique skills and responsibilities, all of which are vital to the team's success.

3. Community

This refers to a group united by common interests and values.

It builds a sense of belonging and shared identity, fostering a supportive environment where individuals feel valued and respected.

For leaders who have already integrated these 3 C's into their team's core values, congratulations!

You've created a foundation for success.

For those still striving to cultivate these values, persevere.

The path may be challenging, but the rewards—a thriving, highperforming team—are immeasurable.

Building a strong community, ensuring collaboration and cooperation, is a key step towards avoiding the pitfalls of accidental management and creating a workplace where everyone can thrive.

...fundamental ingredients for fostering a culture of psychological safety, enabling teams to consistently achieve their objectives.

& Challenges in a Transformative Era

he world has undeniably entered a transformative phase of the AI revolution, propelled by widespread public acceptance and the relentless disruption of every sector.

The landscape is marked by exponential growth and profound shifts, highlighting both the immense potential and the critical challenges that lie ahead.

Exponential Growth: Adoption & Investment

The adoption of generative AI has surged at an unprecedented rate.

Whether you have a product or service, if you want people to buy into your idea and spend money with you it9s important to consider some of these ideas to attract sales from organic marketing activities.

1. Have a 8stand out brand9 presence

Aside from relying on social media, how do you promote your brand and attract sales online and offline?

Your brand is more than a logo and you need a memorable brand that has a strong visual identity across your marketing activity.

Your brand should be easily remembered and stand out through use of language, your tone of voice, your brand colours, fonts, assets and brand personality amongst other things.

2. Work with sales goals and have a simple plan

A sales goal helps you to focus and work with intention.

Write down a realistic and measureable goal:

<I want to sell xxx (products) before xxxx (date)= and then get clear on what marketing tactics you want to use.

As an example, if you use social media, brochures and email typically, then you9d need to coordinate these activities into a marketing campaign. How, when and where will you use these marketing tactics to achieve your sales goals?

3. Develop a compelling offer

How you communicate your offer and your channels of communications can affect your sales results.

To attract clients and make sales you need to understand their needs, emotions and buying behaviour.

How much do you know about your 8ideal customers9? Why would they buy and when?

Perceived value is based on your product or service features and costs. Assuming your price is right, you must convey the benefits clearly. Your offer has to position your product or service as 8worth the money9.

How well do you do this?

Using keywords, search terms or known phrases in your offer, via written and audio content is definitely recommended.

And let9s not forget the importance of including the offer 8call to action9.

I9ve seen many cases where details of how to pay, order or make an enquiry are left off of marketing materials. This can cost a sale!

Remember to include this information as well as utilising a follow up process for people still thinking about it, or with items in the cart.

4. Promote the Benefits consistently

To help increase sales, use visuals, 8how to9 videos, instruction manuals and customer reviews to educate your community.

Assuming you have a strong offer, make sure you9re promoting the benefits with branded materials consistently both online and offline.

What is the benefit to the buyer?

Explain this in plain language, jargon free! It9s always good to have evidence of what paying customers have said about your brand, I have over 722 reviews for my business to date!

5. Make it Easy to Buy

Nobody wants to fill in a form or 8DM9 to obtain a link to make a payment, or worse - fill in a form or wait 3 days to get your price list!

Some of us make the buying process complex, but if you want to make sales, consider the sales process from your client or customers point of view.

People buy for different reasons and at different times, to meet different needs. Do your research on 8why9 people buy and then identify and maximise any opportunities to increase sales by cross selling and upselling. Look at your back end systems and automation too, to adopt systems that will help you work more efficiently.

6. Build Trust, Credibility & Certainty

There are different stages of a sales process. Some people take longer to make a decision to buy compared to others. By showing and telling, over time you can build brand trust and people may go from being interested to making a purchase.

If they are your ideal customer, make time to connect and learn more about them. People are more likely to buy when they are convinced they need what you’re offering. Be genuine, authentic, transparent and honest.

Engage in two way conversations with personalised human interaction whenever possible. Your product or service will not be for everyone and

also people may not buy straight away but never take that personally!

Also, remember to follow up and have a client relationship management system so you can document who you spoke to, what they said and when.

7. Keep a track of what’s working

If your sales offer is not selling, it’s your job to figure out why.

Review your sales and marketing and listen to what people are asking you for. Ask probing questions to establish what people need.

Monitoring is key and it is also important to have an inventory set up or a way to track sales. Identify best sellers, what is not selling and also tactics and approaches that are yielding best results.

Do more of what is working and less of what is not to refine your sales and marketing process.
