Home Made Veggie Burgers These are a great alternative to beef burgers and combine carrots, summer squash and courgette with oats, cheese and egg to make a tasty teatime treat.

Serves 8.

METHOD: * One dessertspoon olive oil * One small onion, grated * Two cloves crushed garlic * Two carrots, grated * One small summer squash, grated * One small courgette, grated * 100g porridge oats * 30g grated Cheddar cheese * One egg, beaten * One tablespoon soy sauce * 200g plain flour METHOD: 1. Heat the olive oil in a frying pan over low heat, and cook the onion and garlic for about five minutes, until tender.

2. Mix in carrots, squash and courgette and stir for two minutes.

3. Remove pan from heat, and mix in oats, cheese and egg.

4. Stir in soy sauce, transfer the mixture to a bowl, and refrigerate one hour.

5. Place flour on large plate. Shape vegetable mixture into eight round patties.

6. Drop each patty into the flour, coating both sides.

7. Pan fry, grill or barbecue.

Connecting Brereton - Parish Council Requests Views At the June meeting, a draft survey was presented for completion by all householders in the Parish to assess views on broadband, transport, footpaths and community facilities. Discussion took place on how to distribute and collect the survey effectively, in order to inform priorities for future investment by the parish council.

The working group for the Brereton Infrastructure Development Plan (Connecting Brereton) has been set up to look at putting together a list of requirements for improved infrastructure using potential community infrastructure levy (CIL) which is now payable by house-builders on completion of new developments from 1 March 2019. A survey of residents would be conducted to gain their input.

Of the five planning applications considered at the meeting, it was felt that three should be supported, one required no comment and one will be objected to by Brereton Parish Council. It was noted that the Cheshire East Strategic Planning meeting for the additions to the Bluebell Green development has been postponed until 24 July in Crewe.

Highways safety issues included the problems of lack of visibility due to increased foliage, flooded areas with blocked drains. Proposed areas for data recording and Speed indicators, including Mill Lane, Back Lane, the A50 and the A54, were discussed. Anomalies of settlement signage were also raised. The ongoing and increasing volume of traffic on Mill Lane was a source of concern.

A Facebook page for Brereton Parish Council is now live and is being used for information sharing to advise residents of traffic problems, adverse weather and local issues. Please like and share our page.

With a new team in post at Cheshire East, one resident asked ward councillor John Wray to put a request for the re-opening of the Arclid Recycling Centre back on the agenda. He cited problems with queueing at the Congleton Centre and the resulting traffic problems.

The next meeting of Brereton Parish Council will be held at 7.30pm, on Monday 22 July at Brereton Primary School. All are welcome to attend. The agenda, which includes a 15 minute Public Forum, will be displayed on the notice boards and the website at www.breretonparishcouncil.org.uk

This can be used in the daytime for storing sunglasses and a purse and dress it up for an evening, the bag I have created can be dressed both sides as I have used a vintage fastening to close it. Step By Step Instructions‌

You will need

Fabric selection for the front & back, fabric scissors, A3 paper, ruler, pencil, pins, cotton & needle, press stud or button to secure fasten the bag. (pic 1)

1. Using the A3 paper fold the paper into 3 sections 12cm/15cm/15cm so that when it is folded it will have a flap for fastening. (pic 2) 2. Cut out 2 pieces of fabric using the paper template, also cut out a 15cm piece of fabric same width as the bag for the bow, and a small piece of fabric 9cm width by 12cm long, I also when it was cut out I ironed the crease marks into the fabric so I knew how the bag was going to look. Â (pic 3) 3. Make up the bow by hemming round the top and bottom edge (1cm seam allowance) but leaving the sides, also, create the centre of the bow sewing all around and then attaching over the bow to secure it in place (pic 4) 4.Turn the fabric the wrong way with the bow in position on the bag so it can all be sewn together, leaving a small hole so the bag can be turned back the right way.

5. I gave the bag a quick press and made sure all the corners were good, I then positioned the bag and hand sewed the sides up and attached a vintage clasp to the back of the bag.

New cycle and pedestrian link in Northwich

Cheshire West and Chester Council has begun work on a new cycle and pedestrian link between Winnington and Northwich town centre.

The council has worked closely with Northwich Town Council to agree plans and implementation of the new facility which runs between Castle Street and Winnington Avenue via Verdin Park.

The scheme has been funded as part of new development taking place in Winnington.

The works involve path widening through Verdin Park, the installation of wheel ramps over the old railway footbridge and the installation of a new pedestrian crossing on Moss Road.

Other improvements will be undertaken to the existing footpath along this route, and the project has been programmed in phases in order to minimise disruption.

Works have already started on Birdcage Walk and will then continue through the park - including the installation of the Moss Road pedestrian crossing.

The council’s deputy leader and portfolio holder for environment, highways and strategic transport, Cllr Karen Shore said: “The new cycleway will help promote cycling and walking between Northwich and Winnington through Verdin Park.

“The route will improve accessibility for residents and will be a great leisure facility.”

The new route supports the council’s Active Travel initiatives for health and wellbeing, and will link the future regeneration of Verdin Park.

Andrea’s AMMF Army – Fundraising update…

My name is Andrea and I run these little directories that you are reading, as many of you know I was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer in October 2015 called Cholangiocarcinoma (cancer of the bile duct). This cancer has one of the worst survival rates of all cancers. The AMMF is the UK’s only Cholangiocarcinoma Cancer Charity, dedicated to tackling this devastating cancer on all fronts: providing information and support, campaigning to raise awareness, and encouraging and supporting research.

Over the past 3 years with the help of my family and friends, I have organized lots of fundraising events, from Charity Ladies Nights, climbing The Three Peaks in the middle of winter, Firewalking, a Mad Hatter Cycle Tea Party, letters to Santa and bag packing at Morrisons in Middlewich. Leading up to some bigger challenges – climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with my then 14 year old son in February 2018 and more recently, I have just returned (February 19) from my latest fundraising mission, which was cycling over 450km from Vietnam – Cambodia, with my 17-year-old daughter and 16 other fantastic friends, dubbed as Andreas AMMF Army!

The Next Big Challenge – Everest Base Camp February 2020!

We will embark on our next big fundraising mission next February to climb to Everest Base Camp, this will be a big challenge to us all, as February is one of the colder months to do this. I’m very lucky to have my 16-year-old son Sam, my husband Chris and my sister Mandy Morgan joining me this time, along with 11 other loyal friends (Michelle Johnson, Andrew Suter, Anne Holdcroft, Marie Williams, Sharon Newton, Lisa Taylor, Dylan Hughes, David Wiley, Oly Rhodes, Erica Cordock & Neil Pollock). Many of these amazing friends have already been part of my previous trips, Michelle Johnson, who has joined me on every trip so far! We all self- fund our places on these trips, so all the money we raise along the way goes directly to the AMMF charity.

Since November 2016 when I started my fundraising campaign for this cancer charity, we have now raised over £50,000! This has only been possible with the continued support from my family, friends and the generosity of the many local businesses that have regularly helped and supported many of my fundraising events. Every penny raised has gone directly to the charity and helps fund valuable research into ways Filming for the BBC of trying to identify this deadly cancer earlier, and hopefully will help save more lives going forward!
