2018-2019 ANNUAL REPORT
Dean’s Remarks Welcome to the 2018-19 Dean’s Circle Annual Report!
not enjoy these remarkable experiences. With your assistance, Edwards students are positioned for ongoing achievements.
Colleagues, supporters, friends… thank you! Your generosity is extraordinary and remarkable. Thank you for enabling student success, answering the call to action, and helping to advance the mission of the Edwards School of Business.
The past has provided a series of successes, but where are we heading in the future? Our Edwards strategic plan is sharpening our focus on enhancing the student experience and pursuing program excellence. These two core components of our business school are clearly connected to Dean’s Circle support. Your generosity will offer the very best learning facilities and technology platforms for students. Moreover, you will enhance teaching and learning spaces through renovated classrooms and collaborative meeting rooms.
Your contributions of time, talent and philanthropy to the Dean’s Circle provide a compelling platform for our school to recruit the best and brightest of student talent. Your gifts reward academic success. Your donations spur educational outcomes. We began this endeavor over five years ago. Our progress has surpassed my expectations, and this is entirely due to your exceptional efforts. Over 100 of you now fill the ranks of the Edwards Dean’s Circle. Some of you joined at the program’s inception. Others participated at the invitation of a colleague. Regardless of when you came on board, your support continues to provide outstanding opportunities for our students and academic programs. Did you know that Dean’s Circle funds annually provide 75 student awards and prizes? Think of the impact! Students are receiving more scholarships and important support for experiential opportunities such as the JDC West business case competitions or international study tour classes… all directly linked to your generosity! Absent this support, students would

“I have always admired how the Edwards School of Business encourages experiential learning and provides many opportunities for students to apply their business knowledge. When I was in grade 12, I participated in the High School Business Case Competition and received the Edwards Dean’s Circle High School Business Competition Prize, a renewable scholarship of up to 3 years, worth $1,000. Over the past two and a half years in university, I have received approximately $6,000 in scholarships from the Dean’s Circle. These awards have given me the chance to get involved at university and not have to worry about working a job to help pay for tuition, rent, and food. It is donors like you who have provided these awards that have changed lives like mine. This past year I was on the JDC West Business Technology Team, which placed first in our category among 11 other Western Canadian Business Schools. Through my experience in JDC West, I learned self-confidence, discipline, commitment, work ethic, and I’ve experienced personal growth. To all of you, I want to extend a thank you for your generosity and for caring for students who want to do much more than just get a bachelor’s degree in commerce in their four years. I feel very fortunate to learn and grow with the support of the Edwards School of Business. I can’t wait for the day that I will be in your chair giving back to the university that helped shape me into the business professional I am growing into.” Jordan Glasman – 3rd year, Accounting Major
